I didn't think they had prizes that small.
Does anyone buy scratch and win tickets?
You mean the ones where the odds of winning are around 8 million to one?
No.

No.
I thought the odds of winning a smaller prize were greater with scratch and win..
I never buy any kind of lottery tickets though.

There are scratch tickets that range from one buck to thirty bucks in price. A guy from a nearby town won twenty five grand last year on one of them.

They are.
The odds of winning the 6/49 jackpot are 14 some odd million to 1.

Your odds are even worse for winning Lotto Max. For $5, you buying a one in 28,633,528 chance at winning at least $15 million.
Those odds are so long that you are more likely to:
Be killed in a terrorist attack while travelling (1 in 650,000).
Die — during an average lifetime — of flesh-eating disease (1 in one million).
Be killed by lightning (1 in 56,439).
You are three times more likely to be killed in a traffic accident driving 16 kilometres to buy your ticket than winning the jackpot.
Trust the numbers man to put things in perspective. ac_biggrin

But, my husband's company has a pool that buys thirty tickets each week.
Contributing to the Canadian economy. That's awesome.
When the government started dealing in lotteries, they used to call them "voluntary taxes."
I better not hear one single lottery ticket buyer complain about over-taxation. Ever.

I have no choice about the provincial, and federal income taxes I pay. Same with payroll taxes. But, purchasing lottery tickets is a choice. If you are saying that we should be allowed to choose how much income and payroll taxes we pay or not pay at all, i like your idea.

Make all taxation voluntary like tips. We will get a lot better bang for our buck.
As a socialist, I don't complain about paying taxes. But, our denmocracy is dysfunctional and so the idiots we elect spend our money dysfunctionally.
I too won five bucks one time. However, my proudest win ever was a contest in my fitness center. It was called "Around The World." You add the time and distance on any machine you worked on. After you have done your work, you see the attendant and report your progress. He/she will move your pin around the globe to mark how far you have come. I was the champion and I won a gift certificate to Tower Records in Washington, DC. It is not there now. That was back in the day when we still had record stores. They had a great selection. I bought CDs though.

I don't know. I didn't live in Canada then. I know Tower Records from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Israel and London, UK.

Tower Records was in Taiwan too.
I remember HMV, but not Tower.

Hey, I thought you said you weren't going to post here and on VF anymore. You get polluted on another lonely Saturday and you're back here and on VF too. Quit the booze and you can easily quit both forums.
By the way, the owner of VF should shut down that sub forum you hide out at. It takes traffic away from the main VF board.

Ideally, all these little forums should merge.
