Title: Thinking of getting a smartwatch
Post by: Vancouver on November 21, 2018, 10:22:39 PM
Fossil's latest 4th generation Explorist HR. There's a black friday 30% off sale until sunday. It brings it down to $255. I'll try it on in stores first. With it's NFC feature I'll be able to make credit and debit payments by tapping. When I'm too lazy to pull my phone or wallet out.

I like receiving notifications. It's noisy and dirty at work. I don't have time to always pull my phone out.

Looks a bit formal for my taste, but still nice none the less.  Guess I still have the luxury of taking my phone out when ever needed, some others unfortunately don't like Gaon has mention.

Though I'm more of a guy that prefer dumb watches just for the variety of fashion, but most of the time I dun even bother wearing one unless on rare occasions.

I work in construction, so it's hard to pull out my phone whenever I fee like it. If I worked in an office, I would stick with a dumb watch.

It makes sense, though I have zero experience working in outdoor professions but I always assume less distraction from your phone could save a life in these kind of environment, but just hope it's not as risky as I assume it is.

Besides being a safety concern, a phone can be damaged. Also, when paid by the hour, it looks bad using your phone.

Next time I engage a tradie...if he charges by the hour I'm insisting that he leaves his phone in the car.

They don't run offices, which is understandable, but they try to run their businesses while working on site.

I got caught with an electrician who charged for every hour he spent on site, but he was on the phone for ages every day.

Never again. Either a fixed quote...or keep your phone in the car.

That seems fair and right.

Now until Sunday Fossil have the same black Friday 30% off everything in stores and online. I tried on the stainless steel explorist hr smartwatch. The silicone band version is more lightweight and felt more comfortable on my wrist. Plus it's $20 cheaper so that's what I got. The bands are interchangeable. Stainless steel does look more nice.

Very few watch bands that look like stainless steel are in fact made of stainless steel. They use polished alloys, or plated brass.

High end watches use stainless steel. It's very heavy by comparison, and also expensive to manufacture due to its hardness.

A stainless steel watch band could cost you up to $1500.

But not to turn into watch bands.

They must be surgical stainless steel (to avoid skin irritations), which is very hard, and precisely machined and polished. It's like making a watch band using marble.
