What Jewish holidays do any non-Jews celebrate in the US?

In the regions of the country with lots of Mexican-Americans, it's celebrated.  Both by those with Mexican heritage and those that don't have it.

I don't know about the US, but I celebrated my Jew dentist's kid's bar mitzvah when I lived in Australia. Hey, who am I to turn my nose up at Manischewitz.

It commemorates the battle, yes.  It's not a holiday in Mexico.  Not even in Puebla.  Not even a parade.

A big day for a Jewish boy. But, old Herman would light a menorah for Hanukkah for some Manischewitz.

Lighting a menorah for Hannukah? It sure as hell don't make me Jewish. Hell, I've partied with EI's on Diwali, Irish on St Paddy's and Vietnamese during Lunar(Tet) when I was younger. A party is a party.

No, we were discussing a bar mitzvah.  It's not a holiday.  It is an important day for a Jewish boy.

Lots of people in the West celebrate other ethnic holidays, I don't see that as problematic whatsoever.  I never said it was.

What you don't know is that Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that was promoted by beer companies in the US to sell beer to the growing population of Americans and Mexican immigrants.

It was supposed to be amusing in general, but you folks made it tedious, like you do everything else.  You're wet blankets and don't seem to know fun if it sits on your faces.

Halloween, Valentine's/White Day and Easter are promoted by confectioners. Major sporting events by brewing companies. I have never tipped a few for Cinco. I just post goofy memes for it.

You can search all the major cities in the US as well as many in other countries and you will find Cinco de Mayo being celebrated. If there is even a hint of a reason to party, people will party. We will wait till tomorrow to "celebrate" since most places will be at their 25% capacity all night long tonight. In other words....our normal Mexican food and margarita date night.

Why are Americans celebrating a cactus monkey festivity that even Mexicans aren't?

Seems odd... like Americans celebrating St Patty's day in a parallel universe where the Irish don't.

I know the truth though, it actually is the day that Mexicans joined forces with the Confederates, to kick the asses of the Yankee scum, and won. Thus they celebrated with tacos and tequila. True story

I was raised by people who did not party much and did not get drunk so it is not surprising that I too do not party like the folks who party for Cinco de Mayo and get drunk. I will not be found in these kinds of crowds. Nothing wrong with partying and getting drunk for those who do enjoy these. I'm just saying I'm not found in these types of festivals and do not seek to be in them either. It seems too rowdy for my liking.

I'm just saying I'm not found in these types of festivals and do not seek to be in them either. It seems too rowdy for my liking.

That would make sense with the older Filipino generations... 40+

(Not so much for the younger ones anymore....)

Younger Filipinos drink more?

I've found that to be true.

Filipino men of all ages like their liquor. That has been what I have seen from their army of overseas workers.

I believe South Koreans consume the most alcohol among Asian countries if you exclude Mongolia..

I know Seoul enjoys beverages that contain alcohol.

No. I would not bunch them all in one basket. I know many in their late 20s who are very much driven and into their careers and would not sit on the lap of a married man. They are up and coming scientists, virologists (one is working with her peers to study COVID-19 to better understand this virus), doctors, dentists, marine biologists, pastors, lawyers, radiologists, marketing analysts, etcetera. Try not to generalize people especially those who are hard working people who have one common goal and that is to help improve the lives of their families and provide them with better opportunities. That is the plight of the Filipino worker even if it means he/she has to work 3 jobs.

I observed this growing up in the Philippines. Even if a person could not afford a bottle of alcohol, do you know that he/she only has to go to the men and womenfolk in the countryside and have some of that "Tubâ." It is made from the coconut tree or palm tree. Yet, no one in my kinship did that. There was an overwhelming desire to have clarity of mind at all times.

Without question. Filipinos, like other races, have their good and bad apples. Surely though, you notice how there are a lot of them out there working.

One friend has a very young daughter who is now a lawyer. She just graduated from law school. I'm so happy for them. Another young girl just graduated from high school and she is going to pursue medicine. I'm so excited for these young people. The world is their oyster.
