CALGARY -- A young Muslim girl was punched, kicked and had her religious head covering pulled in what police are investigating as a possible hate crime in Calgary's Prince's Island Park.
The incident happened Sunday at around 1:30 p.m. as two girls, both under the age of 16, were walking along the pathway near the Bow River.
According to police, a 28-year-old woman confronted them with a verbal attack.
Police say the women tried to walk away as racial slurs were hurled at them, but the woman persisted and the attack escalated to physical violence.
One woman was pushed, punched in the face, kicked in the stomach and had her hijab — a headscarf worn by Muslim women — torn off. The second victim wasn't physically assaulted.
"It's just ... sadness. The community doesn't get shocked anymore," said Dr. Mukarram Zaidi with the Canadian Muslim Research Think Tank.
"When I speak to women and young girls, they're having these incidents on a daily basis."
Zaidi also points to three incidents in Edmonton this year in which women were harassed and assaulted in what police called "hate-motivated" attacks. A man was charged earlier this month.
The incident in Prince's Island Park was stopped when an innocent bystander and two men, believed to be associated with the attacker, intervened, allowing the victims to get away and call 911.
With aerial support from the HAWCS police helicopter, a 28-year-old woman was located and arrested in connection with the investigation. Bridgette Serverite is charged with common assault, mischief and causing a disturbance in public.
Police are looking to speak with anyone who witnessed or recorded the incident, as well as a Good Samaritan who stayed with the women following the attack.
Zaidi says there needs to be a collective effort from police, media and politicians to handle these situations better.
"It can't just be statements, there needs to be action," he said.
"That is such a sad feeling that living in Canada you fear for yourself and safety just because you look different and follow a different religion."
The group adds that it's a painful coincidence that March 21, the date of the Prince's Island Park attack, is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism.

The word "Asian" alone says little. Asia is huge and contains many vastly different people. The word covers everything from from India to Thailand to Taiwan and Philippines down into Indonesia .. all very different groups

That's what I keep saying. Release the names of those on the parole board who allowed this shit head out.
Here in Canada, I want laws to change...I want longer sentences, eliminate bail, eliminate the 'rehabilitation' programs in prison cause they don't work...therefore saving A LOT of money and less of a burden on tax payers...hold judges accountable for ridiculous decision and/or not working with the laws but their own agenda (quite honestly, I want a judges job obsolete and replaced with AI)...hold the parole board accountable for early release on violent offenders who reoffend.
I really wish people would use their brains and think...I dont like this defund the police thing.. .the police are the only ones out there catching these criminals time and time again, the police are the ones warning the public when a high risk offender gets released << the parole board is not letting anyone know this...but since the police do it, hey let's blame them

A July 2017 Quinnipiac University poll in New York City found that blacks strongly support the cops in their neighborhoods—62 percent approved compared to just 35 percent who disapproved. That approval rating was 11 percentage points higher than for the New York City Police Department as a whole. It makes sense that people only know their local cops, and rely on media reports to form impressions about other areas they are less familiar with. A 2020 Monmouth University poll found that 72 percent of both blacks and whites are satisfied with their local police.
There is other evidence. If blacks don't trust the police, they presumably won't turn to them as frequently as whites when a crime occurs. Yet, blacks report violent crime to police at a higher rate than either whites or Hispanics, even when controlling for income levels. Low- and middle-income blacks are about 11 percentage points more likely to report violent crimes to police.
Through extensive research, we found 2,699 police shootings across the nation from 2013–2015. That's far more than the FBI found, since its data is limited to only 1,366 cases voluntarily provided by police departments. The FBI data has other shortcomings, too: It disproportionately includes cases from heavily minority areas, giving a misleading picture of the frequency at which blacks are shot.
Our database keeps track of characteristics of both the suspect and the officer involved in each shooting, local violent crime rates, demographics of the city and police department, and many other factors that help determine what causes police shootings.
Officers kill blacks at a higher rate than their share of the population: 25 percent of the suspects killed were black, 45 percent white, and 16 percent Hispanic. As for where the deaths are occurring, black suspects tend to die in heavily black larger cities with populations averaging over 600,000, while whites are killed in smaller cities with an average population of 250,000.
White suspects were slightly more likely to be holding a firearm than blacks (63 percent to 61 percent). Black and white suspects were both equally likely to be involved in violent crime when they lose their lives at an officer's hands, though blacks who died were more likely to be involved in drug or property offenses. But police generally have more challenging jobs in cities where blacks are killed. The average city where blacks are killed had a 61 percent higher violent crime rate and 126 percent higher murder rate than where the average white was killed.
After accounting for these and other factors, including averaged cultural differences in police departments, we found that black officers were at least as likely as their white peers to kill black suspects, but that black officers were more likely to kill unarmed blacks than were white officers.

Yea, it's getting more common to see them lately, though they don't seem like the crazy BLM rioters we see online, just normal and nice people, at least on the outside, but a lot of them are misguided and would need to dig deeper in order to grasp onto reality.

A black-owned automobile shop had been targeted for weeks by vandals leaving racist graffiti but the owner set up surveillance cameras, and was surprised to find out the suspects were also black.
The incident unfolded at Dwayne Haynesworth's Auto Body and Repair Shop in Spring Lake, North Carolina.
They spray-painted swastikas and KKK figures on his cars and left the message, "please leave." They also damaged several vehicles. The owner said the vandalism started after one of his vehicles was stolen from the lot he rents.
Haynesworth then set up surveillance cameras to capture images of the vandals.

