A Chinese and Malaysian crime syndicate has been smashed after their illegal workers trade ring was undone.

Australian Border Force raided a Robinvale property in Victoria's north and discovered 17 people crammed inside a house on February 13.

A 16-year-old boy was among five people who slept on mattresses in the garage of the property.

Up to 12 other people were living inside the house.

ABF Commander of Field Operations James Copeman described the discovery as disturbing.

'We suspect that deceitful and immoral labour hire intermediaries operating in the agricultural sector have been exploiting this minor and other illegal workers in the Robinvale area,' commander Copeman told The Herald Sun.

'Illegal workers are extremely vulnerable and are often underpaid and poorly treated.

'To have 17 people crammed into a house and garage on one property is a graphic example of that.'

We had a similar case in BC, but with East Indian labourers.

Not now, but Israel used to have a problem with trafficked illegal labor from China.

One time there was a documentary about Qatar world cup slaves https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/sep/25/revealed-qatars-world-cup-slaves

They keep the workers passports and won't let them go home.

Slavery and trading slaves is alive and well and not discussed very much.

The one thing that seemed to curtail illegal foreign labor in Israel was harsh penalties for employers who hire them.

Russia under that traitor Putin is a borderless country. Foreign labor has driven low wages even lower.

No one obeys laws in Australia, they just avoid being caught.

What punishment can the people who employed them expect?

Probably soft. Hopefully the criminal ring will be deported.

I watch traffic cop shows where people are pulled over and drug and alcohol tested. It's quite scary how many drunk, drugged and unlicenced bastards are behind the wheel. It scares me so much. I pray before I get in the car to make me aware of bad drivers.

Most of our Indians and those of that region are gaming the uni student rules and working a 50/50 over-under the table job at small businesses, factories, cleaning companies, and 7/11 franchises while barely turning up to their minimum uni classes or not at all.

I've met numerous like that. The honest ones will openly say so.

They are private enrolments, after all.

South African friend of mine has the Indian students living with him bunking in the bedrooms and the loungroom. He is collecting rent from the Indian students then sending it home to SA to his widowed mother in SA. That's how she survives old age in SA because they don't have pensions for old white people.

Quite pricey too as international students though the income outweighs the fees which their families pool together for.

Our temporary foreign worker program(TFW) can be abused by unscrupulous employers.

HALIFAX — a judge has handed down a two-year prison sentence to a Halifax businessman who exploited foreign workers, saying he wanted to send a wider message to employers across the country.

nova Scotia Supreme court Justice Glen Mcdougall, who delivered his ruling Friday, said people who bring temporary foreign workers to Canada "should not dare" to follow the example of hector Mantolino.

"The Temporary Foreign Workers Program is not a licence to attract hard-working nationals from other countries so they can be brought to Canada to be taken advantage of," he said.

"This is not what Canada is about. This is not what Canadians stand for."

Mantolino, originally from the Philippines, pleaded guilty in december 2017 to misrepresentation under provisions of the Immigration and refugee Protection act.

The owner of several cleaning and maintenance companies, Mantolino used the temporary foreign worker program to bring 28 workers to canada from the Philippines.

According to a statement of agreed facts, Mantolino paid them at least $500,000 less than their total reported salaries.

Mantolino was originally charged in June 2013 with 56 counts of immigration fraud following a canada Border Services agency investigation, but those charges were rolled into a single indictment.

He was alleged to have counselled the workers to lie about their wages if they wanted to remain in canada, with some saying they had stated they would receive a canadian wage but were paid as little as $3.13 per hour after various deductions.

Mcdougall said the aggravating circumstances in the case were significant.

"I am satisfied that Mr. Mantolino was in a position of trust in relation to the 28 temporary foreign workers.

He abused that position and although there is no evidence he actually profited from the exploitation of these workers, he stood to gain by making his company more competitive and hence more profitable in the workplace.

I remember the previous government made changes that made it difficult to bring in foreign workers....so much so employers in some service industries were complaining they couldn't find employees..

I know the Liberals made changes, but it seems some tightening of rules to protect Canadian jobs and the rights of TFW's.

TFW visas should only be issued in the most extreme cases where it is impossible to find local labour. Seasonal agriculture for example. And the visas that are issued should be six months maximum duration with no shortcut to landed immigrant status.

Employers like TFW's because they can't quit.....their visa is tied to their job.
