Title: Had to buy a snow blower today...
Post by: Anonymous on January 11, 2020, 02:00:12 AM
Had no choice, really...  The snow is piling up here in my yard, and while that's not so much of a problem for my F150, I have some trades coming Monday.  I know what they drive, and their 1-Ton cube van would not be able to navigate this driveway as it was.

Went with Ariens.  Not the cheapest, but it seems to work well!  Hopefully it'll be reliable.

It was actually enjoyable watching the snow get blown 50 feet away!  I don't mind doing the outdoor type stuff like this, but I'm less enthusiastic about the 'indoor' work that I'm also needing to do here also...

We have a snow blower and a leaf blower we use for our walks, but I don't know who makes either of them..

That's my husband's department.

Is your driveway that long?  I thought you lived in the 'burbs!

No, I live in Bowness in NW Calgary..

Our driveway is two cars wide and not very long.

I thought so...  That must be short trip for the snow blower!

My driveway is almost 300 feet long.  I held off for as long as I could, but simply had to buckle and pay for a machine...

Yes, it is..

But, my husband has to do the sidewalk in front of our house too.

That's true.  The sidewalk is the homeowners responsibility in this Province too.

Luckily there's no sidewalks where I moved to, so I don't have to bother with that...  No sidewalks, no pedestrians, no bike lanes, no bicyclists...

I have always laughed at people who use leaf blowers no matter how big or large the yard. Why harm the planet using dirty energy for something so light and easy to rake up. I feel embarrassed for those who use them.

I always laugh at girly men who don't know what a two stroke engine is or that they don't make them for the Canadian market anymore.

When I was a poor highschool student I had a four stroke Honda xl I saved for. It was reliable. It had light and mirrors and was street legal. Got me to work or wherever I wanted to go. All of my friends had 2 strokes. YZs and CRs. I would hit the mountains with them but I got left in the dust on straight stretches when their power bands kicked in.

A friend left a three wheeler at my mom's house when he moved to Ontario. Said I can use it. Still there. He has never been back as far as I know.

British Columbia here is set for coldest temperatures this century. It's nothing compared to Calgary but so cold here right now.

Sorry I enjoy ribbing you at mmb. I usually post things that are too ridiculous to be believable. I figured they might bring the two forums closer. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

That is a common excuse used by parents that don't want to support their child's ambitions.

My parents were the same, even though I saved up my own money delivering papers in shit weather for a year, and still wouldn't let me own my dirt ride.

"No place to ride" equals parents too fucking lazy to accommodate the sport for their children, plain and simple.

My son plays sports Mel..

But, we live in a city of 1.4 million people and there is no place to ride in this city..

When he's old enough to drive, than we can think about an ATV.

Common excuse, Fash.  I have heard it all before...

You KNOW there are areas to ride ORV's likely 30 minutes or less away.  Not the best, but legally rideable...

Don't try to fool Mel...

Mel likes to ride ORV, so I know.  I'm sure you'd rather have him in school getting educated, which is fine.

Nonetheless, don't ever try to claim "there isn't anywhere to ride"...

There are always places to ride ORV!

BEHOLD!

Little trailers that any car (or truck) can tow are fairly cheap.  They can handle a couple of bikes, and can also handle yard waste and shit!

Plenty of cars at the Ootishenia dump pulling a little trailer...

NO EXCUSE!

I'm 5' 11" and weigh 165 lbs, so I'm pretty average for a white goy!

I actually traded in my Harley for the YZ250 just before I moved here.  Around my new home, a dirtbike will be more useful than my Harley!  There's tons of beautiful areas to ride only minutes away.  Real Alpine shit around here.

The highways around here would make me nervous on my Harley...  I have already witnessed one collision with an Elk crossing the road, and have seen two other close calls also in my short time here.  An Elk/Deer/Moose and a Harley colliding at 100 km/h would not be pretty...

I´ve noticed that pattern...

More and more females are over 6 foot tall and guys are as tall as me or taller.

But I´ve noticed a more concerning pattern..

The 20 something dudes are as childish and unreliable as we were in junior high..

These guys are adults but they cannot even be trusted to drive the company car..

The flying spaghetti monster?

Yeah. I first encountered tales of it when I was trying to determine how many people had listed "Jedi" as their religion on the US census. Had me in stitches for close to six hours just reading up on it.

Put it this way; you've heard doubtless heard of the efforts of some US groups trying to shoehorn the teachings of "intelligent design" into biology classes? Because "equal time for God vs the evolution question"? Well one guy demanded if they were going to do that, then equal time must also be granted for unintelligent design. He created a bunch of tales loosely based off stories in the christian bible (along with a variety of other religious texts) about a flying lump of spaghetti noodles and meatballs roaming the cosmos and worshipped by people called Pastafarians. Their holiest of prophets are pirates, making September 19 the holiest day on the calendar. When you die, if you get to heaven, you'll find beer volcanoes and stripper factories. You'll also find those in hell too, but the beer is flat and the strippers all have VD. It's gained a fair bit of traction over the years, even though it is quite an obvious pisstake on religions, people have nonetheless argued successfully for considerations like wearing ceremonial headdress in their DMV photos for example. Collanders, to be precise. I swear you can't make this shit up!

But I imagine you have to be wondering right about now why this has come up in conjunction with the increasing height of successive generations. Simply put, gravity is pur bunkum. The real reason we aren't all floating off into space is due to his Noodly Appendages touching each and every one of us on the tops of our heads. As our population has grown however, there's proportionately less wime that any given appendage can tap you on the head, therefore every successive generation if growing taller due to this fact.

All bullshit of course, but fuck is it funny. And fleshed out way more than rival pseudo-religions like The Church of The Invisible Pink Unicorn for example.
