Herman projects this image as a way of compensating for the humiliation he received after being manhandled and kicked around in prison. His anger and sense of defeat is palpable as he lives it every day. It must be a real let down for a Big Tough Guy like him being told like a child by the Prison Staff when to shit and to eat. Couldn't imagine what it must've been like to share a prison cell with others just like him.
