Title: I'm bored.
Post by: Bricktop on September 02, 2019, 08:05:59 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHgwF4q6P3A

Maybe I'm getting too old.

But forum engagement is losing its appeal to me lately. I derive little pleasure from participation.

It's not about the Cashew...I've dipped my toe in a couple of others recently and felt the same. I feel like I should find a better use of my time.

Whilst I would regard the vast majority of members here as friends in varying degrees, the interaction seems forced and habitual rather than interesting and vibrant. It's the same everywhere.

Perhaps it's time to accept that after all these years the appeal just isn't there any more.

i feel your pain Brick. I was excited about forums again a few months ago and even registered at another forum, like I said I would never do. It quickly lost it's appeal. There are threads I enjoy here and SG, but most don't appeal to me anymore.

It's nothing against the people. I'm just getting bored. Maybe another break is what I need.

I'm sorry to hear that Shen and Brick..

I still enjoy coming here to talk with posters.

I get what SL and old Brick are saying. I was on four forums. I recently trimmed that down to two. My interest in forums comes and goes.

I thought about joining VF at one time, but I it's so bad I can't even stand to glance at it.

I'll continue to post here for now. But, I do not want to join any of the competing forums. Like BT said, it's not the answer to boredom.

There are several finnish forums that have thousands of active members..

If the media tries to hide the rapists skincolour, then murderinfo is the place to go..

Murderinfo had the murder video before the murder even happened.

I was even considering that too. But as you've observed it's no answer.

It's been nearly five years here, and nearly 25,000 posts. Wow.

I guess every social interaction grows tired. Forums. Marriage. Girlfriends. Friendships. Clubs and associations.

Also, it's been winter here and too cold to get out and about, so I'm also pretty confined. It just turned spring, so I need to motivate myself to pack the camera and get out in the world again.

I get what Bricktop is saying. Since my credentials were recognized in Canada, and I became a foreman, I just do not have the time to post like I used to. And the limited amount of free time I have, my little girl comes first.

Just a hypothesis, but if memory serves things were a little more vibrant here when we had a more diverse cross section of opinions and socio-political views. We've become homogenised to some extent because those with alternate views to the majority move away for various reasons.

When we had some intelligent debates, it was interesting and engaging. Most of the members now hold a consistent view on many things, and those that don't are not really motivated to engage in debate.

We perhaps need to open the doors a little wider and offer a more open forum where disparate views are welcomed.

Just a thought...

I think I'm referring to diversity of intelligent discourse, not a diversity of intellectual capacity. There are some out there with a brain who are quite capable of throwing out alternative opinions using reason and logic. But because we are clearly hostile to their personal beliefs, there is no incentive to join in. We are widely accepted as a right of centre political forum.

I don't think that will change any time soon. Any left of centre views are usually shot down...and I own up to having my finger on the trigger as often as anyone.

But the consequence is a sense of unanimity...and where's the fun in that?

This is why I left VF. I liked debating with leftists like mimi, but Scouse and Seamajor don't know how to do  that.

I would welcome opposing view points.

There is no fun in that. But, maybe leftists don't want to post here. Maybe they don't want to be the lone dissenting voice. Perhaps Peaches would post more if there was a fellow leftist.

All I know with certainty, is that I would welcome a reasoned left wing poster who did not engage in discussion killing name calling.

We will only attract alternative thinkers by being less rambunctious towards them.

There is a lack of diversity of opinion on this forum..

i agree with you 100%. I have no problem respectfully disagreeing with anyone. I think the lefties ran off because they can't stand the voices of the right that they were facing day in and day out. It's not our fault they can't stand to read our conservative views or being challenged or not agreeing with their views. I thought they were supposed to be the tolerant lot, eh? Such snowflakes. I have no sympathy for the ones who fled. You don't like what you're hearing or reading so you take off? What cowards. We are better off meeting posters who are mature and who can withstand opposing views.

My remarks were more in the context of forum activity...and as I said, being cooped up in the cold weather doesn't help. Someone just described it to me as "forum burnout" and I think that is a very accurate description.

Brick, warm weather if finally upon you, so time to shake the winter boredom. I dont blame you one bit if you slacked off some on here. Get some things done, and log in when you feel like it and kick a tire or two. The rest of us are about to go into winter mode, so Im sure there will be an uptake in posting from some of us.

Im on several forums, and post when I can. I have too much going on to really be bored. Im more bored at work lol, hence my uptake in daytime posting.

