I can't speak for Shen of course, but I can speak for me. There was a time when I was convinced Canada was the country I was going to grow old and die in. I built a business from scratch and contributed my share back into public pool under the understanding that my contribution would be used to further improve the economic landscape and was ultimately rewarded instead with a government which made no secret of its fiscal irresponsibility. And I understood that no amount of "it's so much worse over there" could solve the undeniable truth of just how untenable my relationship with Canada was. I mean even if it were true that prospects in America were worse (and I'm not pretending for a moment that they are), it still doesn't negate the truth of the matter - that prospects in Canada were (and still are) dire as fuck and therefore investing my time and effort somewhere else is imperative.

The balance sheet is easy enough to read and plenty of business-minded folks have interpreted it as I have. Canada's future as an egalitarian wet dream will be realised in the form of a denuded peasantry forced to eke out their existence in the frozen decaying urban wilderness of paltry handouts and indentured servitude to foreign overseers. You won't be allowed to own anything and anything you thought to call yours will be stripped from you. Because you're nice. Because you allow yourselves to be governed by the kinds of rat bastard who will steal everything and grudge crumbs to utter losers like Joe. You think Carney and his successors are going to be content with the damage they've done? We've already seen a government that saw no problem with freezing peoples bank accounts and bashing their opposition in the streets with truncheons and billyclubs... what are you going to do when they come for your car? Your house? The very food on your plate?

I make no apology for refusing point blank to pay into that kind of fascism. Joe can cheer and argue for its arrival, you can hunker down behind your door and hope like hell it doesn't find you when it essentially already has and is toying with with you like some predatory alley cat. And it's hard, because I've lived among you. I know the average Canadian's capacity for decency and kindness, but there is naivete in spades there too and it is that more than anything that will be your downfall. And unlike America you don't have a Trump to stand between you and the bullets being fired at your way of life.

The US does, which is why they are enjoying some limited success in getting out from under a political system where left and right are captured and therefore puppets for the same international interests. The same political arrangement should be playing out on Canadian soil, except for the widespread unwillingness to internalise the parties are captured and actually doing something about it.

I don't see it changing any time soon. Even now I see the blinkered denial in the right's assertion they might claw their way back from the abyss if only they could get the liberals out, refusing to acknowledge there are those in their midst that serve the self-same masters that the liberal party does.
