Title: CNN Poll on European Attitudes Towards Jews
Post by: Gaon on November 28, 2018, 12:07:44 PM
Some of the results;

*More than a quarter of Europeans polled believe Jews have too much influence in business and finance

*Nearly one in four said Jews have too much influence in conflict and wars across the world.

*One in five said they have too much influence in the media and the same number believe they have too much influence in politics.

*a third of Europeans in the poll said they knew just a little or nothing at all about the Holocaust, the mass murder of some six million Jews in lands controlled by Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime in the 1930s and 1940s.

*About one European in 20 in the countries CNN surveyed has never heard of the Holocaust

But, it doesn't say that Europeans in the countries surveyed do not see Jews as fellow Europeans.

I am not trying to imply it does.

I see Jews generally as being disproportionately overrepresented in positions of power and influence. Not all Jews of course.

It is long past the time that Jews let go of the holocaust.

Clinging to that historically horrific and inhuman episode in their history serves them no good purpose in the world.

It makes them arrogant, and gives them a sense of righteousness over and above reason. Whenever Jews are criticised or provoked, somewhere in their reaction will be a reference to an act of genocide that the entire world has condemned.

Citing victimhood in order to redress injustice and to cause necessary change is fair and reasonable. However, like all causes arising from persecution and injustice, when they reach the point of being overused they become rancid and counter productive. Like feminism, unionism and racism.

Humanity moves on, but the victims cling to their cause through fear of becoming irrelevant and impotent without it.

The Jewish use of the holocaust is becoming tiresome and irritating. Using it to claim some higher level of morality does not work any more, and using it to justify the State of Israel is never going to succeed.

Imposing itself in the Arab world may have seemed like a good idea at the time, but the fact is that as long as Israel exists in its current location there is going to be conflict. Israel will forever be a heavily armed citadel in a land of barbarians.

Screw the historic victimization card. But, I support Israel in the Middle East.

Me too. But not because they have an inherent "right", either historically or morally.

Jews colonised an ungoverned part of the world, dislodging the aboriginal population. None of us in former colonial countries are in a position to criticise.

Sure, the persecution they suffered just because they were Jewish would motivate them to find somewhere where they can be safe and practice their primitive beliefs unhindered, and there wasn't much world left to colonise. But, by happenstance and fortune, the lands they originated from were still largely unclaimed and without a political structure.

They took it. But just as with the rest of us living in colonised territory, we live with a tarnished heritage and an unsettled, unhappy and unintegrated native population.

Israel not only has an indigenous population to deal with...but the entire geographical area is populated by outraged Arabs who want the land for themselves...and a Persian nation that has thrown its hat in the ring for some reason (Persians and Arabs never being on good terms).

There will be no peace, just as we have no peace with our native tribes. A surly acceptance is the best we can hope for.

I agree with Gaon that the dog's breakfast that is the muddle east has nothing to do with palestinians. That's a smoke screen.

What is it about then?

The arabs despise having jews, whom they regard as less than us infidels, living in their midst. The Persians are just crazy.

The arabs want the jews gone by any and all means possible. It's a simple matter of religious intolerance.

Except when it suits them.

To buy their oil. Sell them guns. Build their glittering cities. Access our technology.

Then you'd better start riding a bicycle.

And the bad news is that even then, you wouldn't avoid using Saudi oil based products.

Oil is used for a massive array of everyday items, such as plastics, detergents, insecticides, medical technology, tyres, hoses, and industrial equipment (as you know...your train goes nowhere without oil as well as diesel). The oil rich nations own the planet.

For now.

Canada has hundreds of barrels of oil that we can't get to Eastern Canada let alone competing with the same markets that SA supplies. SA buys off enviro groups and politicians in Canada. They know Canada could put them out of business.

Justin Trudeau wants to phase it out before it can start supplying the world..

Saudi Arabia has his blessing.

It's hard for governments in Islamic countries to be anything other than dictatorial secularists or Islamist.

I would say "impossible".

That is the mistake America repeatedly makes. It assumes that their form of governance is a model for all nations, and believes that it can only be on good terms with those who govern themselves in the same manner.

Notwithstanding its many flaws that even those of us who live under democracy constantly observe, it is far from a "one size fits all" form of government.

Trump is the first president that doesn't try to impose American style government on alien cultures.