I can see why you would be extra bored, since you are retired. When I was unemployed for a spell, I was bored out of my mind! You need to find things to fill your time. Its not too late to pick up an instrument, or learn anything really. I get bored if Im in a routine, so I change it up now and then. Change things up Brick  ac_drinks

Less than an hour away in Shawsville.

The story to the naming of the place, a Confederate Naval man by the name of Stiles was trying to impress how good he could swing from mast to mast, by swinging vine to vine and branch. When he grabbed a branch, it broke, and he fell to his death.

The story to the naming of the place, a Confederate Naval man by the name of Stiles was trying to impress how good he could swing from mast to mast, by swinging vine to vine and branch. When he grabbed a branch, it broke, and he fell to his death.

just stop doing bad things... just stop.

They eat ground squirrels. They dig huge holes to get at them. My cattle and the old lady's horse could step in it and break their legs. Besides, they have gotten into my chicken coop and killed dozens of them. I see badgers, they die.

Quote from: "Bricktop"Just a hypothesis, but if memory serves things were a little more vibrant here when we had a more diverse cross section of opinions and socio-political views.

I have been saying this for a couple of years.

We've become sedentary and staid. We're stuck in a rut, in my view, and the only difference between a rut and the grave is the depth of the hole.

We've either repelled or rejected people who stood on their beliefs, whether we agreed or not. I respected Romero and Scouse not for their views but for their commitment to them.

I suspect many here would argue strenuously for freedom of speech. It is a core belief.

Yet are we not, as a collective, as culpable as those on the left we decry for stifling that right to speak your mind without fear or favour?

Our uniformity has, as with all uniformity, become tedium. We've become fixated on bird photos and barrel wash.

We're no different to other forums...and that is our mistake. We SHOULD be different. We should not be like Cindys Been Tripping. We should not be like SG (with no disrespect to either of those two venues). We should attract new faces because we are DIFFERENT, not because we are the SAME.

And being different means embracing all views and all kinds of people. We've become monochrome in a world of colour, and it serves us no benefit.

Exactly...but MY principles on gun control are not the forum's principles on gun control. They are mine. And mine alone if I read the contrary posts correctly.

But were I of, shall we say, meaker disposition, then finding no support for my position and being constantly dogpiled when I raise the issue, I may be inclined to take my business elsewhere.

On the other hand, my position generates posts and views and much discussion. That is a GOOD thing. Nobody agrees with me, but that is not important. I will continue to raise awareness of this insanity and everyone is free to ignore my threads. But they don't because they want to have their say.

Posters like yourself or Gaon are not going to fake a contrarian position just to make a poster with differing opinions feel welcome.

Glad you noticed that, Fash, but what does that say about the others?

If I say I am here and willing to listen to the other side and I do but the response I get is a series of mud-slinging and name-calling prattle, do you really think that I would just sit still and be quiet? The only time I am quiet is if I firmly believe the other poster does not deserve a response from me or they are too delusional I cannot be bothered to waste time to correct them because everyone can see they are the ones making a fool of themselves.

As I've said before, I truly miss the days when conservatives and liberals argued but were still friends after the argument has concluded. Those days seem to be of a bygone era now.

It seems to me that Bricktop is just expressing his own views about the forum which some of us do not share. I am fine the way it is but I am not here 24/7/365 and I have never been a mod. Perhaps when you mod and when you own the forum, you see it differently. I come here as a participant only but of course I also would like to see a healthy forum since this is the only forum I go to.

I also respect the opinions of others that differ from mine. I never wanted them gone for good. We could still discuss the topic and disagree and come back here the next day. What's wrong with that? Things change when the conflict becomes personal for one of the posters or both.

No.

As a mod Rotwang must act in the best interests of the forum, not his own personal views.

This forum is not served by people banned from other forums bringing their feuds here and exposing private and personal details of each other's lives.

The reason they conduct themselves in this way here is because they have been stopped from doing it elsewhere.

Having been involved in forums as member, mod and Admin for many years, Rotwang recognised the early warning signs of conduct that inevitably leads to more serious consequences for ALL members and acted accordingly.

We can be different without surrendering our principles. I am a liberty loving, fiscal hawk. I will defend those principles against anyone. If someone is incapable of defending their position, that is their problem, not mine. They are free to leave, but I would prefer they stay and stand up for what they believe in.

   Best post.

There is something to what you and Seoul are saying..

You both have strong opinions..

And you should be able to express them even if people may disagree..

Debate comes from disagreements.

A healthy debate is healthy.
