Well,  I was around when it happened, sb.

You probably werrn't old enough to remember.

But I sure remember when the AIDS epidemic appeared around 1980.

People were scared shitless. Especially the gay community whom it decimated.

I actually met the mother of a prominent Vancouver gay rights activist who died of AIDS.

Someone I worked with died of AIDS after contracting the disease in Africa.

Did it affect the Korean community too, sb?

No man over the age of 20 is still a homophobe. Unless of course they are a virgin or gay themselves.

oh.

After knowing & working with someone who died of AIDS, perhaps it changed my perspective.

AIDS is a terrible way ta die, sou;bro.

Shut down my friends body functions, brain, & eventually death.

I never forget the day my co-worker died.

It was 4 am in the morning when they passed on, eh.

I also knew somebody who drank barrel wash & fooled around with prostitutes like Herman.

We used to go down to a place to pick up the grape concentrate & he used to make barrel wash literally out of green barrels.

He contracted Hepatitis C, a shot liver & he deteriorated to the point where he needed a catheter through the back of his neck to breathe.

He opted out of a second operation which could have extended his life.

But since he didn't, he ended up dying in his own vomit.

I guess I've seen too much reality which altered my perception.

Have you known anyone who's died of VD in your Korean community, seoulbro?

...the press made fun of her, villified her, nailed poor Anita to the cross.

But I'm forced to admit.

That woman was right.

She was on the wrong side of social trends.

But on the right side of historical outcomes.

The resulting AIDS epidemic proved her right.

However she paid a huge price, lost her fortune & her marriage.

Villain/Villainous - or Tragic Heroine?

What do you think, folks?

Discuss.

I'd be interested in what Fashionista thinks.

Personally I admire her courage & standing up for what she thought was right.
