These outrageous comments will play well among China's ultra nationalist online population.
A Chinese envoy on Wednesday accused Canada and its allies of "Western egotism and white supremacy" for demanding the immediate release of two Canadians held for alleged spying.
In a letter published by The Hill Times newspaper, China's ambassador to Canada Lu Shaye also criticized the "groundless" detention of a top Chinese tech executive at the request of the United States.
"It seems that, to some people, only Canadian citizens shall be treated in a humanitarian manner and their freedom deemed valuable, while Chinese people do not deserve that," he said.
"The reason why some people are used to arrogantly adopting double standards is due to Western egotism and white supremacy."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Donald Trump in a telephone call on Monday denounced the "arbitrary" detentions of Kovrig and Spavor.
Australia, Britain, France, Japan, Germany and the European Union have also made statements in support of Canada.
Meng is currently living in a luxury home in Vancouver after being released on bail pending the outcome of an extradition hearing.
Meanwhile, a group of Canadian parliamentarians visiting China this week complained to officials that Kovrig and Spavor have been granted few consular visits, denied access to lawyers, and remain in "completely unacceptable" detention conditions.

Chinese people apparently DO deserve tyranny, oppression, persecution, lack of civil rights, deprivation of freedom of speech and assembly and no say in who rules them.
What a fucked up thing to say..
China runs on slavery..
But they dont feed their slaves as well as the plantation owners did.
The comments the ambassador seem strange to anyone other than mainland Chinese..
Remember, what the ambassador said was for domestic consumption.
The Huawei CFO is living in a mansion and the Canadian business people China kidnapped are rotting away in real prisons.
And yet our corporations cannot wait to build their factories in China and use their cheap labour.

Well thats what we get for getting involved in a Made in America problem.
Fool boy Trudeau should've allowed that CEO to get on a plane & return to China.
Even John Manley, who served over 10 years in previous Liberal administrations & ran for that party's leadership suggested/stated that this would have been the best approach. I believe he defined it as 'creative incompetence ' in order to avoid the situation we have now.
Then we wouldn't have this diplomatic mess

There are lots of countries with much cheaper labour and fewer if any social welfare regulations.

These are comments by John Manley, a senior minister under Jean Chretien and Paul Martin.
A centre right wing liberal more closely aligned with your seoulbro 's political beliefs.
Thats how he wouldve handled it.
According to Manley, Trudeau caved in to US demands & botched the Huawei incident
Perhaps seoulbro would also like to read how a conservative Liberal & a political pro like Manley would have handled that situation.
Then you can comment on the article if you like

"If the application from the requesting state is in order, then Canada is legally obliged to arrest her," said Rob Currie, a Dalhousie law professor who focuses extensively on extradition law.

Yes I did.
But John Manley, a trained lawyer & deputy Prine Minister under Jean Chretien administration doesn't agree with you nor the law Professor on the approach which should have been taken.
Manley used the term 'creative incompetence' which would have have allowed Meng to tetun to China.
If international diplomacy was a turnkey system that runs like a vending machine, then the Dalhousie professor 's statement would be slam dunk.
But of course in the real world it isn't
The arrest of Meng has had real workd consequences as the arrest and detained Canadians demonstrated
John Manley is hardly impartial...Telus does business with Huawei..
But, even if you believe he is impartial, he doesn't believe our extradition treaty with the USA is not binding or that the prime minister's office should have intervened..
He did say the attorney general could have looked the other way.

Actually Fashionista I agree with the Chinese ambassador.
That America's actions smack of white supremacy and racism.
Heck I'm not Chinese but their actions ate blatantly racist.
Thereve been various corporations guilty of infractions but tgey didnt arrest nor shackle the ceo in chains.
Demanding or threatening to deport ceo Meng was unnecessary and way over the top.
Sanctions and closing down Huawei was sufficient.
Trouble is America especially under trump baits and wants to kill/humiliate others.
But there are repercussions.
And there are many Americans who think the US under Trumps administration has gone too far & it smacks of Rogue international Justice and diplomacy

WARSAW, Poland (AP) —Poland has arrested a director at the Chinese tech giant Huawei and one of its own former cybersecurity experts and charged them with spying for China (//https), authorities said Friday.
The development comes as the U.S. is exerting pressure on its allies not to use Huawei, the world's biggest maker of telecommunications network equipment, over data security concerns.
The two men — one a Chinese citizen who was a former envoy in Poland before moving over to a senior position at Huawei and the other a Pole who held several top government cybersecurity positions — were arrested Tuesday, according to Poland's Internal Security Agency.

I am not a Chinese history expert, but I did check Qing dynasty China. In the second half of the 19th century, slave girls were very common in China; nearly every Chinese family owned one or more slave girls generally bought from the girl's parents, but sometimes also obtained from other parties. It was a common thing for well-to-do people to present a couple of slave girls to a daughter as part of her marriage dowery. Nearly all prostitutes were slaves.

During the Qing and Yuan dynasty China did lost to the nomad barbarians(Manchurians and Mongols) and were subjected to their culture and customs, which caused slavery to be a lot more common. But aside from that during ancient times in China slaves only made about 1% of the population compared to Romans that had roughly about 40%.

