Fukuzawa says he hopes the car can be made into a real-life product by 2023, but he acknowledged that making it safe was critical.
"Of the world's more than 100 flying car projects, only a handful have succeeded with a person on board," he separately told The Associated Press. "I hope many people will want to ride it and feel safe."
The machine so far can fly for just five to 10 minutes, but if that can become 30 minutes it will have more potential, including in the Chinese market, Fukuzawa said. The Japanese government is stressing the possibility of connecting remote areas and providing lifelines in disasters.
[My uninvited opinion ?
Fun to think about - but it'll never "fly" as a practical and safe item - and would scare other drivers near it shitless]
I would take a ride in one, but I doubt we'll be getting around Panama in our flying car in the future.

Flying cars may eventually fill some emergency purposes, but as a means of daily transportation??
Thats just an upscaled drone with a cockpit..

I know, all versions are, so far.
My little girl would like to have one of them. So, would I.
A flying ATV would be ideal for hunting.
If you want your city to look like it's been crippled by a few dozen air raid bombardment attacks, by all means, support the idea of flying cars for the public. ac_unsure

I am not too concerned about that. We will not see flying cars being the primary means of transportation in our lifetimes.

Ya, a bit of a never-gonna-happen pipe dream
I remember way back some company built a car / boat that "just didn't fly"
They still make Argos I think. They are an atv/boat combo.

I'm happy that's the case for the moment, I remember some people said auto pilot is only a stepping stone for flying cars in the future, without it I don't want to imagine how traffic will be like in the sky when people even struggle to maintain or maneuver their cars on a flat road. ac_unsure

Good point
Somebody in LA was three thousand feet in the air on a jet pack. This spooked pilots landing at LAX.
