Is marriage a big deal to you? Are you brainwashed into believing you have to get married? Do you view marriage as success?
I dont care for the idea of being married and I personally dont view being married as being successful (mostly by image) as the divorce rate is so high and many marriages have their bumps.
Your thoughts or opinions?
Marriage has no relationship to success.
It is only related to happiness.
Marriage is a contractual state of mind, unless either party seeks to break it legally.
For me it was a lifetime commitment. Picked the right one the first time. A major hobby we both enjoyed played a big part in staying together. In 5 days it will be 35 years married and 37 years together. In fact our anniversary will be celebrated with son, grand daughter, a long time friend (59 years) and his fiance on a fishing trip. House rented for 4 nights. Should be a great time.
And a 37 year hobby collection...17 went in the garbage and this was left...put the bin out the night before garbage day and in the morning there were only 3 left. Rod and reel repair guy is going to be happy to see me walk into his shop. Costs $25 per reel to clean plus any parts needed. Gonna be a nice job for him. Probably have 10 or more that need to be cleaned, but at $200+ each for new ones it will pay to clean and repair. Course I am not counting the 6 boats we have owned over the years.

It seems there is very little incentive for men to get married in Canada anymore.
Men have very few rights in this country & if the marriage falls apart they pay through the nose and they often lose everything. I've known quite a few men this has happened to in Canada.
If I were really interested in this path, I'd avoid getting married in this country, go somewhere else, but leave my toys & possessions at home so in the event the marriage somewhere else didnt work out, then the other person couldn't take them or clean out my bank account.
I am not married myself, but both of my sisters are married with kids. One is in a terrific marriage to one hell of a good man. My younger sister is in a miserable situation. Her husband is a dick.

I've been married twice. I have a twenty eight year old son from my first old lady. My new old lady is nearly twelve years younger than me, educated, a good lay and makes a shit pot full of money.
If one can, try not to be pessimistic about marriage. Truly, one does not know anything about anything until one has gone through it. It works for some and it does not work for some. To the fortunate ones, it is a very fulfilling experience. I suggest that one keep an open mind.
One of my friends is in his 60s and he's still paying alimony or child support.
A religious man with several children he told me he got thrown out of his house one night after he was accused of assaulting his wife. He said it was not true and I believe him.
Anyways his ex wife took him to court & managed to rig it so he got all the blame.
He lost his home his possessions and access to his kids.
And then she nailed him with unending child support which he'll pay right to the grave Im afraud.
This got me thinking the marriage contract is unfair in Canada.
If the marriage fails its often the man who gets the blame and pays everything
The trouble with these overzealous feminists is they think they're getting back for past abuses but truth be known, most men arent and never were the top 1%ers.
That was always a myth. And now the divorced man is supposed to provide for his ex Like he is a Hollywood movie star.
The syatem in Canada stinks and needs an overhaul.
Even Christine Blatchford of the right wing national post agrees.
Shes rather Conservative herself and been divorced a number of times
But she sez the system is heavily weighted against the man in Canada

And the thing is to avoid sweeping statements about marriage..
When you find your soulmate, it's terrific, but a bad or even worse, abusive relationship beyond terrible.
In addition to my friend being heavily penalized, he also had his passport taken away from him because he was considered a flight risk & he had his drivers license taken away from him after his ex wife caught wind that I found him a decent paying driving job. So he cant even make a living with his professional driver license because his fucking bitch had ot taken away from him. Now hes been reduced to taking the bus to temp jobs and a chunk off those earnings still go to guess what - his fucking ex. She really wants to make him suffer and our courts and laws wnable her sadistic behavior and sinister motives
After seeing what my poor friend went through, Im convinced that Canada must have the most punitive divorces laws in the planet for men & that they excessively favor the women.
I'm married and we have one daughter. It works well for us.

I've decided that I'm a confirmed old bachelor & at least in Canada, would rather remain that way.
https://youtu.be/iQGH9zereFc
I've seen my friends and relatives dragged into the divorce pit by avaricious spouses who've taken advantage of them by using unfair marriage laws to trap & destroy them. And since I may be coming into a substantial inheritance in the near future I don't wanna throw it away on someone who might steal it from me.
Canada is in a minority of nations around the world which require a man to pay and pay and fucking pay til death do us part even if he doesn't fuck or sleep with them anymore. I have friends in that situation. In other countries a man can just get rid of them, or at least if he's paid them off he doesn't keep paying for eternity. There's no such thing in many countries as financial support for single moms. Canadian men have been brainwashed to believe that the marriage laws in Canada are like that everywhere else but they are not.

Like I wouldnt mind a 2nd passport fron a first tier EU country, eh BT?
I hear some nations, you get it and you automatically receive 2 pensions and 2 sets of social benefits just by obtaining that 2nd passport
Plus I wouldn't wanna marry anybody if they couldn't get a good job cuz I don't wanna support them.
Ive seen lazy ass wives who sit around the house all day waiting for the hubby to bring home the bacon.
No lazy useless wife fer me ta support BT.

