Quote from: . on January 17, 2025, 05:12:20 AMParticularly once Denmark started taking its marching orders from Brussels and the Swedish Gollum as to the stunning amount of mineral wealth they were forbidden to dig up from under their own feet. Because you just know there's enough lithium (aka "Tesla T") under the ice to put an almighty ding in the PRC's balance of trade.Similar to the situation of resource rich provinces in Canada.

Quote from: . on January 14, 2025, 11:20:04 PMEven if that isn't the aim, triggering a successful seccessionist movement within Greenland opens up a world of opportunity for both the US and Greenland. That may be what Trump is aiming for. Tarl Warwick seems to think so.I am sure there was always some grumblings about the government of Denmark not giving them enough autonomy.
Claiming an interest in annexing it could be an opening gambit - it sure would fit Donald's MO of being a negotiator. Start with the Big Ask, barter the other party to an agreement that contains most or all of what you actually want. The US doesn't actually need Greenland to be a state, not if they are sympathetic to business dealings and out from under the boot of the EU. Same holds true for Panama and Canada, in case anyone was thinking of going "REEEEE" over some of his other "Big Asks" in recent weeks.
Quote from: Shen Li on January 14, 2025, 11:39:39 PMI still have investments in Canada. I would love for Canada to at least adopt the US greenback with some sort of economic union.I'm wondering if that's such a good idea. When the petrodollar was riding high, sure. But Biden has fucked over the Sauds something fierce during his tenure and if there's one thing the Sauds and their nappyheaded ilk despise it's the breaking of agreements. Granted, Biden is one man; so is Trump and so is anyone that comes after. From a Saudi perspective that means they cannot rely on long term US cooperation, subject as it is to the whims of any random yahoo that assumes the Commander In Chief role. Therefore, the future of the greenback isn't as assured as it might have otherwise been and any attempt at an economic union comes with hazards. The EU would be loath to trumpet those.

Quote from: . on January 14, 2025, 02:33:14 AMHave these movers and shakers heard of a thing called "Cascade Failure"? By all means, form your little empire, rope-a-dope Commiefornia into the equations, but be sure and do it before the next Big One.I don't know enough about the movement to say if they have taken into consideration California's seismic activity.
That way when California slides into the ocean, the cost of rehousing the refugees falls on someone other than the US of A and Canada. Sound like a plan?
Which ceases to be a consideration once the civilized parts of the US take back the Panama Canal and potentially annexing Greenland.

I think it's a great idea, it can be yet one more example of "real socialism hasn't been tried yet" and a timely reminder to the sane of just how far down the toilet bowl that Marxism can take you. And yeah, I'm fully aware that it sounds unnecessarily cruel to not save these demented lunatics from themselves; the libertarian in me says "fuck 'em, let 'em find out the hard way" because attempting to reason with them is only causing the rest of us go backwards.
I'm not tired of winning yet. Moar win please.

I suppose it could include at least parts of California as well.
Quote from: Thiel on January 13, 2025, 02:50:45 PMThat would be a disaster for trade. They would ban export of products they don't like such as LNG. It's illegal under international, but an ultra-woke new West coast nation will feel it is above the law.

Better to kick California out of the union and give their spot to Greenland, Panama or Canadia.
