National Association of Broadcasters Strips Robert De Niro of Award After Trump Rant



The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) decided to rescind an award that was to be given to actor Robert De Niro after he went on a tirade about former President Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, De Niro appeared at a press conference held by the Biden campaign outside of the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse where Trump's business records trial took place.

During the press conference, De Niro angrily ranted that the United States government would "perish from the earth" if Trump was reelected. De Niro also yelled at Trump supporters protesting the press conference, and labeled supporters of the former president as being "clowns" and "gangsters.

In light of De Niro's comments, the NAB noted that "Mr. De Niro's recent high-profile activities will create a distraction from the philanthropic work" the organization wanted to highlight.

It's high time the companies most responsible for climate change pay for the damage it causes, says environmental advocate Ben Edgerly Walsh.

Walsh is the climate and energy program director with the Vermont Public Interest Research Group. The non-profit environmental and consumer advocacy group has been pushing for legislation to force fossil fuel companies to shoulder some of the costs dealing with climate change.

On Thursday, the group achieved its goal when Vermont became the first state to enact such a law.

"The reality is they are the ones responsible for the pollution that caused the climate crisis. They've made an enormous amount of money on the product that caused that pollution. And they very clearly knew what they were doing," Walsh told As It Happens host Nil Köksal.

"We think it's only fair that they pay their fair share of the costs."

Poland Sees 'Russian Cyberattack' Behind Fake Military Draft Report



The Polish government said Friday that a false story stating that Poles would be mobilised to fight in Ukraine that appeared on the state news agency was likely a Russian cyberattack.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the hacking attack as part of Russia's attempts to destabilise the European Union ahead of next month's European Parliament elections. The fake report was published Friday as NATO's foreign ministers met in the Czech Republic to discuss long-term support for Ukraine as it battles Russian forces.

"Given the probable Russian cyberattack on the Polish Press Agency and the release of disinformation on alleged mobilisation in Poland, the ABW and the digital ministry have taken swift action," security services spokesman Jacek Dobrzynski said on X, referring to the domestic security agency.

The Polish Press Agency (PAP) deleted the article a few minutes after it was published, adding that "the source of the text is not the Polish Press Agency". The article then appeared a second time before being deleted again.

The PAP said it was "investigating the circumstances around the appearance of the false story".

Jack in the Box to launch new value menu in June



Jack in the Box is the latest fast food company offering deals that will give customers more bang for their buck as inflation continues to impact their wallets.

The San Diego-based company announced that it will launch a brand-new value menu on June 3. The menu, officially known as Jack's Munchies Under $4 Menu, will be complete with a dozen items under $4, a news release said.

The caveat, however, is that the menu is exclusive to Jack in the Box rewards members.
