Quote from: Oliver the Second on June 07, 2024, 11:29:00 PMMarijuana is legal here and I use it every day. But I do NOT drive while stoned. If I have to go to the store or the bank or anything it gets done before my first puff. After my first puff I'm not driving for the rest of the day. The very last thing I need is a DUI.

That is commendable but you know very well that other humans aren't so commendable.

I am very well aware of the drug industry because I have a family of addicts and drug dealers...

Drugs are a huge part of our society and have been since the sixties... I was 14 nearly 15 when I got stoned off my tits the first time.

DOPE has been decriminalised where I live for over 2 decades.

I hate marijuana with a passion. I always had too much and it used to make me violently ill...

The only nice way of using it, if there is one, and that's the oil heating it up with a spoon and breathing the vapour. And I haven't done that for 1/4 of a century.

It's not a drug that suits me physically and worst of all are all my friends and acquaintances who ended up stoned and road kill.

One poor BIL is the same age as me and now looks 30 to 40 years older...

My brother who is 1 year younger is on Kemo because his addictions have given him cancer.

It also causes me extreme anguish watching drugged people I know die slowly.

3 of my nephews are smack junkies.

I've no problem with it. A few people I know smoke pot and eat gummies, I'm cool with that. But it has been many years since I've felt the desire to partake of that myself, even in the presence of others that do.

Depends who you talk to. Nationalizing the corruption previously outsourced to third parties (ie: the black market) has put a serious dent in the quality of the cabbage, or so I'm told. I don't trust the government in anything, other than their ability to produce inflation and red tape and to otherwise generally fuck up at my expense.

That way I remain undisappointed.

Quote from: caskur on June 06, 2024, 01:58:44 PMYou have no idea what you are talking about tumbleweed.

Marijuana kills people on the roads everyday like alcohol.... the only purpose that shit has is turning it into mothballs...

Over-rated drug...for women, they can't get out of their beds first thing in the morning to attend their toddlers.

Been there, done it, decided its for losers with a capital L.

Look at Prince Harry and Markles mother.... two dropkicks.. stoned off their tits continually.
Yes yes yes... (( pats Caskie on her furry little head )) ...and there are countless fatal "accidents" that happen on the roads every day where drugs play absolutely no role whatsoever.

They do involve people though. Strange, that... it's almost as though... it is the people that are at fault and not any contributing circumstances. No, not even the ones you would have us all condemn, even if there had been no accident at all in the first place.

Your pearl clutching and pious proposal, that we should strongly condemn the use of drugs and alcohol (alcohol is a drug too by the way, you need not give it special mention), is as patently ridiculous as my sarcastic suggestion that we ban cars entirely. And both are analogous to the similar levels of bedrock stupid that the Left is wont to offer up when it comes to things like firearm possession. Namely that "item X is present in some instances of an undesirable outcome, therefore we should forbid item X across the board."

I put it to you that I know far more on the topic than you would like to give me credit. Additionally, I would also point out that onerous statutes already exist that prohibit and provision punishment for the use of driving under the influence irrespective of the outcome of doing so. Emphasis I add as a nod of the head to those more capable than you (apparently) who indulge their habits while driving and provably without posing any threat to themselves or those around them by making it home without so much as a scratch. Tell me, is your suggestion of publicly flogging them all made because you genuinely believe it would make them knuckle under to your blanket decree, or are you simply proposing it out of spite?

And full disclosure (just so you don't go leaping to any false conclusions in your haste to claim me worthy of a public flogging), I have been driving for decades and have yet to find myself in a vehicle accident, intoxicated or otherwise. There is everything to be said for understanding ones own limitations and exercising ones best judgement to act within them.... in lieu of leaving it up to some Nanny Spankwhip authoritarian type that exercises (at best) a severely superficial knowledge of the topic they are mouthing off about.

Ciao ciao.[/b][/b]

Quote from: Brent on June 06, 2024, 06:04:47 PMThat is not what I am saying.

We were told this new industry would provide great jobs, increase tax revenue, and would not increase the numbers of chronic pot smokers. Only one of those predictions by Trudeau was true. Even with additional revenue he still can't find enough transfer payment money to provinces for health care or lower our taxes.

Marijiana legalization is the only thing that Trudeau has gotten right in nine years in office.

Cannabis is currently illegal in Singapore for recreational purposes. Possession or consumption can result in a maximum of 10 years in prison, with a possible fine of $20,000, as well as caning, under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Trafficking, import or export of more than 500 grams may result in the death penalty.Medical cannabis is also not permitted, with very limited exceptions for cannabidiol (CBD) pharmaceuticals.

In 2022, a survey by the local newspaper The Sunday Times as well as consumer research company Milieu found that 53% of Singaporeans believe that the country should explore legalising cannabis for medical purposes. 35% were against both medical and recreational cannabis, and 12% were for the legalisation of both medical and recreational cannabis, totaling 65% being for medical legalisation.

Okay maybe weed should be kept on the black market where it doesn't generate any tax revenue and isn't regulated at all but does encourage the formation of criminal enterprises (and everything that comes with them) and disrupts/ruins lives with frivolous arrests and prosecutions.

I'm sure that's a much better way to go.
We still have pot dealers seven years after full legalization. Their shit is cheaper. They don't have heavy taxes on their product.
