The Amazon produces twenty per cent of the world's oxygen, but now it's producing carbon, smog and ash..
Although less than half the fires are in Brazil, the international community is using these fires to attack Brazil's populist president..
I don't want to quote any of that, but it does have an affect on climate change because the Amazon is one of the world's biggest carbon sinks.
Amazonia and its trees are a significant source for oxygen, and major sink for absorbing carbon dioxide. The process of photosynthesis is important for life on Earth and all of those trees in the Amazon are deterrents to the growing problem of increased greenhouse gases. It is too early to determine how much carbon will be released because of current Amazon fires

Indonesia, Brazil, and Australia have much to answer for.
I have more on this topic.

On land, our very worse tragedy is taking down virgin forest. It is so bad these days, protecting the environment is a matter of life and death.

Enviro activists have blood on their hands too. And they are backed by international money. I wouldn't be surprised if they started some of the fires.

The world has turned to shit and no one has the answers.... well, they do have the answers but no one will implement them.
They need to run a campaign in the west and get as many people to plants trees and/or large shrubs in their yards and they need to do it YESTERDAY...

I understand, but the Amazon is so important to our planet..
It's in South America, but the entire world has a stake in it's survival.
In the absence of human activities, the Amazon rainforest would be CO2 and Oxygen neutral. That is, neither a source nor sink of CO2.
How do we know this? Because the amount of carbon in a stable rainforest doesn't change (by the definition of stable), so therefore it cannot change the net amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The carbon has to go somewhere.
These days, with human involvement, the Amazon is a net contributor to atmospheric CO2. Because we are chopping down and burning the jungle; the total amount of carbon in the Amazon rainforest is decreasing, and most of that will immediately or very soon become oxidised into CO2.
This idea that rainforests, jungles etc convert more CO2 into oxygen than they convert oxygen into CO2 is simply wrong. Stable forests and jungles do not accumulate carbon; the rate at which new trees grow and convert CO2 into Oxygen is exactly the same as the rate at which old tries die, fall over, rot and convert the carbon in their wood back into CO2.
If Google makes this claim, they are either completely wrong, or their claim is not as written.
Scientists believe that phytoplankton contribute between 50 to 85 percent of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere. - https://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do-oceans-add-to-worlds-oxygen
Precisely.
Trees are not "lungs" of the earth.
That is not to diminish their importance to the ecology of the planet, but the concept that without trees there would be no oxygen is simply erroneous.
C02 is plant food.
Over the past four decades, forests have moderated climate change by absorbing about one-quarter of the carbon emitted by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and the changing of land uses. Carbon uptake by forests reduces the rate at which carbon accumulates in the atmosphere and thus reduces the rate at which climate change occurs.

Trees attract rain... no trees, no rain, widening deserts...
Even if tomorrow us humans completely stop fossil fuel burning we would still have this disaster in front of us BECAUSE they have reduced virgin forest GLOBALLY by 85% and active volcanos are spewing out mega tonnes of CO2.... you cannot take out 85% of the forests globally and expect that won't have an effect.

