The Flea Trap / Will Britain exit the EU?
May 08, 2016, 10:30:08 PM
...In what's been called the UK's possible 'Brexit' from the EU, its citizens are in for some major changes should this come about.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has said, it could trigger another World War:

QuoteDavid Cameron will plead for Britain to stay in the EU and help prevent the Continent being ripped apart by another conflict.

Mr Cameron will highlight the UK's role in bringing peace to Europe as he hits the referendum campaign trail.

Both the Prime Minister and his Brexit -backing Tory rival Boris Johnson make speeches this morning in the countdown to the June 23 vote.

Mr Cameron will refer to Britain's role in "pivotal moments in European history]

What do you think? Will Britain choose to stay, or leave the EU?

Will/has this led to major shutdowns of plants/working operations there?

And if so, how long will they be down?

I've read somewhere that the oil patch may be at least 5% of Canada's economy.

And if all the people living/working there are servicing this area, must be a huge loss in downtown.

Anyways, since I don't live there, perhaps those who live closer to it can fill us in on the economic impact of this fire.

The Flea Trap / What is Carbon Tax & Cap 'n Trade?
April 30, 2016, 01:12:28 PM
...I confess...I know nothing about them.

Thus, I haven't made up my mind to support or be against them.

I'm firmly undecided.

Why did the government introduce them?

What do they pay for?

Who benefits from.them?

Who doesn't?

Which countries have introduced them, and what are their results?

What is the difference between a carbon tax & cap 'n trade?

I know many of you don't like them, but at least try to be impartial explaining or defining them.

...Perhaps seoulbro can weigh in?

...since this appears to be the only sub-forum some of the BF members can post in, maybe they could weigh in too - ie - SCOUSE & others.

I kinda see the end of WWII as also the true closing of the 19th Century and the TRUE beginning of the 20th - which in many respects, we are still living the latter half of.

'Seems WWII was a culmination of at least a century full of grudges in Europe, driven by centuries old values of upholding national and military honor. It would also be the last time in which the major European powers would clash on the battlefield. But the destruction of 'Old Europe', brought with it the rise of truly 20th century values which seem to have to fruition in the 1960s. ie - pop culture, racial integration and multiculturalism. Whether the world is any better off for them is a matter of debate. Certainly, there is a fair share of holdouts who think otherwise, resist and seem to long for the old order in which the Colonial Powers ruled.

Anyways, here's an episode from World at War which is worth watching - because it describes how the world changed dramatically and a New political and cultural order emerged practically overnight:

....he lowered my monthly phone bill.

He may have not been the most colorful guy and some things I strongly disagreed with him on, but thanks to his efforts to create some competition in the cellphone industry, my monthly bill is $32 a month...$32.48 after taxes to be exact. This includes unlimited calling, messaging and data/internet access. And its for life.

This compares with the big 3 who charge 3 times as much.

Many have criticized Harper, that he did not lower rates as he claimed, but I'm living testament that he did:

The Flea Trap / 'Lady-Driven' Stuff
April 12, 2016, 10:43:10 PM
...there's this store I go into in Vancouver periodically.

It's run by women and it sells used stuff previously owned and denoted to them mostly be women.

They sell all sorts of stuff, from kitchen ware, old records, cd's magazines, books, clothing, software.

What I've noticed is a lot of this used stuff looks barely used or is in almost top condition.

Some of it is antique.

So whenever I see something good, I snatch and buy it.

I bought an antique print the other day, decided to make frame it.

Other than yellowing, there were no marks, creases or bends in it, and it is almost 100 years old.

I bought this great looking coffee table book. Again, almost brand new. Heck it was so unscathed that it could be re-sold as brand new.

A car I bought secondhand from a woman nearly 20 years ago is still in relatively great shape.

I attribute any major damage which it incurred to me, not her.

In fact, I credit its longevity to her good upkeep prior to me owning it.

Actually, I neglected the car in the past few years, and now I'm paying quite a bit to get it restored and back into working condition. If I only had the discipline to keep it in the shape she did. Oh well.

Funny thin' you kin almost always tell whether something was owned by a guy...

or a woman.

The stuff pre-owned by women often barely has a scratch or dent on it.

No rips, tears in the books. dents, marks or bends in the objects.  It's like they were barely used.

On the other hand, stuff previously owned by a guy often is in rough shape.

It's all torn up, bent, is badly need of repair. Or else, there's usually some defect, stain or something wrong with it.

I bought some pants the other day from a senior citizen who was hawking goods on a street corner.

Nice item, but big stain on the pants. Definitely, this item was not 'lady-driven'.

Maybe about the only guys who might pass you on something in good shape are gay guys.

Otherwise, a lotta stuff previously owned by men is trashed by the time you git it.

Incidentally this includes me.
