Fears? More like joy, from a generous gift from the heavens above.

Or: "How to turn a ground squirrel into a flying squirrel in one easy step."
Ground squirrels weigh nothing... a helium balloon with peanut butter on the string would carry a ground squirrel away...

Always happening.... every year....
An interesting new avatar DInky.
My premier and his brothers....
FINALLY...I was getting tired of the frickin sugar glider staring at me...
That was a possum...
Ah, possums in Oz have different markings than they do here..They are obviously cuter than their N. American cousins.https://youtu.be/VYPV2zwBaBs">https://youtu.be/VYPV2zwBaBs
Interesting...especially the single offspring thing. Ours have an assload of babies. I guess because their mortality rate is so high. Unlike a chicken, the God damn things can't seem to make it across the road.

Ours also have a bare rat like tail and they are not the most attractive of creatures. But they are beneficial animals. They eat ticks and other harmful insects. They also eat carrion and help clean up the environment.
About two years ago one of my dogs, a female American Eskimo miniature, got a hold of a opossum in my backyard. It was dark and I couldn't see what she had but she was shaking the shit out of it and tossing it around like a rag doll. When I finally called her off, I went to inspect what she was chewing on and found it was an opossum. The poor ugly thing was all torn up and obviously had a broken back. I had to put the poor thing out of it's misery with a .22 short.
I had a heirloom .22 rifle purchased from Sears in 60's that fired shorts as well as LR... damn thing jammed like crazy and shorts were hard to find.
I have an old Marlin 780 bolt action that I keep handy for pests. It will fire .22 LR, .22 short and the discontinued. 22 long. If your rifle was a semi auto, the .22 short doesn't generate enough energy to operate most semi autos reliably.
