R.I.P to the great Charlie Kirk! ~ R.I.P to our friend Caskur!
Quote from: Biggie Smiles on January 27, 2026, 12:58:57 PMIt's technically true but will it actually happen? doubtfulI paid the maximum into CPP my entire working life. It was about $4200 Canadian a year from my pay plus my company Canadian Pacific paid the same.
I've been paying the highest level of social security tax for nearly 30 years. So taking a conservative estimate we'll just baseline the yearly total at 7,000 as it's steadily risen to 9K over that 30 year time frame
that's 210,000.00 I've paid in and an equal amount paid in by past and present employers.
By the time I retire which is not for at least 15 more years that will be close to a million paid in.
even at the 60,000+ a year I'll be lucky if I get a third of that back. So even those numbers it's still a scam
Quote from: Dove on January 27, 2026, 05:19:20 AMYes it IS.I'm sure it will be around. However, it prolly won't be the same as today. It could be means tested and it will pay lower benefits.
I dont expect to see any of it when im old either. I figure I have another 30 years of work left in me lol.
Quote from: Brent on January 27, 2026, 12:08:38 PMThat has to be a mistake. I know Social Security pays more than Canada Pension Plan but they do not pay sixty six grand a year. I think maybe 2,200 a month would be the high end. It's technically true but will it actually happen? doubtful

Quote from: Shen Li on January 26, 2026, 10:41:06 PMAmericans really pay for SS too. It is a big chunk from paycheques.
Quote from: Biggie Smiles on January 26, 2026, 10:58:03 PMSupposedly, I'm entitled to 5,500.00 a month when I retireHoly fuck. The max for CPP is about $1300 CDN/month. Almost nobody gets that. The national pension plan in Singapore(Central Provident Fund) is a lot more generous.
but by then this ponzi scheme will have long since collapsed
So I guess I'm lucky I sit at a computer all day and totally love what I do cause I'll be working late into my elder years.
Quote from: Shen Li on January 26, 2026, 10:53:48 PMI paid the max for CPP in Canada and it was less than that. CPP doesn't pay anything tho. Most people get around $800/month after paying into it for 40+ years.Supposedly, I'm entitled to 5,500.00 a month when I retire
Quote from: Biggie Smiles on January 26, 2026, 10:51:54 PMI pay over 9,000.00 per yearI paid the max for CPP in Canada and it was less than that. CPP doesn't pay anything tho. Most people get around $800/month after paying into it for 40+ years.

Quote from: Lokmar on January 26, 2026, 02:44:10 PMI dont have a problem with people who do this in America just as long as they paid in ITFP. Social Security is a ponzi scheme and needs to go the fuk away. I absolutely HATE FDR!Americans really pay for SS too. It is a big chunk from paycheques.
Quote from: Brent on January 26, 2026, 11:59:39 AMI had an aunt that was collecting my uncle's CPP and Old Age Security for a lot of years after his death. She never got caught.
Quote from: Shen Li on January 25, 2026, 11:01:32 PMNot reporting deaths to social assistance is common back in Canada. Not on this scale tho.I had an aunt that was collecting my uncle's CPP and Old Age Security for a lot of years after his death. She never got caught.
