Then federal Conservatives are seeking to stop the scheduled expansion of medical assistance in dying (MAiD) to people suffering only from a mental illness. On March 17, 2027, individuals suffering from only a mental illness, with no physical ailment or otherwise terminal condition, will be eligible to seek MAiD.

 
The mental illness expansion to MAID eligibility has been denounced by psychiatrists, mental health advocates, Indigenous communities, and disability rights organizations. The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has condemned Canada's MAID program and specifically called for a halt to the planned 2027 mental illness expansion.

Bill C-218, the Right to Recover Act, is essential to keeping hope alive for those living with mental illness. Allowing people with only a mental illness to seek MAiD abandons the vulnerable, who need hope, compassion, and support. We know it's possible to survive and even thrive after wanting to end your life. Like anyone suffering from illness, they need help to recover.

Consider this also, this is from the summer months where traditionally economies are performing stronger. I shudder to think what will happen when Canada's harsh winter approaches?
