Title: Pipelines and Politics......
Post by: Obvious Li on November 17, 2013, 11:07:31 AM
it is becoming increasingly clear that the crazies on the left aided and abetted by the courts and money grubbing natives have taken control of this issue and intimidated cowardly federal and provincial politicians into total inaction.........we are at risk of losing our status as a reliable supplier of energy around the globe.....as well as decimating the industry that generates most of the revenue that funds the wealth of this nation........this is a travesty and if left unchecked will ruin our economy permanently.......

my solution to pipeline gridlock..........much like their predecessors in the 1800's and early 1900's,  with the building of a national railway and highway system, the Conservative government needs to designate a pipeline corridor from coast to coast to coast.....once designated, this corridor would be free of lengthy and politically motivated environmental reviews and be used for all future pipeline growth in canada....companies with pipelines in the corridor would contribute a per barrel fee into an environmental clean up fund..as well, the most current technology in the world would ensure quality control on any build.......the corridor would flow through low population dense areas in the northern part of the provinces and territories it has to cross.....as far as the natives are concerned, they already participate disproportionately in  funds from the government provided by tax paying Canadians and businesses...if they want a piece of the action then any such revenues should result is reduced welfare payments from the government...this is a fair and equitable resolution to this issue.

what say you intelligent posters regarding this issue.....

Outstanding idea OL. Norway has a vast pipeline network as well as offshore drilling and tankers. They get top buck for their product and yet we are being ripped off by our limited pipeline/market access.

Well one way or another our vast resources are not staying in the ground. Ontario does not get many spin off jobs from minerals produced in the third world, but we sure do from resources produced from Saskatchewan to BC.

The Transmountain pipeline expansion is not expected to come on line now until near the end of quarter one, 2024. Once it is brought into production it is expected that two million barrels of oil will always be in the pipeline from greater Edmonton to greater Vancouver. That removes a lot of the bottleneck that keeps the gap between Western Canadian Select and West Texas Intermediate low.

The big news is that crude oil is now flowing through the Trans Mountain expansion (TMX) pipeline from Alberta to tidewater on the B.C. coast.

The additional 590,000 barrels per day of capacity will boost the volume of Canada's international exports. It will also result in higher prices for Canadian heavy crude (relative to the North American light benchmark - West Texas Intermediate), raising national income. The added egress should also reduce the volatility of the light-heavy differential, as the extra capacity mitigates against minor disruptions. The improved pricing is not just for the additional barrels flowing through the pipeline, but all heavy barrels produced.

For example, a study by IHS Markit (now S&P Global) conservatively estimates that insufficient export capacity for Canadian heavy crude resulted in $14 billion (US dollars) in lost value for the country between 2015 to 2019.
