Ah, possums in Oz have different markings than they do here..They are obviously cuter than their N. American cousins.

Interesting...especially the single offspring thing. Ours have an assload of babies. I guess because their mortality rate is so high. Unlike a chicken, the God damn things can't seem to make it across the road. :nea:

Ours also have a bare rat like tail and they are not the most attractive of creatures. But they are beneficial animals. They eat ticks and other harmful insects. They also eat carrion and help clean up the environment.
About two years ago one of my dogs, a female American Eskimo miniature, got a hold of a opossum in my backyard. It was dark and I couldn't see what she had but she was shaking the shit out of it and tossing it around like a rag doll. When I finally called her off, I went to inspect what she was chewing on and found it was an opossum. The poor ugly thing was all torn up and obviously had a broken back. I had to put the poor thing out of it's misery with a .22 short.

I have an old Marlin 780 bolt action that I keep handy for pests. It will fire .22 LR, .22 short and the discontinued. 22 long. If your rifle was a semi auto, the .22 short doesn't generate enough energy to operate most semi autos reliably.

Semi auto with spring load tube magazine (wood dowel) that was a fcking pain in the arse. Ended up treating it like a bolt action and thumbing individual rounds in.
It was good for ground squirrels and chipmunks tearing up the lawns...

Isolated cases of bubonic plague happen around the world.
On Sunday (July 5), a herdsman in Bayannur city, in western Inner Mongolia, was diagnosed with bubonic plague, according to The New York Times. Health authorities said in a statement that the patient is being isolated and is in stable condition at a local hospital.
The case is not all that unusual; indeed, cases of plague crop up from time to time on nearly every continent worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, including a handful of cases that occur each year in the United States. The man was diagnosed with a form of plague that is not spread from person to person.
