Just by chance, since I was happening to pay attention to the side of the road at the right moment. The area is remote, and not many people would recreate here.
I can find no reference to it, even utilizing my internet Kung Fu. Pulling up a map published by the BC government in 1940 doesn't show anything either, although there are other mines listed in the area.
Of course I didn't bring my camera... Will go back another day and snap a few pics.

You should buy this mine. You can haul the ore with your truck. You could smelt the ore in your backyard.
At least he'd be working.
Lemon Creek is where we interned the Japanese. Maybe Mel should build an internment camp. ac_smile :rules: :rules:

That's right! Lots of Japs sent to various camps around the area here, but not many stayed... They left when they were free again it seems, ensuring Whiteness once again!
When the West goes to war with China, I wonder if we'll round up the Chinks and intern them also?
Time to build camps!
Maybe it was an escape tunnel back to Japan, Mel.
You should follow it and get some fresh Sashimi and Unagi.

I walked to the end (I carry a flashlight for emergencies)... Just the opening (well hidden), and then an unlocked steel door halfway through, and then the end!
Could be a good shelter, if it's got steel doors, no sign of degradation, and not on a map....

It could be an excellent shelter! The door can only be locked/unlocked from the outside though, so that would obviously have to be changed...

The cost would be ventilation/purification... testing for radon....

It's not a long drift mine shaft... Less than 100 feet long. Ventilation may be an issue, and radon might be also... Only a meter could verify air quality.
On the plus side, the creek is nearby. That water can be consumed, most likely without even boiling it!
I'll go back tomorrow and take some pics!
I went 4x4ing in the outskirts of Greenwood about 20 years ago...it was fuckin fascinating...little lakes of different colors, old abandonded mines everywhere, log cabins that are rotted to the base along with old tins and bottles probably from early 1900s....its just a memory now...I wonder how much it has changed since then?
The sites were beautiful and amazing! Bring supplies and pack properly for that area...bring a shot gun too.

Greenwood is the ultimate example of small town... Having traveled through there recently, I doubt much has changed. Their street signs are unique, in that they use the "Wild West" font on them...

Runoff from old mines can carry toxic levels of heavy metals and things like mercury...
There are towns in Tasmania that can't drink their own water anymore decades after mining operations ceased...

Canada is a bit different though... We have water, and lots of it, which gets replenished every winter by snow... Any toxins of old would've been flushed down the river decades ago!
Took this pic just down the road... I would not hesitate to drink this water if I was thirsty.

Only when you have to shovel snow, does this equate to pure mountain melt offs in the Spring/Summer.

Cranbrook woman filmed in racist rant gets job back after being dismissed
Jun 22, 2018 2:13 PM
LETHBRIDGE — It appears the Cranbrook, B.C. woman who lost her job at a vehicle dealership in that city because of her racist rant at Denny's in Lethbridge, may have her job back.
Kelly Pocha was let go from her position at Cranbrook Dodge after her racist video rant went viral on social media in May.
The incident happened on April 21, while Pocha and her husband were visiting from Cranbrook, where they live. One of the men targeted in the rant recorded the incident on his cell phone and later released it on social media, where it took off like wildfire.

Rag-heads loudly babbling in their ridiculous language is what set her off. No upstanding Canadian white woman should have to put up with that nonsense while she's trying to eat. The third world scum should have been deported to their home country where they could crouch around a dung fire in loincloths and converse in their monkey language to their heart's content. Want to come to Canada? Learn the fucking language before you arrive and then use it politely while you're here.

I want to make it clear just how remote these places are... I roll solo. There is no cell service here. You are on your own.
You watch the mile-markers on the road, as that's how far you'll have to walk back to find a phone, and you make a mental note of this. There are NO other people in these areas, even on long summer weekends like this one...
If you break down, there are no other 4-wheelers that will drive by. They don't exist there. You walk out or you're dead.
It's hard to explain this feeling to people that can easily call in help! Here, you cannot...

I'm not sure what you are trying to imply, but I stand by my statement. I'm not knocking Tasmania, as it seems like a beautiful place, but you cannot compare Tasmania and Canada when it comes to snow packs.
Not uncommon for mountains here to top 10,000 ft ASL. Tasmania tops out at half that. On top of that, Tasmania has higher Winter temps. You can't compare the two. Shit, Tasmania rarely even sees snow at lower elevations where most people live, whereas that's a reality here for sometimes months at a time.
Look Dinky... There's a reason many of our ski hills are staffed by younger Ozzies. You know why they are staffed by Ozzies? Because they want real snow so they can do real skiing! Trust me, they don't come here for the piss-poor Canadian wages!

No you don't, worm. I never said Tasmania gets more snow. In fact, I pointed that out in the OP. What Tasmania gets however is a lot of precipitation and the picture you posted is a lot like Tasmanian rivers and creeks.

I'm telling you there isn't though. We drink this water. The largest city in Western Canada (Vancouver) drinks this water.
You have to envision the flow... Australia (Tasmania included) doesn't have the flow to perhaps rinse those toxins out into the Ocean.
Here, there is the heavy flow. All those toxins, if they existed, flushed away!
I'm on well water, as are many people in BC outside of cities. Some get their water regularly tested, but I don't bother. If theirs is good, so is mine. It's not heavy metals that are ever the problem though. If anything, it's elevated bacteria counts...

To be honest, nobody knows or gives a damn where you are or what you're doing 24/7 any where you go.
You could just as easily fall off your dirt bike and get eaten by a bear or scalped by injuns while you lay unconscious and no one would ever know.

I understand that, but ideally people should let others know where they are going... Even a simple hiking trip goes bad for some people, and their asses often get saved when they fail to return home to wife, who knows what area her frail, weak, and confused husband may be located in...

What's a dog going to do? Call 911 and file a missing persons report?
My point was that at least something would miss him
That'a better than a wife who might sit home anxiously awaiting that precious phone call .. not report him missing ... and in fact answer any calls with "Oh, he's out in the yard. I can see him. He's OK" .. to throw them off a search
I hope you can get some solace knowing that I'd care .. and miss you

There was a drowning in the river where Mel lives...the person is missing...helicopters, and people still searching for a body :(
Talked to a friend of mine out there who said majority of those tubing in the river are tourist and it's getting out of hand. This is what happens when you have stupid people who don't know the waters or the rapid areas...some of those corners are fuckin dangerous.
People drown quite regularly in the rivers here. Most are tourists. There are warning signs around the popular spots, with this simple message at the end: Don't Drown!
Yet it happens. Many are drinking. While this area is quite "free," meaning you can do what you want without much interference from authorities, that also means one must utilize some personal responsibility and common sense. Help is NOT around the corner here!

You could capture an asian girl and put her in there..
Build her a kitchen.
You could!
I have three secure bunkers with asian girls in them.

My parents almost drowned on a canoe trip when they capsized and got sucked under a fallen pine tree in the rapids. Mum popped up on the other side still 8 months preggers, but dad was sort of impaled at water level by the branches and was struggling to keep his head above water.
My grandpa got close and kept his head up while different uncles worked on breaking the branches.
I love my redneck side of the family...
People (tourists) forget simple things about this area: First off, there is no cell service... Help is a long way away, potentially.
