The U.S. Department of Homeland Security declared Wednesday that it would offer work authorization and temporary legal status to nearly half a million Venezuelan migrants already in the country.
Under the declaration, approximately 472,000 Venezuelans who arrived in the U.S. before July 31, 2023, will be eligible for Temporary Protected Status for 18 months.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared that the U.S. should not accept Palestinian refugees, but did offer a solution to the humanitarian crisis.
"Also I will say, and I don't know what Biden's going to do, but we cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees," the GOP presidential candidate said during a campaign stop in Iowa on Saturday. "I am not going to do that."
"If you look at how they behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic. None of them believe in Israel's right to exist," DeSantis continued.
"None of the Arab States are willing to take any of them," he said. "The Arab States should be taking them if you have refugees. You don't fly people and import them into the United States of America. So we're going to be very strong on that."
The Axios news outlet tried to argue against people criticizing the Biden administration for its "open border" policies and faced a massive backlash of mockery and ridicule online.

Critics lambasted Axios on social media for trying to downplay the migrant crisis.

"This is so bad. You can tell whoever wrote this hasn't spent much time at the border or hasn't bothered talking to the agents tasked with patrolling it. Ask the 1.6 million + known gotaways how difficult it was to get in w/ chunks of the border unpatrolled while agents process," responded Bill Melugin, a Fox News reporter.
"This isn't just media spin. It's an outright lie. Illegal aliens are crossing the border at unprecedented rates. Cartels are trafficking drugs and humans daily — many of these drugs reaching SD. Joe Biden is not enforcing the law. He's leaving the border wide open," replied South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R).
"Amazing you're trying to gaslight people who can actually see people coming across the border without impunity and unimpeded. You're just the propaganda arm of the DNC," read another critical tweet.
The migrant crisis has worsened to the point that Democrats are turning on each other. In New York, the Democratic governor is in a public feud with the Democratic mayor of New York City over what to do with migrants who have been bused to the city from border states.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) proved Wednesday that Biden administration officials are unable to answer "really basic" questions about the border crisis.
At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing focused on unaccompanied migrant children, Kennedy quizzed senior government officials on elementary details about the ongoing crisis.
First, Kennedy asked Assistant Director of Homeland Security Investigations Cardell Morant how many "non-American citizens have come into our country illegally or on the basis of a claim of asylum" under President Joe Biden's watch. In response, Morant admitted that he does not know the number despite being a "senior member of Homeland Security."
Kennedy then asked the other three hearing witnesses — Joseph Salazar, director of Central American Affairs at the State Department; Robin Marcos, director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement; and Seema Nanda, solicitor of labor at the Labor Department — if they knew the answer.
But none of them knew the number.
"None of you know the number? Try 8 million. Now of that 8 million, how many were children, Mr. Morant?" Kennedy followed up.
"I don't have that number," Morant admitted again.
"You don't know? Does anybody know? None of you know? Isn't that special. Let's assume half, OK? Eight million is four Nebraskas, right? Four new states. Let's assume, half of them are children. How many of those 8 million people are still here? Do any of you know?" Kennedy asked the panel.
But the panel was again silent. Kennedy then peppered the witnesses with a rapid-fire round of question.
"How many of those 8 million are claiming asylum? You don't know? How many of them claim asylum and don't show up for their hearing? Nobody knows? How many of them claim asylum, don't show up for their hearing and President Biden has deported them? You don't know?" the senator questioned. "How many of them have claimed asylum, shown up for their asylum hearing and been denied asylum and been deported? You don't know. How many of them were from Mexico? You don't know."

A large group of nicely dressed Chinese migrants with impeccable luggage were photographed attempting to illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border into California.

As blue cities like New York City and Chicago suffer under the strain of the invasion, Republicans will never have a better chance to force a funding fight and real changes with the Biden administration.
While Border Patrol agents are learning the finer points of preferred pronouns, criminal gang members are crossing the southern border unmolested. And if border agents happen to confront them, they're often cited and released.

Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke, a radical leftist congresswoman running for re-election this year in New York's 9th District, made clear in an undated video that went viral this week that this avoidable crisis is not all for naught. Rather, she regards it as a good thing for the right people.
"I'm from Brooklyn, New York. We have a diaspora that can absorb a significant number of these migrants," said Clarke, who has served on the House Committee on Homeland Security. "When I hear colleagues talk about, you know, the doors of the inn being closed — ah, no room at the inn — I'm saying I need more people in my district just for redistricting purposes."
Democrats have been fighting for years to redraw New York's congressional map to ensure Republicans no longer have a chance in two to six swing districts from Long Island to Syracuse. The New York Times noted that the New York Court of Appeals' (the state's highest court) controversial ruling last month may ultimately flip the House in Democrats' favor. More bodies will help in that regard.

National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd told the New York Post on Wednesday that the Biden administration is artificially reducing the number of migrant encounters at the southern border.
Judd explained that the administration is flying migrants into the United States "so that the border doesn't look as out of control." The union president called the plan "just a bait and switch."
