https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/oh-no-it-s-2018-again-typo-projected-onto-sydney-harbour-bridge-pylon-20190101-p50p12.html

New Year's Eve revellers were taken back in time for a moment during Monday's fireworks after a typo was projected onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

''Happy New Year 2018'' lit up one of the bridge's pylons, with many taking to social media to point out the gaffe.

The error occurred during the midnight fireworks, where an estimated one million people watched on the edge of Sydney Harbour, and a further one billion looked on worldwide.

Only a select few though were clever enough to recognise the mistake, with one Twitter user calling it a "great error".

Here's a native of Australia (Dad is Australian and Mom is Filipino) who went on to represent the Philippines at the recent Miss Universe pageant, an extavaganza that I don't always watch but if a Miss Philippines wins, I take an interest. She is so gorgeous that even I have a girl crush on her. Wow! She stood out from the rest like no other I've seen. Her "lava" walk was just fabulous. Perfect.

All State capitals are built on the coast, and each one has their own iconic beach with one strange exception; Brisbane. Its coastline is horrid.

Sydney has Bondi (which isn't that great if you see it up close), Melbourne has St Kilda, Adelaide has Glenelg, Darwin has Mindal, Perth has Cottlesloe.

Hobart's beaches aren't great either...but it's never warm enough there to matter.

I'm going to show you Cottesloe.

It beats Bondi a thousand to one...lol

Remember when Jane Priest kissed Prince Charles back when he was 30? That was at Cottesloe. Prince Charles has been there twice.

Despite what BT, Perth is the best place on the planet... The only way you could get me to leave would be pay me a billion dollars and even then I would say no.

Cottesloe from different angles...  And beaches are FREE in Australia. (god help us if they ever change that).

We try to not run the air con by opening up all windows at night, closing them in the early hours, drawing shades and curtains down, and minimizing how often external doors are opened. Works well although on 40 degree plus days the air con is needed later in the afternoon.

Quote from: "caskur"Well the big difference is for 6 (six) Kiwi say SEX heavier accented it sounds like SUX...

And for SEX, the say six (6)

Someone somewhere a century ago got their  i and e mixed up I think.

Even if a person from NZ who has been in Australia for 30+ years, one can pick up that difference in accent alone.

Is Tim and Jim Tum and Jum?

Chalk and cheese.

There is a time honoured test to determine if the person you're speaking with is New Zealand or Australian.

Ask them to say "six dollars and sixty six cents worth of fish and chips".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab_MLnr1Q4I

It will sound like "Sux dollahs and suxty sux cints worth of fush and chups."

It used to be that you could tell by how mixed Maori someone appeared but after generations in Australia many young people have either been born or raised here and they're Aussie with Maori background.

Marginally.

Many criminal gangs are Maoris, as well as bikies.

Australia deports hundreds of Kiwis for breaking laws in Australia.

But to be fair, the vast majority are good people who work hard and are part of their communities.

New Zealand has more gangs per head than any other country in the world,[3] with about seventy major gangs and over 4,000 patched members[4] in a population of 4 million people.

Safety in numbers.

Bikies are shit. They're just druggies and rapists who should bathe more often. Stick them in the Army and send them to Iraq. Revoke citizenship.

God's Garbage or maybe it's the Mongrel Mob...

Bikies ran new gang out of town

The West Australian10 Mar 2018 Grant Taylor

Michael Moke, right, in 1989.

Either the Mongrel Mob have short memories, or its members are gluttons for punishment.

The last time the predominantly Maori gang tried to muscle its way into Perth, they got their butts kicked by WA's existing bikie gangs, who sent them packing.

It was 1989 and WA had only four bikie clubs, who fiercely protected their turf.

So when the Mob declared itself to be a new force in town, it soon found itself embroiled in open warfare with the four clubs, who joined forces to run the interlopers out of town.

The violence culminated in the Mob's vice-president Selwyn Wharepapa being firebombed at his work, before being shot just days later as he stood outside his Swan View home.

Police took the extraordinary step of dragging the feuding gangs to police headquarters in East Perth, where a truce was hammered out. In reality it was more of a capitulation, with the Mob's State president Michael "Pixie" Moke agreeing to shut up shop and leave WA for good.

Almost 30 years on, WA has 11 bikie gangs whose growth seems to be never-ending.

The Australian Border Force's efforts to deport gang members who are not Australian citizens is helping. But it is clear that WA Police need greater powers to rein in gang growth. The State Government has promised a solution with anti-consorting laws. They have worked in NSW and appear to be a simple, effective measure.

It is now up to the State Government to deliver sooner rather than later.
