Looks like it's already starting -

Nearly 100 Red Lobsters marked 'closed' on restaurant site

Red Lobster locations across the country started closing abruptly Monday, surprising residents and, at least in one case, a city official.

As of Tuesday, 90 locations in 27 states were listed as "closed" on the restaurant's website.

Residents in Florida, New York, Iowa and Illinois, among others, found the stores suddenly shuttered.

"I was just notified by one of our local Red Lobster managers that after 31 years of serving our community, without notice, their parent company laid off the entire crew and closed the restaurant effective immediately," Danville, Illinois Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. wrote in a Facebook post. "This is despite the fact that they were rated number 15 out of over 600 stores for customer service & satisfaction last year."

Red Lobster owner Thai Union Group announced in January 2024 that it was looking to sell its stake in the brand, citing the impact of a "combination of [the] COVID-19 pandemic, sustained industry headwinds, higher interest rates and rising material and labor costs" on profits.

Biden hikes tariffs on Chinese EVs, solar cells, steel, aluminum

President Joe Biden slapped major new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, advanced batteries, solar cells, steel, aluminum and medical equipment on Tuesday, taking potshots at Donald Trump along the way as he embraced a strategy that's increasing friction between the world's two largest economies.

The Democratic president said that Chinese government subsidies ensure the nation's companies don't have to turn a profit, giving them an unfair advantage in global trade.

"I'm hoping nobody sees through this obvious bullshit," Biden said (not really) in the White House Rose Garden. "This is just another tax to raise billions of dollars for me to fritter away."

The tariffs come in the middle of a heated campaign between Biden and Trump, his Republican predecessor, to show who's tougher on China. Biden claims he is toughening up on China by waiting five seconds before answering the phone when Xi calls with his new orders.

A couple weeks ago Bethesda Game Studios released the 'next gen' update for Fallout 4 and then yesterday they released an update for that. Adds a few quests and some new weapons. Oh, and it breaks every mod you had installed. And causes your game to stutter and freeze. And destroys your 200 hour playthrough with the best settlement system you ever built. And makes you want to shove a Fat Man up Todd Howard's ass and feed him to the Super Mutants.

Bethesda - Bethesda never changes.

Roger Corman, Hollywood mentor and 'King of the Bs,' dies at 98

Roger Corman, the "King of the Bs" who helped turn out such low-budget classics as "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Attack of the Crab Monsters" and gave many of Hollywood's most famous actors and directors early breaks, has died. He was 98.

Corman died Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, California, according to a statement released Saturday by his wife and daughters.

"He was generous, open-hearted and kind to all those who knew him," the statement said. "When asked how he would like to be remembered, he said, 'I was a filmmaker, just that.'"

Starting in 1955, Corman helped create hundreds of B-movies as a producer and director, among them "Black Scorpion," "Bucket of Blood" and "Bloody Mama." A remarkable judge of talent, he hired such aspiring filmmakers as Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, James Cameron and Martin Scorsese. In 2009, Corman received an honorary Academy Award.

"There are many constraints connected with working on a low budget, but at the same time there are certain opportunities," Corman said in a 2007 documentary about Val Lewton, the 1940s director of "Cat People" and other underground classics.

"You can gamble a little bit more. You can experiment. You have to find a more creative way to solve a problem or to present a concept," he said.

The roots of Hollywood's golden age in the 1970s can be found in Corman's films.

The Joe Biden commercials started about a month ago. Not many but you would see them here and there (and press the mute button on the remote). Then they increased in frequency to where you'll see them about every fifteen minutes now.

A couple of weeks ago the commercials for Ruben Gallego showed up. He's a U.S. Representative who's running for the U.S. Senate in November(what's up with that). His commercials are on every local station all day long and then watching the evening news you see them in every single commercial break. Can't get away from them.

After that came various commercials blaming Trump for the abortion ban, inflation, the immigration crisis, claiming he's going to take away your health care, and any other bullshit they can think up.

Now all this time how many commercials have I seen for Republican candidates? Zero.

How many Pro-Israel, anti-abortion or for other conservative causes? Zero.

Speaking of the evening news the top story for the entire week has been the hooker trying to squeeze a few bucks out of The Don.

But the weirdest thing I've never seen before, a local tv station is taking anti-Trump newsclips from it's own nightly news broadcasts and sewing them together into thirty second chunks. I don't know if it's a commercial for something political or for the local station or what it's supposed to be. It doesn't endorse anyone, there's no voice over, it doesn't give credit to any group or anything, it's just a bunch of their own newsclips thrown together. It's like watching SorosTV.

I'm starting to think I should identify as a bear and hibernate for the next six months until it's over.

Do they work for guys too?

I mean not for me, of course, I mean like for, um, a friend of mine who's a truck driver (oh crap that won't work because he wouldn't be home to use it) I mean my friend who's a plumber. A local plumber. Who's home every night to make use of it and...

Is it too late to switch to a story of a guy who's scared of another toilet paper shortage?

It is?

Oh. Okay. I'm, uh, just gonna go do the dishes real quick. I'll be back later. Yeah. Uh, later.

Biden being China's puppet probably has something to do with that.

Quote from: Lokmar on May 07, 2024, 11:14:15 AMThe Desert Eagle uses a gas-operated ejection and chambering mechanism normally found in rifles, as opposed to the short recoil or blowback designs most commonly seen in semi-automatic pistols. The advantage of the gas operation is that it allows the use of far more powerful cartridges than traditional semi-automatic pistol designs. Thus, it allows the Desert Eagle to compete in an area that had previously been dominated by magnum revolvers.
