Title: Vancouver bus strike
Post by: Superchecker on November 22, 2019, 08:19:05 AM
Hi gang. Metro Vancouver's bus drivers, mechanics and SeaBus employees are searching for a new contract.

Union is seeking wage parity with Toronto drivers.

Drivers stopped wearing uniforms Nov 1. Mechanics and SeaBus staff have refused overtime since Nov 1.

Drivers refusing overtime Nov 18; 20 & 22. Like 300+ trips cancelled.

Full work stoppage planned for next Wed, Thur and Fri.

West Vancouver blue buses will still operate.

SkyTrain workers are still negotiating at this time

https://alerts.translink.ca/#Bus lists cancelled trips in route order.

Should I pick up random strangers on my way to work during this shutdown of transit buses? Every morning I drive pass the long lineup of people waiting for the 99 B-Line. So much people waiting for the bus. Imagine no bus.

That is weird. The union and the employer reach an agreement without telling the members.

The president of Unifor, and our two local bargaining committees sat down with TransLink /CMBC company negotiators for over ten hours, hammered out a "tentative agreement". This averted a full three day shutdown.

Now, next Thursday, 5000 union members will learn the details of the tentative agreement, and actually vote on whether to accept or turn it down.

Until then, full service resumes and all job action since Nov 1 stops.

2% raise retroactive to April 1; another 1% raise immediately.

3% raise next April 1; 3% raise the following April 1.

Improved benefits, language around washroom breaks. Can bank and have access to more banked overtime days.

No concessions

Improved wages and benefits for mini bus bus drivers too

Consider yourself lucky. Not many hourly workers are get nine percent over three years. It's actually more than nine per cent over the life of the contract.

TransLink does the planning and the funding of the regions transit system and major road network.

Coast Mountain bus company is an operating subsidiary, that operates the SeaBus and about 98% of the regions buses.

BCRTC is a subsidiary, that operates the Expo and Millennium line SkyTrain lines.

West Coast Express is contracted to operate the commuter rail line

Transit Police is another subsidiary

HandyDART is contracted out

West Vancouver blue bus is separate

Canada line is separate

About a dozen community shuttle bus routes are contracted out

Quote from: "Skippy"I hate busses so I don't care, I took the seabus to North vancouver once and then took a bus to Grouse Mountain, it was a horrible experience

Really? I enjoyed it. Grouse Mountain is incredible, eh?

Do you like Vancouver?

Yes, I do. I do not like the depressed areas. I don't like going to areas where there's a lot of hobos like some parts of downtown.

I have to get to the left coast someday. I have transited through Vancouver airport, but I never saw the city. I hear Victoria is arguably  Canada's most beautiful city.

What specifically do you like about Vancouver? it does nothing for me, but no Canadian city does.

It is very beautiful here. Only locals bitch about the place. Australians they come here and have the most wonderful time of their life. I've met an Australian couple on the sky to sky gondola. They were mind blown on how beautiful the mountains and lakes were. People who live here they go to Stanley Park and think it's boring. Stanley Park was named the second most beautiful park in the world. That is a true wonder.

Yes it is... Plays no factor in my thinking that Canada is a beautiful country..

In fact.. The only thing that would worry me is the fact that the grizzlies seem to be numerous and running rampant in the populated neighborhoods..