Alright then...
At least the "20% oxygen" myth seems to be debunked.
Before anything I wanna say that I support protecting the Amazon entirely, but bullshit is bullshit.
Have you people tried to look at the deforestation rates? They have been falling constantly in the last years. This year is being no exception.
Now, let's go to the truth.
1 - This year is being a little drier than the others. And this is also the dry season in the Amazon basin. EVERY YEAR, August and September have more fires in that region.
2 - Most of the land that is burning is grazing land that rested during winter and unfortunately, those fuckers are too lazy and greedy to use the right methods to clean the weeds and tall grass.
3 - Now that the truth is coming up on who was making big cash on the Amazon, they are literally going down on a "blaze of glory". Of course this part is being ignored by your media and mostly here too. But they're already found social media groups that basically scheduled big burns RIGHT after Germany and Norway cut the funding to the Amazon NGOs. They used the excuse that it was because of Bolsonaro's policy, but truth to the fact, the place always had the SAME problem every year. And the fact that both countries are recessions should be a pretty good clue too.
4 - Where was the outrage when a couple years ago, a Norwegian company caused a major spill of toxic aluminum mining in the middle of the Amazon, where was the outage? Where was the anger? All the liberal media? Did you people know that these countries have MAJOR mining operations in the Amazon. At least trees grow back, but how do you fix poisoned land and rivers?
https://www.tnp.no/norway/panorama/toxic-waste-from-norwegian-hydro-amazon-water-brazil
And Caskur, you have a big mouth to say Bolsonaro should eat a sniper bullet, but where was your outrage when consortium including a company from YOUR COUNTRY had one of their dams break, killing 19 and destroying entire rivers IN MY STATE, including the one in which I grew up swimming and fishing when I was a kid? Did you get all upset and eco-terrorist too?
http://webdoc.france24.com/brazil-dam-mining-disaster-mariana/
The NGOs burned a lot of fires to create photo ops when they lost the cash from Norway and Germany and you have to be pretty stupid to not see that. They are also going to lose a lot of illegal concessions that were given to them by the previous leftist administrations, so this is far from over yet.
But that weak pussy faggot Macron opening his cock gobbling mouth to say he was going to send troops to the Amazon, ah, my friend, French people will do good in staying away from here from now on.
And instead of talking shit about carbon sinks, clean your own fucking messes instead of using us as a fucking filter. We pollute A LOT LESS than you.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention his real intentions behind his crusade against Brazil too.
South America and the EU signed a free-trade agreement this year and the french are TERRIFIED of what will happen to their heavily subsidized farms when the influx of cheaper food hits their markets.
The FIRST thing Macron suggested was cancelling the agreement to sanction Brazil, but Merkel and the rest simply said "nah".
The numbers are pretty much telling a different story and all the news outlets here that tried to pass a whole lot of fake news here have already retracted, including Rede Globo, leader of the liberal media onslaught against he current government.
There's a lot of lies going back and forth and Bolsonaro definitely went too lax on his environmental policies and even I disagreed on that, but I knew that the pressure would make him change his mind and he did. The army is already there putting the fires down and much of the burning is dying out with the rains. One "forgotten" effect of the fires is that they tend to increase the rain because of all the particles in suspension and the high humidity of the area.
He knows the economical potential of the forest but he also knows that Brazil needs it as intact as possible.

Bolsonaro was too aligned with the cattle ranchers and grain producers from the region, but most of his voters want the Amazon intact.
We knew this was going to come up eventually and it did. And the pressure made him change and he saw that he would lose too much support.
He'll expel the foreign interests and useless NGOs from there, but apparently, he's keeping the projects that had positive results in the past.

Not the foreign ones, the ones from Brazil.
Amazon has been a mess for 6 or 7 decades now. There's a lot of treasure there, one tree alone might be worth more than those people could make in years by doing the traditional sustainable work they try to push around there, which is basically gathering of some of the fruit and nuts, non-predatory fishing and whatever.
In theory, no one's supposed to cut one single tree without authorization, you can't shoot an animal except for those like the invasive hogs.
But then, you have a green hell that's bigger than you can imagine. When I flew over it, the feeling is that it'll never end, hours flying over nothing but trees and rivers.
So you're gonna have thousands of illegal logging operations, huge trucks carrying one single tree that is worth tens of thousands of dollars overseas are common sight on the illegal roads. From there they cross the border or put in some ship in the river and from there, anywhere in the world.
You have the farms, which border reserves and many times, they can't enforce the property lines.
It's always the same problem here. Not enough people to enforce the laws, way too many thieves and mercenaries.

It's like the illegal trade in animal parts. As long as there's a market for exotic animals in China, the world population of tigers, rhinos, elephants and sharks will continue to decline.

Amazon fires are not exactly burning 'Earth's lungs,' experts say (//https)
1. Shanan Peters, a geologist at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, imagined what would happen if we burned every forest, blade of grass, bacteria and bird on Earth -- basically everything except humans -- in a presentation slide at a scientific convention in June.
""After such a catastrophic scenario, the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere dropped from 20.9 percent to 20.4 percent, acording to The Atlantic.""
"Virtually no change," Peters said. "Generations of humans would live out their lives, breathing the air around them, probably struggling to find food, but not worried about their next breath."
Although the fires pose a danger to the massively biodiverse area, some experts are now offering another view, saying they do not threaten the planet's oxygen supply.
2. According to Scott Denning, professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University, most of the oxygen that gets produced by photosynthesis each year is consumed by fires and living organisms, with trees shedding dead leaves and twigs that in turn end up feeding insects and microbes.
""Forest plants produce lots of oxygen, and forest microbes consume a lot of oxygen. As a result, net production of oxygen by forests — and indeed, all land plants — is very close to zero,"" Denning explained on Tuesday in a Scientific American essay

They are still going to say the fires threaten the world's oxygen and it's Bolsonaro's fault.