All men are bastards.
Find a good looking one and bonk your brains out.
Do NOT waste your youth. Squirrel as much money away when you're young so you are independent at middle and old age.
Everyone has a talent... be that singing, dancing, art, craft.... don't neglect areas that make you happy doing something artistic.
My sister joined a weaving class. She just made this and showed me today.

okay
Yknow there's a woman I worked with who after 40 years of marriage she decided she had enough & decided ta dump him.
But when I asked her why, then she said he worked hard, was a good provider, was a loving father to his children & grandchildren. She said he never abused her physically & never cheated. He worked many late nights put in serious overtime at which their children would stay up late to see daddy come home. She just didn't love him anymore, didn't like what she felt was being in a subservient role to him. Even her children felt he was hard done by & sympathized with him. And this was an account of their marriage told by her not the husband.
And when they divorced they sold the family home for a million and she got half. He also gave her his RRSPs or retirement savings fund. Thing is she broke the contract & decided to dump him. Now if anyone decides they're gonna break a contract unilaterally against the partners wishes, do they deserve ANYTHING?!? And she wouldn't have gotten this wealth had it not been for her husband. She had a grade 12 education and certainly didn't have the ability to make a professional income to afford that home.
This reminds me of an episode on TV of a reality show 90 day fiance where this guy got this woman from Russia then immediately after he brought her to America she wanted a divorce and half his assets.
https://youtu.be/yglx5ZSLtrU
Some of these women think they deserve all this money for being poor wives. Like gimme a break. But that's what the system does in Canada & the States. It enabled shark spouses to gouge their significant others. And if Im not mistaken even women have been the victim of these schemes when they were the breadwinner & had all the money.
So this is clearly a system which is in need of a massive overhaul & a bug change.
Deadbeat spouses shouldn't get anything if they were poor marriage partners and they decide to break a contract for frivolous reasons.
Why is Joe posting in a marriage thread. Sixty year old broke ass incels have no business giving opinions on relationships with the opposite sex.

Watching these american wedding shows..
The women seem to be really demanding and the guys just succumb to that.
Like, if he doesnt buy her the ring she wants, the wedding is off..
It seems to work similar in every american dating/wedding show.
Or... If you dont buy the house she wants, she is quitting the relationship.
Is this the norm or is it just Hollywood?
I know men who had children in their 50s & 60s & most of them hate it.
Or else they're just trying to make the beat of it.
One friend I tried to help out had a daughter at 54. He cant take it. He's cracking up and according to his gf busted the tv in a fit of rage & got ibto a violent fight with her.
Another guy he's 75 & still trying to work for a living.
He has a 12 year old son from a previous marriage
When I last saw them together he was screaming at the kid.
Actually the guy is such an old father he's old enough to be the boy's grandfather.
Cripes he's a lot older than Bricktop who's already a grandfather.
Another guy I worked with he's 67 same age as BT and he's still working to support a teenage daughter who's still in high school.
Point being, there's an age when a guy shouldn't be starting a family.
Ir else theres a good chance he'll go to the grave before he has a chance to see his child grow up
And they'll have to work til they drop dead.

Also, if you believe that "unending" child support goes right to the grave, you're experiencing some difficulty in making your own thoughts clear to yourself. No surprise there, I guess.
As for the topic at hand, I never married. Marriage (or the lack thereof) was a key component in the dissolution of our relationship when my ex and I broke up. She wanted to get married for what I thought were all the wrong reasons and I was never the marrying type (and she already knew this many years before we hooked up).
I've been single for over five years now. And I like it. She married an American two years ago and is now living in the U.S.

20th Century, why?
The prices seem so low.

How often did you receive that amount?
I received $20 once...
and $25 the second time. Total $45 for 18 years.

Not for 1976... $20 was a whole weeks shopping.

That's what I meant..
It seemed so long ago at those prices.
Inflation is way out of control.
A top of the range house + land in a well-to-do suburb was $150,000, 33 years ago... now the same place is anywhere between $900,000 - $1,000,000
So the shack across the road from me sold for, $33,000, (early 1980s) then $52,000, (mid 80s) then $90,000 (late 80s) and that lady in there now could get over $600,000 now. And that price really just is for her block of land. Her house is really just a restored shack. Someone would tear it down and put a double brick 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms on it.

Real estate is over priced across most of Canada too.

my rent on my appartment in Bicton was $27 a week in 1976. I had a reduced rent because I was given the caretakers job otherwise I'd have paid $37 for rent.

Darwin is tropical... It's hot all year round BUT there is a huge difference. 6 months of extreme humidity where you are never dry...(that's their summer).
the other 6 months are hot and dry... that is winter there now.
Most people can take dry heat...
hot and humid, not so much.

What if you end up with a violent woman...
You cant defend yourself because if you punch her, you go to jail..
And then she divorces you and takes half your stuff..
You are not supposed to kill her..
Then she goes to Oprah and tells everybody that she was in an abusive relationship..
