Slavs???....My experience is that they are dumb as dirt,...service industry plebes, good only for digging ditches and janitorial work. They are easily and more cost-effectively replaced by Guatemalans or other such unskilled labor.
No wonder you like them. You have much in common.
Most of the journeymen trades people that qualify under the skilled immigrant class come from countries like Poland, Ukraine, Serbia and Bulgaria. It's Filipinos that come here to work at Mickey D's, not us Slavs.

When I say slavs I mean former Yugoslavians. My experience is that they once provided a lot of unskilled labor in the US. It may have been supplanted by central Americans by now...It's not just my experience as well. It was originally called to my attention years ago by some Russian/Ukrainian engineers that I worked at an MEP firm.. They claimed that Yugoslavians where big in the service industry...maids, janitors, unskilled laborers, etc.

I did not know that. It is about ninety per cent Flips here doing those jobs.

There were other equipment as well... Industrial robot etc.
Funny thing was that we didnt have that kind of gear ourselves.

I live in an area with many of these people, and they are awesome... They have good sense of humour.
They are Doukhobours, they are simple people. The new generation of Douks are a bunch of wannabes. They may not be very bright people, but they know how to live off the land and make good borscht and vareniki. Visit the old people...they love the company and they will feed you, even give you food to take home...fruit veggies, eggs, home made jams and picklings...get to know the little old ladies, esp the ones that sew! I use to bring my pants to them for hemming or take in a shirt...they will happily do it for free...just visit them every so often. And be nice to them! Offer help with an errand...you'd be surprised what they will for you if you go out of your way to be kind to them. There are a few in their 80s now, still alive...I should actually make a trip out there and go see them before they die.