I saw a panel of "experts" on CBC two days ago saying the exact opposite.
One thing they keep saying, it would be hard to destroy the Amazon. And if left alone, it will be close to original state in 50 years. You can cut, but there's always more forest ahead. And the thing is, forests grow back. With the help of man, it could be even faster.
And the place is so wet, fires don't burn. The forest is so dense and think, only the low bushes and grasses burn.
And then there's the heavy downpours almost year round.
There's so much misinformation and bullshit coming from the media, it's beyond disgusting.
Leftism and everything associated with it is a fucking cancer that grows on lies, deceit and scumbaggery.

If you start talking about punishing them for shit like this, they accuse you of censorship
Just like this garbage, look:

They don't even care, screw the sources, screw checking them, just run the damn thing and if it doesn't hold water, make a little retraction and prepare the next lie
And one thing I tell, this is getting tiresome. In Brazil, Globo Network, the biggest national media conglomerate over here, their news reporters are constantly being assaulted on the streets, people cursing on them.
People are getting sick of it all, they are starting to see over the bullshit and lies. They see one thing on the TV and then they see someone presenting them real data on the Internet. They create something an when you check older sources, none of it is true, just like the wildfire charts I posted.
Damn, I remember it myself, 2002, they lost more that year than ever but because that scumbag Lula was in charge, people said nothing.

CALGARY HERALD: G7 leaders slander Brazil based on fake news trending on Twitter
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/corbella-g7-leaders-slander-brazil-based-on-fake-news-trending-on-twitter
Back in November 1991 Toronto Sun photo journalist Stan Behal and I travelled around Brazil cataloguing the threat to the Amazon rain forest from a host of stressors, most notably poverty, ranching, freelance gold mining, mining of other minerals, subsistence agriculture, large-scale agriculture, forestry and forest fires.
The narrative back then was that the "lungs of the world are burning!" Sound familiar?
"The lungs of the Earth are in flames," wrote actor Leonardo DiCaprio on Instagram last Thursday.
"The Amazon rain forest — the lungs which produce 20 per cent of our planet's oxygen — is on fire," tweeted French President Emanuel Macron, on the same day.
The Twittersphere was ablaze with concern for Mother Earth's lungs and afire with stinging criticism of Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro, blaming him, almost entirely, for the destruction.
Political posturing aside, how accurate is the alarm expressed by Macron, the other G7 leaders, DiCaprio, Madonna and others?
The New York Times looked into the matter.
The photo Macron and DiCaprio shared is apparently more than 20 years old. The photo Madonna shared is more than 30. Other celebrities shared photos of forests burning in India and Sweden.
-----
Michael Shellenberger — a Time Magazine "Hero of the Environment" — published a compelling piece Monday in Forbes magazine debunking Macron, DiCaprio and the G7.
"I was curious to hear what one of the world's leading Amazon forest experts, Dan Nepstad, had to say about the 'lungs' claim," writes Shellenberger.
"'It's bullshit,'" Nepstad said. "'There's no science behind that. The Amazon produces a lot of oxygen but it uses the same amount of oxygen through respiration so it's a wash.'"
In the 16-page report I wrote in January 1992, entitled Paradise Lost: Brazil's disappearing rain forest," experts predicted that the world's largest rainforest, fed by the world's largest river and home to the world's richest and most diverse ecosystem "could altogether disappear by the middle of the next century if the present rate of destruction continues."
Thankfully, that dire prediction from 27 years ago isn't expected to materialize — not even close. About 20 per cent of the Amazon forest has been cut down or burned and the rate of destruction has slowed considerably. In other words, 80 per cent of the Amazon forest remains intact.
Surprise, Surprise!! .. None of these facts were mentioned by our world's leaders.
Those who fell for it all, don't feel alone, the "brilliant" :eyebrow: Macron and our child leader also glommed on and were also suckered by lowlife hollywood egotistic attention whoring nothings
... then picked up and amplified by most of a press that o longer produces news, rather produces ONLY agenda
Earthslungs makes a cute little hashtag.
Fires are raging in the Bolivian rainforest too. Why aren't international progs blaming that country's leadership.

