Title: if one gets back the consciousness with memory lost
Post by: jaysings on September 25, 2013, 01:16:47 AM
A grown person gets back the consciousness with memory lost after having involved in a severe car collision. The question is that will this person forget the second language he/she learned in secondary school?

Neurocognitive functions can be restored after swelling goes down, but I don't believe a blow to the head can restore long term memory loss.

no, I didn't mean that a blow to the head can restore the lost memory, but I questioned that will loss of memory negatively influence the second language a person learnt in secondary school.

I'm wondering if losing the second language is a part of the memory which is lost after one suffered from a severe car collision. it makes sense for some reasons because we have to memorize anything while learning a new language.

Vocabulary loss and communication deficits may result.

There is no right or wrong answer for that question.  Anything is possible.

Speaking from personal experience of having a brain injury, yes it is completely possible and it does happen. For me, I've lost the memory of some words at certain times during conversations.  I had brain surgery 8 years ago. I had completed courses in bookkeeping, accounting, spreadsheets, English Literature, all when I went to College in my 20's. Much of that is gone :-(  I've also lost many memories, good and bad. I'm missing pieces of my childhood and early adulthood. It can be very frustrating. Lucky for me my hubby knows my whole life story and often reminds me and tries to jog my memory.  And I always took lots of pictures of our kids, so that helps too.  Regaining your memory is very hard :-(

Holy fuck Annie, I never knew that about you?? I am very, very sorry to hear this. You sure have a good cheerful attitude despite it.

Do you mind if I ask if it was medical or was it due to trauma?

It was a brain tumor called a pituitary adenoma that grew so quickly that my doctor didn't realize and it almost killed me.  I found out about it 3 months after my Dad died of brain cancer. We went on a trip to Disney World shortly after I found out but hubby and I kept it under wraps till after our trip. We didn't want to ruin it for the kids.  It wasn't till after we got back that we realized it had grown and my brain was swelling.  I do try to stay positive because I wasn't supposed to make it or at the least I should of been a vegetable from all the swelling and damage.  I am very lucky and greatful to be alive.   I have come across people since then have been supportive but also people who can be so mean.  I've had people ask me if I'm this stupid in real life. I've been called "dumb" and been accused of riding the disability system when they think I should be working. I also have a degenerative bone and muscle disease that's not only painful every day but limits me from doing so many thing because I don't want to break any more bones, especially my back and hip again :-(

My father suffered a severe blow to the head a while ago and he thought he still had young children.

The weird part was that he said my sister and I were born in the 19th century.

He is almost completely normal except he is more loving and relaxed now.

I fight it every day, and do exercises like yoga and stretching and swimming, hot tub. Some days are better than others while some days I can't or just don't want to even get out of bed. But if I give up and don't fight this, I will be in a wheel chair soon and that would just suck. I find the opinions and judgement of others to hurt more.  Just being alive is alright :-)

yes. brain is probably a most powerful organ in a human body. I often think that a blow may awakes one's supernatural power which is potential all along

Oh I know, I have to be super careful. I'm hearing impaired and I have cataracts, which is slowly blinding me. My balance and depth perception are bad from the tumor. I've smashed my head on a locker at the pool and slipped in the shower and smashed my face on the tub last year. I'm such a clutze, a few months ago I almost chopped my thumb off. When my eyes get too bad I'll be having surgery for artificial corneas, I can't wait!

I was supposing that I was very unlucky until I heard Ms. annie's story

some people are suffering worst from either physical or mental torment out there, so we don't have an excuse to give up fighting on account of those people's volition for survive.

I never knew Annie had to endure so much pain both physical and emotional in her life. She is indeed one tough as nails broad.

she is perhaps toughest on the forum

Yep, I have always, always liked Annie, but now she has my total respect.

Quote from: "Annie"Thanks Fash, I have to be positive, I'm very thankful. My hubby, daughter and I have all had many life threatening things happens, and we're all still here :-) Hubby just had his entire large intestine removed to cure his cancer, my daughter has liver, kidney and heart disease, has had about a dozen surgeries, she survived massive internal bleeding, and 2 cardiac arrests. Thank goodness our son is healthy.

That´s pretty bad...

All my injuries have been caused by some external factor.

Oh noo I'm not that tough, if you only knew how many times I get frustrated, want to just give up, runaway, cry, get drunker than a skunk. I'm not sure if my inner pain is worse than the pain others cause me on a regular basis. The other day I was called "dumb" again online and it really hurts because people just don't care :-( I hardly go anywhere by myself only because I know someone will throw a personal attack for being "dumb". It's a good thing I'm not a violent person, I'm sure I would of snapped a long time ago.

That is terrible Ms. Annie.

 :(

I don't know why anyone would say such cruel things to my new friend.

undergoing painful, tormented experiences will cause people to be sentimental and hysteric somehow. trolls always leave venomous comments to elicit wrath from the targets they chase, and your emotional vulnerableness is exactly what they utilize for making fun of u

Oh I know but I tend to not say anything back anymore and just bite my tongue. I hate fighting and I hate arguing. I'm the kind of person when an argument comes up I run away and hide.  I also let it bother me too much when I should really just let it go and not worry. I don't understand why some people have to be so mean and hurtful just because they can. My new saying is "I hate people" LoL.

I lack that kind of restraint Annie. Talking with middle aged trolls and narcissistic old wind bags on VF no longer appeals to me.

A long while back when Gordy Gambino first started in on me I snapped and told him to f off    After that I felt like an idiot for letting it get to me, since then he's been quite a bit nicer to me  :)

Yeah, because I never noticed him teasing you? He was actually one of the least annoying trolls. CC has several trolls nipping at her heels. EU, Gay Bob and Dean/Worried Wilbur/punctuation guy come to mind.

Ya, there's a few of em over there wreaking havoc and insulting others for no reason. They did a real number on Real Woman, she did not deserve what they did to her.

What did they do to RW? I thought it was a personal beef with Ves? I know you like Ves, but she is quite immature and nasty to those people she dislikes(which is everyone who doesn't buy her ideological horseshit).

A bunch of people there trashed RW and called her names after she announced she was diagnosed with a life altering medical condition. They called her all sorts of names and claimed she was "lying". I know she wasn't, she and I have messaged each other a few times for support. They deeply hurt her, that's why she left. A lot of it was sent to her private message, which only makes them a coward for doing so :-(

Annie, I will tell you, I am aware of RW's medical problem. I know how much it can bother you when someone calls you a liar. That troll JOE calls me a man ffs?? Some troll who hides behind many proxies and handles wrecked it for me. Similar trolls ruined it for RW. I don't understand why CC sticks around considering all the trolling she is the recipient of.
