Quote from: JOE on October 10, 2025, 04:53:33 PMWell, be grateful to people like my Grandfather who was a member off the CCF (the forerunner of the NDP) & folks like JS Woodsworth/Tommy Douglas.Sweetie, what would you know about working people besides watching me put in long hours to keep you in chocolate gold coins and comic books.
They fought for working people on the prairies in provinces such as Manitoba.
You think you did all by your little self, but you didn't BrentBrent.
Others who came before you fought hard so YOU could have a better life.
Albert Einstein had a saying, "I stand on the Shoulders of Giants."
Well...you as a former railroad worker stand on the shoulders of railroad workers who sacrificed for you.
And there's another think I wanted to add....You trash this country Canada so hard when it's done so much for YOU.
You said you had a drinking problem. Well...quite obviously the treatment or the agencies they funded helped straighten out your life, Brent. And that funding came from the Canadian taxpayer and our generous Social system.
If you'd lived in the US, they're a lot less kind, less merciful and forgiving.
But you wouldn't know, because you've never lived there. I have. So I know.
You've been coddled in Canada so you could get back on your feet.
If you subscribe to 'Survival of the Fittest', you certainly are not one of its best specimens I'm afraid.
That society runs on the motto "Only the Strong Survive".
But you don't seem that strong ta me.
Quote from: Herman on October 10, 2025, 09:24:29 PMYou should donate your OAS or your CPP to charity when you are old enough to collect them. You will get a good chunk back on your income taxes. That is what I am going to do.OAS and CPP means living in a rooming house and sharing a toilet and shower with ten other people.
Like you said, it is a pittance for most of us, but a lot of money to broke as fuck bums like old Joe.
Quote from: Brent on October 10, 2025, 03:12:17 PMI started collecting an annual pension of $66 grand last year when I turned fifty five. That is not including my $1400 tax free annual health spending account. My house is paid for plus I have loads in RRSP's I could turn into a RIF for more monthly income at any time. You should donate your OAS or your CPP to charity when you are old enough to collect them. It is sad that some people have to retire broke like Joe and rely on government handouts. It is not even enough to pay rent on a one bedroom apartment in the hood.
He should be getting down on his knees and thanking God for Thiel. Otherwise Joe would be another homeless senior.
Oh well

"Retire from what Sugarplum? Glued to the chair in my office all day and posting on forums?
It looks like you love your work to much to retire. That's fine. Just don't spend all your allowance on Disney toys. You still need to set some money aside for lube."

Quote from: Joe. on October 09, 2025, 10:17:46 PMReceived my allowance from Thiel the other day. Not sure if I entirely deserve it, but he gave it to me anyway.
The odd thing is, I don't even feel like I'm retired at all. I feel like I've never worked a day in my seventy five years.