So humans need to stop over-populating the planet.
And they MUST completely cease ripping up any more virgin forest.
And they better start cleaning their plastic pollution IMMEDIATELY.
Anyway... it's too late. It has gone past the point of no return.

People need to think ahead.... that hasn't anything to do with "progs" but they most likely will be the ones fixing things like they've always had to do...

Well, there was another thread (//https) on that exact subject. The goal isn't actually to lower GHG's, but to see how much they can tax the shit out of us and how much of our freedoms they they take before the people stop the buck. France had some riots and macron has tanked in the polls, australia refused to elect a government promising more of that, referrendums in the u.s reject carbon taxes, and sock boy here in Canada is trying his best to ram more carbon taxes in, and onlyt being propped up by the idiots in montreal and Toronto, because the moronic pollsters are oversampling there. it is going to be one hell of a shock to these pollsters when it is another CPC majority because the people outside of the GTA and montreal want the idiot gone.

I have not seen one poll that shows the Tories would win a majority government. That could change though now that climate Barbie has let the cat out of the bag about her plan to increase the carbon tax above $50 per tonne.

It's not stupidity. It is happening. Your generation needs to catch up...
The 80's are long gone!~
The "solutions" the billionaire progs propose are not stupid to them. They make a shit pot full of money off of wind, solar and biofuel scams.
The people that cry the most about climate change are the ones who make the problem worse. There are easy, cost effective ways to lower the amount of C02 we release into the atmosphere. I'm not convinced it will stop the climate from changing, but it can be done without robbing us blind.
No body knows how our conservatives libs got in... they wouldn't get in if they weren't tied to the Nationals.
We have a lunatic running the country who thinks "praying" is going to solve our problems.
He can pray all he wants. That's his biz. Our out touch idiot pm raises taxes, increases deficits and kills our resource sector.
Well, having advantages like healthcare and education and pensions and unemployment payments cost lots of money... so it's either having a first world lifestyle or go back to the medieval times.

Governments get money from taxing.
The trick is to scrutinize their spending and make sure the taxes are appropriated correctly.

People who are really sick should keep their colds and flus at home....even mild ones.
It might be a mild cold or flu to workers but passed to the elderly, the infirm or babies can be lethal.
If people take sickies and have long weekends... ac_dunno In the grand scheme of things is nothing compared to conservative politicians using $5,000 of tax payer dollars for helicopter rides to money raising events for their own political parties and that is exactly what they do. They are disgusting lazy slobs with their snouts in the trough. I have nothing but disdain and contempt for politicians. And if people think there are actually two sides, left and right, they've been completely conned.

Only Conservative politicians waste taxpayers money?
Our pm flies his entourage of sycophants with him and a fleet of limos for them where ever he goes..
But, back to civil servants abusing sick days, it costs the public billions of dollars and many are surplus employees anyway..
We will eventually vote out Trudeau, we can't vote out entitled civil servants.
The same argument can be used on every worker smoking and/or drinking eventually end up with sicknesses needing hospitals costing tax payers millions or billions of $ later on in life... We all have to pay for someone's lung cancer. That sought of thing.
There is no real left or right government... there is only government.
When one side is in and decides to write up a bill, the only time it is passed is when BOTH sides agree...
When the right says, lets raise retirement age from 65 to 67, the left have to vote for it to, or doesn't pass.
In Australia, foreigners who become Aussie citizens end up running the joint...

And I work for the provincial civil service.

Yes, from time to time they close unnecessary departments.

We're on the list because my Mother-in-law is a registered nurse and a leftie... I inherited her phone number so they ring me now. I used to answer their questions and they didn't get a leftie response and would act shocked. Now I just hung up and these days, the speaker is an auto-questioner.

As long as flights are not down and depending on what they do, they can always get another low paying airline industry job. Most jobs in that industry are not mortgage payingjobs.

How much money does the Canadian Government save with a volunteer services?
Including all benefits, salary and a defined benefit pension plan, i would say they would save tens of billions by cutting the civil service without affecting front line services. They did it in the 90's and were able to eliminate the deficit and lower taxes. But, since then governments have been buying public sector union votes again by hiring unnecessary civil servants.