I hear ya Gaon, but when it comes to history about China wiki and some other sites just can't be taken too seriously, a lot of those people that write these stuff are probably Roman fanatics that hardly knows anything about China and despise the Chinese historians for beating in a debate about the Han Dynasty vs Roman Empire match 12 years ago. In fact most Chinese people have long understanding of the driving force and potential power of a free market economy that can easily blow the performance and productivity of slavery out of the water. I might not be too fond of China in general, but there's one thing I must agree on that China does better than the West is their ability to run and make use of the economy, b/c Chinese are obsessed with money and other bling bling, lol.

And the reason Poland will do America's bidding is they want American protection against Russia.
Poles tell me how much they hate Russia & will do anything to prevent their return.
So anything to appease the US to keep their soldiers on Polish soil.
You ought to read what is written once in a while.

Countries banning Huawei, Huawei violating sanctions, the company involved in espionage. But, the Western world is racist against poor China. Could you imagine if the company was Russian. They wouldn't be allowed to sell phone accessories in the West.

Poland wants America's protection against Russia.
They dont want them to leave.
So anything which will reassure the Americans that they have a trusted ally in Poland.
Poland is very afraid of Russia in light if its recent incursions inro the Ukraine.

What a fucked up thing to say..
China runs on slavery..
But they dont feed their slaves as well as the plantation owners did.
China ended slavery about 2000 years ago, in fact they're more capitalist in heart than any other nation on earth.
They have state capitalism meaning their government is a capitist one while the regular population are "communists."
Sorry duno how did I miss your posts, but truth to be told it's the other way around, China politically is communist(a dictatorship run by a single party in power) but economically wise and for the population their nearly all capitalist and run by a free market, why people are poor is b/c the reality is harsh, capitalism doesn't reward people that have little to no experience, skills/talent and education, which these people are an abundance across the world.
I purchased some Huawei products when I was briefly with Wind/Freedom Mobile.
But they weren't very good.
I left Wind because of poor quality reception and service.
Their csr clerks were often rude & unhelpful
I still have those Huawei devices as they gather dust somewhere on a shelf
Even though chinese are intelligent people, they are breeding out of control..

That's just one aspect. There is electronic warfare support. It's used to detect, intercept, identify, locate, and/or localize sources of intended and unintended radiated electromagnetic energy.

China says his new sentence is unrelated to the Meng's arrest, but it almost certainly is.
Unlike Canada and the USA, the standing committee of the CCP controls the judiciary.
A Canadian man who was convicted of smuggling drugs in China has been sentenced to death.
The case of Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, who was tried in 2016, was appealed last month by prosecutors concerned Schellenberg's original sentence of 15 years in prison was too lenient.
A new trial was ordered and took place Monday, according to a Google translation of a Chinese court website, with Schellenberg being found guilty and given a death sentence.
Specific details of the allegations against Schellenberg have not been released publicly.
Chinese officials have suggested that Schellenberg's case is not related to the arrests of Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor last month or the arrest in Canada of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou.

China has now fully lost the PR game in Canada
Less than two months ago, Canada's concerns with China were very different than they are today. At the end of November, Finance Minister Bill Morneau was in Beijing to give a talk to the Canada China Business Council.
It was one of those events that wouldn't have garnered much attention back home were it not for the fact that Canadian media ended up being inexplicably barred from entering the event by the Chinese government. They've never been into freedom of the press but it was troubling to see our own media on the receiving end.
That is now the least of our worries. Although it was a first-hand reminder that the Chinese Communist regime does things a little differently than we do them over here.
On Monday we learned just how differently, when the news broke that a Canadian man, Robert Lloyd Schellenberg, was sentenced to death in a Chinese court for drug smuggling.
Now the issue isn't that they have the death penalty. Or even so much that they're sentencing a Canadian to death, which is still the first such case of its kind. No, the issue is that they're making it clear that it's done to punish us.
Schellenberg was first arrested in China in 2014 and was tried two years later, when he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
It was reportedly only in December that the Chinese state media started referencing Schellenberg's case and an appeal of his conviction was heard on Dec. 29.
According to Schellenberg's lawyer, there was no new evidence presented at his retrial. So why reanimate Schellenberg's case at all? Why did prosecutors suddenly decide to dig into their files and drum this one up?
Here's what Rob Schmitz, NPR Shanghai correspondent, wrote on Twitter: "If there was any question as to the relationship between Huawei and the Communist Party of China before, today's hastily arranged death sentence for Canadian Robert Schellenberg in Dalian is confirmation it is a close and crucial one."
It shouldn't be taken as a coincidence that Schellenberg's retrial didn't start until after Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada on December 1.
"The other thing that I think has to be noticed is the fact that they invited foreign journalists to attend the trial," said Guy Saint-jacques, Canada's ambassador to China between 2012 and 2016, in an interview with CBC. "They claimed that it's for transparency purposes. Well, if that is the case, they could have started doing that years ago. I think all this was orchestrated."
They summoned foreign media to make sure it was covered. Beijing wanted to send a message.
And what a message they have sent: That in response to Meng being arrested and, don't forget, even granted bail in an open court setting, they're willing to arrest two Canadians, Michael Kovrig (a former diplomat) and Michael Spavor, and reopen the case of a third and sentence him to death.
What a disproportionate response. What an ugly tantrum. A public one at that. It doesn't bode well for China's PR game in the West and particularly here in Canada.
More Canadians will now be against enhanced trade relations. They'll want Canada to join its intelligence allies and ban Huawei from being involved in our 5G infrastructure grid. And they're going to look at the already troubling relationships between the Chinese government and a number of Canadian businesses and universities with greater scrutiny.
There have been warnings coming from experts and hawks for years about how China just doesn't following the same rules as us. Now regular Canadians are seeing this up close.
One last word: Can we get the Huawei logo off Hockey Night In Canada? It just leaves a bitter taste.

