Title: Now there's Ants...
Post by: Anonymous on January 07, 2020, 03:00:55 AM
...running all over my god damned kitchen counter.

They appeared more recently.  I don't have much out to attract them.

I am quickly losing any love for this house.  I want to fix it up now, hopefully sell for a minimal loss, buy a nice piece of property in the area, and have a trailer home delivered to live on.  Some trailer trash homes are actually quite nice, and when they're brand new I can keep it that way.

This is no laughing matter!

This place has been a nightmare that has been fighting me every step of the way for the last couple months.  I love the area, but hate this fucking house.  I am not skilled enough to do a complete reno.

Just get some decent ant bait, silly. It'll cost about $80 (might be cheaper where you live)

I am quickly losing any love for this house.  I want to fix it up now, hopefully sell for a minimal loss, buy a nice piece of property in the area, and have a trailer home delivered to live on.  Some trailer trash homes are actually quite nice, and when they're brand new I can keep it that way.

Mobil homes are under rated. Seriously.

Have you tried lemon essentail oil? Ant traps?  They work.

Yes V-Agent, come back do. It has been so long since we had a good old chuckle about Caskunt's pretense of selling "art" at four times the pricepoint of H.R. Giger's Landscape XX, only to presumably defraud the Australian Tax Office by not declaring any of her income!  :evilthoughts2:

No, they don't... you have to kill the Queen.... the baits kill the Queen because the workers carry the bait back to her.

The oil will repel more bugs from setting up shop in his house.

I ran into town today, to get products that will fight off the illegal immigration of ants into a home that they're not welcomed in.

So far, they don't seem to like my kitchen area as much as they did, so it is working.  It had taken them a few hours to "learn" that they don't want to come here anymore, so we'll see what happens over time...

One must always be vigilant, and protect borders always!

They cannot be permitted to feel welcomed in a place they don't belong in.

The entire kitchen is being gutted sometime this month (hopefully), as I have a custom kitchen builder building my shit right now.

When the time comes for me to tear this shit out, I will have a better idea as to what needs to be done!

Since I have no children or pets, and am not a tree hugger either, I am not adverse to using any means/chemicals necessary to handle the problem once and for all!

What you bought up there is supermarket grade. What I was talking about you buying was Pest Control guy grade.

You might see your ants return within a month.

Ants are a huge problem where I live in Perth Western Australia...

We pissfarted around with supermarket grade ant riders for a few years until someone told  me to go get some professional grade ant killer at the hardware store.

We took their advice .

It worked.

Something to think about if you stay where you are for a good length of time.

DDT would solve this problem instantly.  Wish I could access some!

That said, ants will usually only enter a home if there's something there to attract them.  These older cupboards probably have bits of shit in them that ants like, and they seem to like the sink also...

That all gets ripped out soon.

In Canada, we are stuck with what we can buy at the store, unless you have a Pesticide licence, which you generally only can get if you are actually employed in that field.

That said, even those chemicals are weak.  DDT was just fine, and it worked!

Is there any chemical available now that even compares to what DDT offered?

Look, I smoke while I'm refueling, and don't give a fuck about climate change BS.

Lead had it's purposes, and wasn't as bad as made out.

Neither was asbestos.

I also drink water that is sourced from my own personal well!

So I know what's up...  I drink the same water that I pour my shit into, literally.

I want my DDT!

My daughter is in Australia right now.  Her actor boyfriend is from there and they went back during his break from shooting a tv series in England to visit his family while she is on break from film school.  Don't get me started... that child should be at Columbia Law and I get to endure my family asking me "but what is his real job" while I show them photos of her at Sundance and red carpet events....

Good thing you don't live in Arsetrayya, the tree huggers have those poor bastards bent over a barrel while smoke is blown up every available orifice!

No, really. The Greens there managed to stop controlled back burning during the cooler months in the name of conservation and had vast sections of bush designated as carbon sinks because Climate Change. One firefighter even got fined $100,000 of their monopolybux for clearing a firebreak about his house, which strangely enough was the ONLY house in the area to survive the bushfires when they swept through recently.

What a bunch of fucking wankers! Conservation turns half the countryside and its wildlife to ash and boiling puddles of fat while firestorms rage to furious heights, causing their own weather systems in the process. Hey, I know how we can save the environment; harpoon a greenie a day!

Mix 1 part borax with 2 parts sugar. Put it somewhere under a cupboard, where the ants will find it.

It's the same effective chemicals as many bait traps use. They'll be excited by the sugar, and carry the borax to their nest, where it will kill the colony.

Some ants aren't after sugar, and prefer protein. If the ants don't go for the sugar mixture, try peanut butter instead.

British Columbians seem to know how to deal with ants..

They've never been a problem in our house, my mother's house, or my mother in law's house.

Now that I'm tearing the entire fucking kitchen out, I'll deal with those little fuckers as need be!

Look at all the grease and shit behind where the range exhaust fan was!  Most homeowners don't dig into there.

I remember seeing fortifications to the stumps of a house out the back of Surfers Paradise that were aimed at reducing a termite problem the house owners were having. I'm trying to remember the exact specifics (and drawing a blank) though I do remember the issue was with the ants gaining access to the house via the stumps. To that end, brick retaining walls of about a metre square were constructed in key areas, filled in with rocks and possibly other things which inhibited ant traffic to the stumps themselves.

Point is that even with an interior that is squeaky clean and spick and span, you can still find yourself with problems that require aggressive (and sometimes costly) solutions. Good luck in your quest, but do seek out a professional or three and see if they can't give you a few ideas on what else you can do as well.

Oh, and while I think of it, grab yourself some Diatomaceous Earth and leave a few small piles of it in areas where you know the ants to be trafficking. You might think of it as a kind of eco-friendly DDT, the particles are small enough to work their way into the joints of a good many insects (including ants) and dessicates them with none of the chemical residue that made DDT such a pain in the ass for larger organisms. Still not recommended for use around pets though, but as long as you are careful where you put it, you can make life terribly difficult for your six legged friends and their relatives.

I've never had a problem with insects either. Plenty of methods for dealing with them at my disposal. Same goes for other pests, you just need to know their kryptonite and Bob's yer auntie.

I remember with a lot of fondness a time when I was hanging out at a guitarist friend's place not too far from where Freud is living now. This guy was a total eco-nut, which struck me as kinda strange because he had previously been a punk rocker of some local renown in the late seventies. He also drove a Volvo and couldn't understand why people automatically made fun of his driving skills because of it.

Anyway, one night when it had been raining heavily and the slugs were out, I wandered into the kitchen to make a coffee. Turned on the light, there's at least half a dozen gastropods sliming their way across the food prep areas, one of them was making its way over the lip of the coffee mug I was intending to drink my coffee from. Disgusting fuckers. I immediately reached for the table salt and started sprinkling it liberally on them, smiling as every last one of them started screaming. Just not as loud as Me Ex-Punk-rocker was freaking out when he wandered in to see what was going on. Apparently the slugs were God's Creatures or something, to which I pointed at the lush, wet vegetation outside and inquired "did he kick them out of Eden then?" Jesus, from the rate he was carrying on, I half suspected he wanted to gather them all up and wrap them about his wizened rod so he might spunk all the salt off them or something. The guy was a freak.
