All Putin and whoever succeeds him has to do is wait.

They've already proved that the west's sanctions are stupid and ineffective.

They've already exposed the west's military capacity as inadequate for facing anything but poorly-equipped resistance fighters in an impoverished and decimated occupied country and even then it only works as long as we have our boot on that country's neck. We crushed Afghanistan in our iron fist for 20 years and the day after we left the Taliban were back in charge.

We've lost influence in the global south, most of the middle east, and Africa is shaking off the chains we and other western nations have used to keep them down.

Our political and economic meddling and exploitation, plus our support for psychotic governments like Israel and other autocratic repressive regimes all over the world is cutting our own throat in the diplomatic arena. If two countries -like for instance Iran and Saudi Arabia- want to soften their mutual enmity they don't call the USA... they call China or Russia.

A multipolar world isn't just theory or some long-term nebulous goal; it's already happening. It can't be stopped. Neither ignoring it nor interfering with its progress will preserve the unipolar world order. It will only make the inevitable fall of the 'Murican empire that much more ignominious.

Russia doesn't need us.
Our own policies and machinations forced that on them so we've nobody to blame except ourselves.

Putin doesn't need a deal with the USA.

All he needs is patience and we'll merrily destroy ourselves then Putin can make a deal with whatever still exists of the USA afterward. Or not. He probably wants to but strictly speaking it's hardly necessary.

Yeah but here's the deal though. Even if by some miracle democrats don't manage to steal their way into the election or murder trump before he gets to the finish line, Putin knows that any deal brokered between he and trump is a temporary one at best. He will be certain that the rodents on the left will go back to the drawing port post loss and ensure their future machinations are even air tighter thus hampering any long lasting peace processes which would otherwise be enjoyed by these two powers