China is acting out like a toddler having a tantrum with this Huawei case. They've already gone over the line...and theyve kept going.
If they are making such a big issue about this woman, then China truly has something to hide.

Here we accuse China of planting spyware in Huawei phones, but isnt that what the cia, fbi and nsa do? Then they share that data with their western partners like interpol, csis & others.
Its almost as if if the west is saying that its ok to spy on their own citizens but they don't want china to do it.
In other words the western governments want the upper hand, a but they dont want a 3rd party aka the Chinese to snoop & compromise the spying process the west is engaged in.

Well the west aren't growing the drugs to export to China to poison their children...
That's what the Chinese are doing... they're in the drug smuggling business.
As well as the piracy and animal extiction businesses.
Yep, crooks and reprobates all round.
There should be more outrage.

I think China's accusation of double standards has merit.

If it was Russia or the USA there would be outrage.
The whole planet needs a shake-up..
and Australia actually has the highest extinction of animals..

In a rare interview with Canadian journalists, Lu also told Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to back off recruiting international support in Canada's feud with China. He said it would be a bad idea for Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland to use the upcoming World Economic Forum summit in Davos to press that case.
Will we let China bully us?
Stay tuned.

Well one thing China could do to us is pull the plug on our real estate bubble, sell significant holdings & take their investment money elsewhere. They've done it before & they could do it again.
Didn't this happen 20 years ago in 1997?
I've also read many Western universities are afraid that the influx of foreign students paying high tuition fees into university coffers could dry up.
So I don't doubt they have leverage and they could use it against us.
Like I said before this was simply not worth getting involved in as it was a made in America problem
Trudeau should have just hired ex deputy Liberal deputy Prime Minister John Manley to handle the situation & our country wouldn't be in this mess right now

Why the hell would Chinese real estate owners deliberately take a hit on their own investment. Chinese with money want to get their assets out of China.
I have no faith in Trudeau to do what's right and ban Huawei from our 5G networks.

Fuck China.
Big on threat, small on action.
Their financial clout on the West is a double edged sword. Without Western investment and purchases, their economy tanks.

Huawei is an extension of China's totalitarian government. I think we know how their state media mouthpieces will spin this.

And the bullying from Beijing continues.

CHINA HAS A BEEF WITH CANADA
Puts the squeeze on Canadian exports
Canadian beef exports to China grew from $9 million last March to $48 million.
As the world marks the 30th anniversary of Tiananmen Square, China is doing another crackdown.
This time it is against Canada — all because we won't give in to China's demands we abandon our rule of law.
Beef exports are the latest casualty as they try to make the Trudeau government come to heel.
Thankfully, the PM and his team so far haven't given in.
China has long been annoyed with Canada under Justin Trudeau — beyond the detention of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou last December.
Despite Trudeau's admiration for China — and even its basic dictatorship — President Xi Jinping has expressed annoyance at Trudeau for some time.
The battle is about much more than Meng, more than Huawei — it's about China's attempt to become the global power.
They arrested Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig on trumped up charges, boosted the drug sentence of Robert Schellenberg from 15 years to death.
Add to that the economic measures.
In the last few months, China has targeted Canadian exports of canola, peas and pork
— and now beef.
Canadian beef exports to China grew from $9 million last March to $48 million.
They are now our third-largest market for pork and beef, and among our top customers for canola and pulse crops.
It's more than a trade spat, it's a power play.
Meng is due back in court Thursday as part of the extradition process, and China is hoping the political pressure will lead to a judicial solution.
Trudeau had maintained politics don't enter into Canadian judicial decisions, but then the Snc-lavalin happened.
China has been trying to squeeze key Canadian industries in the hopes Trudeau will bend, I have to say that thankfully he has not.
John Masswohl of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association says his members may be wary about shipping products to China given the current situation.
Millions of dollars of product are already "on the water" en route to China.
Former Conservative agriculture minister Gerry Ritz said that while this is part of a larger fight, the Trudeau government hasn't put forward Canada's position clearly, and beef won't be the last product targeted by China.
"They have gone done the list from canola to peas to pork to beef," Ritz said.
If Canada gives in now, then who knows what China will target next?
Will the judiciary heed Meng's lawyers advice.
