I don't know LotusBud very well, certainly not as well as does Peaches. This being said, though, her vehemence (not to say fiery passion) when it comes to such things strikes me as being more the product of a sharp mind frustrated by the lack of nuanced political discussion on the internet than it is of a need to hold an unwavering position on issues that matter to her.
Social media platforms (including discussion forums) are populated with people already polarized on, and divided over, the issue of sane governance. We all know this. It's the main reason I don't discuss politics on the internet. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who does is a wingnut or a moonbat. Potentially, at any rate.
No, I've had a few--admittedly, very few--opportunities to engage with Lotus in quieter moments, when she's not being besieged or dogpiled by a mob of rabid groupthinkers, and I have to say I found her to be smart, funny, and charming. Yes. Smart. Funny. And charming. These are benchmarks for me in my choice to continue engaging with someone who nevertheless otherwise remains a stranger met online.
Yes, Lotus can rage and rant. This is the internet. Who doesn't? Especially when confronted with antagonists and even mere naysayers? But Lotus is about more than simple (and simplified) political views and more than about theatrical personality conflicts with online personas; she's a pleasure to shoot the shit with when it comes to literature, science, psychology, spirituality, and a myriad other subjects and themes which, especially on a flame board, may only be of interest to me (and, quite obviously, to her).
Now, I know that some of the folks I enjoy, both here and elsewhere, don't much like her. I also know that she doesn't much like some folks it would be easy for me to call friends. So? So what? I ain't the boss of anyone. And that's how you do the internet like a boss.
