In retrospect seems the only logical reason was to obtain pardons or protections for his family.

He may have been fully aware that his mental faculties were failing but he was obsessed with saving his son Hunter Biden to ensure that he got a pardon.

Anyway that's how I see it. Right or wrong that seems to be the reason Biden stayed. Because if he has decided not to seek re election a pardon for his son might have been in doubt.
