In 1971, while driving through an automatic car wash (the ones with the rotating brushes), George Ballas came up with the idea of inventing a string trimmer.
He called it the Weed Eater, and after some refinements, tried to find willing investors for his device. All of them refused.
So he decided to just develop and sell the thing himself. First year sales were over a half million dollars.
By 1977 sales were $80,000,000.
He sold the company in 1978.
This is him, holding the can with lines attached that proved to him that his idea could work.
That can ended up making him a very, very wealthy man...

I guess "interesting" isn't the first epithet that comes to mind when I consider the story of A Man And His Can.

Too bad the inventor couldn't teach idiots who use it to stop ring-barking trees hence killing them.

True, but that's not the fault of the company...
I have a Husky chainsaw that I use quite often, since this shithole that I bought was somewhat neglected...
I have to rip down some trees and limbs, and I do...
Common sense!
Stupid men cannot help themselves denuding our environment...

Greenies are the worst. Demanding that trees be designated carbon sinks and fining the shit out of people who chop them down in the name of forest management...
...and complaining "fake news" when despite their best bleeding heart efforts, the whole lot goes up in so much smoke, people half a world away are breathing it.
Yay?

I have Applewood that needed to be trimmed back (some branches were starting to contact the house itself).
I would've loved to see you handle this with a handsaw... :icon_wink:
Some people (like me) live in an area where trees grow, and they must be handled by the homeowner...
LOL at you thinking I don't have trees that "grow"... Puh-leeze. Imma tree hugger!~

Native to Brazil, they are called Jacaranda.
Melbourne, Perth and Cape Town have mature trees with amazing displays.
They start flowering in November.

That is a nice example. It seems to me that Rancid has also posted pics of jacarandas, but perhaps not here.
Speaking of him, is he on strike or did he just forget to pay his internet provider?

I thought I saw one of his posts the last time I logged in at SG.
Old Peachie Poohz gets more senile with every post, at this stage involuntary euthanasia would be the most humane treatment for the elderly gent.
He can leave his extensive buttplug collection and selection of vintage VHS gay pornos to his nearest local LGBT charity.

I can't actually view pics posted by registered users, since I'm a second class citizen, but I'll take your word for it that you have trees...
I have trees also. This pic was taken from my back door (First tree is about 20 feet away). My back property line extends to roughly where I marked it in pic... It's Crown Land beyond that.
So, I have trees. Lots of trees. All around me. And some of them grow rather quickly.
I won't neglect the property, as the previous owners somewhat did... If I need to bust out the chainsaw, which I do here, I don't feel bad.
Rural living in Canada may be different than in Oz. Where I live now, most people own a chainsaw, and know how to use one!
We cut wood here, burn wood here, and it also heats many homes here when burnt (Carbon Neutral)...

We cut wood here, burn wood here, and it also heats many homes here when burnt (Carbon Neutral)...
The carbon dioxide released when burning wood (about 1900g CO2 for each 1000g of wood burnt) is balanced by the fact that this carbon was taken up by the tree from the air when it grew. So this part of the emissions is carbon-neutral. However, many other chemicals are produced when wood is burnt, including one of the most potent greenhouse gases, nitrogen dioxide; although the amounts may be small (200 g of CO2 equivalent per kg of wood burnt), the gas is 300 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide and lasts 120 years in the atmosphere.
Methane is also produced (70 g of CO2 equivalent per kg of wood) – 21 times more potent than CO2.

Your tree roots stop erosion.
Look at my trees when you sign out.
Some trees must stay, but some need to be trimmed back! They'll start taking over just like Africans in Europe if you don't keep 'em in check.
I can drive onto Crown Land and find some trees there to cut if I need to get decent wood for burning in the stove! Will do that once a bit more of the snow melts...

Seems that way... The left are often takers: If they're not on welfare, they often work for an entity that is government (taxpayer) funded in one way or another.
