The Jews didn't like that, so they grabbed a bunch of cameras and fled to Hollywood for these reasons: Hoping to avoid patent lawsuits, Hollywood was about as far away from Edison and New Jersey as they could get. Land was also cheap then, and the weather is good for filming. It was also close to the Mexican border in case the Jews had to flee there to avoid prosecution for patent infringements.
And that's how Hollywood became what it did!