RCMP and Edmonton police are looking into a hate-motivated crime involving two women walking on a path bordering Edmonton on June 23.
The two women were walking along a pathway near Alderwood Park at around 12:35 p.m. when a man they didn't know starting yelling racial remarks at them, St. Albert RCMP said.
"The male then pulled out a knife, knocked the second female to the ground, and held her down with the knife against her throat while he continued to threaten the females with racial slurs."
RCMP said the man ran away and officers, along with the RCMP Police Dog Services, couldn't find him after searching the area.
The first woman who was attacked regained consciousness, RCMP said, and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other woman sustained minor injuries but was not taken to hospital.

A man is recovering from a violent daytime assault that happened late last month, which the Edmonton Police Service believes was motivated by hate.
It happened on Wednesday, Jan. 26, around 2:30 p.m., north of the downtown core in the Alberta Avenue area.
Edmonton police said the the victim, a Black man, was walking north along 95 Street near 114 Avenue when another unknown man reportedly yelled a racial slur at him from across the street.
"It was reported that the suspect then ran across the street and punched the complainant until he fell to the ground, at which point the suspect began kicking him," a news release issued Tuesday said.
Police said the victim briefly lost consciousness before waking up and walking a few blocks to the nearby Royal Alexandra Hospital, where officers met him.

I only heard about it only 6 hours ago myself. Patreon were knocking people off its roster a few years ago for something they called "Manifest Observable Behaviour" (Lauren Southern and Carl Benjamin were among the first I heard to be kicked off under this MOB rule) and just about wet myself laughing when Patreon subsequently launched an ad campaign claiming what a great platform they were for generating revenue for creators after fully a third of their patrons walked out on them for it.
Basically, it goes like this; if you do something Patreon doesn't like, they can ban you for it. Whether you do it on their "platform" or not is immaterial. Carl Benjamin was kicked off for making fun of white supremacists to their face, Lauren was booted off for discharging a flare gun in the Mediterranean somewhere. At least that appears to be their reasons, Patreon are not in the habit of being forthcoming with explicit reasoning as to why they deny service to people. Which I don't mind saying makes them an incredibly unreliable company to do business with, especially after all the donations they've absconded with over the years.
I'm surprised they still have the money to keep the lights on. Then again, so does MySpace.

Two teenage girls from New York have been arrested and charged with hate crimes for allegedly assaulting a 57-year-old woman while making "anti-white" statements.
The 15-year-old and 16-year-old girls were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the July 9 alleged incident, which took place aboard a New York City bus in Queens. The girls were not named by police as they are minors.
The dispute began around 6:50 p.m. when the Q53 bus was in the area of Jamaica Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard. Three teens approached the 57-year-old woman, identified by the New York Post as Jill LeCroix, a grandmother of five, and got into a verbal argument.
The girls hit LeCroix with an unknown object, causing a laceration and bleeding, and fled the scene.
According to CBS New York, investigators say one of the girls yelled, "I hate white people. I hate the way they talk."
LeCroix told the New York Post that the girls asked if she was a Trump supporter.
"Before they hit me, the girl with the green hair said, 'You probably like Trump! Don't you?' LeCroix recounted. "I said, 'I love him.'"
LeCroix was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Centre, where she required three staples to her head, according to police.

On Wednesday, Darrin Johnson, 26, was indicted by a federal grand jury for a hate crime charge stemming from an August 2021 attack. The incident took place near the University of Cincinnati, just as students were returning to campus. At the time, Johnson supposedly yelled various ethnic slurs at the Asian American student, including "get away from me, you Asian," "go back to your country," and "you [brought] the kung flu here."
He also allegedly threatened to kill the young man, identified only as Tyler. "You're going to die for bringing it," Johnson allegedly stated.
After the verbal assault, Johnson punched the unnamed victim in the head, reports claimed. The force of the blow caused the man to fall backwards and strike his head on a car bumper. Police said that Johnson continued assaulting Tyler, who is a UC student, while he was bleeding on the ground. I watched it and it gave me a bit of a new perspective and reminded me of the 2520 years prophecy I hadnt thought about in a while. I'd say the idea that the Battle of Har Megido encompassing the entire planet lines up with prophecy concerning many of the earths people and animals dying in Revelation.

At around 8 p.m. on Sunday, roughly five months after they had moved to the city, 32-year-old Alexander Bulakhov, his wife, Anastasiia, and their 2-year-old daughter went out for a walk in a park in downtown Memphis. Suddenly, a black man in a ski mask allegedly approached them, stuck a gun in Alexander's face, and demanded his money. Alexander promptly handed over his wallet.
However, the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Marious Ward, then allegedly turned the gun on Anastasiia, demanding her property as well. Alexander tried to wrestle the gun away in an attempt to protect his wife and child, but the gun went off during the ensuing struggle, seriously wounding Alexander. He was raced to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Ward was soon afterward arrested, as was 22-year-old Brandy Rucker, also black, who allegedly drove the getaway car. According to police, both have made a full confession.
Ward and Rucker have been charged with a bevy of serious crimes, including first-degree murder, murder in perpetration of a felony, and attempted first-degree murder. Ward is being held without bail, while Rucker's bond was set at $750,000. Both are scheduled to appear in court again on December 1.
As violent and senseless as the incident was, many media outlets have either ignored it or declined to mention the racial component of it, and Mark Harris of OutKick claimed in a recent column that such has been the case in far too many black-on-white attacks. "For the media, it's another story that needs to be tip-toed around due to the skin color of the suspects," Harris wrote.
Harris may have overstated the issue, as a basic internet search yielded articles from dozens of different outlets reporting on the murder. But almost none of the headlines or the articles made mention of the race of the suspects or the victim, which may speak to Harris' overall point.
"If it were two white suspects who murdered a minority St. Jude doctor in Memphis, the story would lead every national news broadcast," Harris claimed.
"It's an incredibly sad reality, but it's the world we're living in, a world focused on optics instead of facts."
To further his argument, Harris also mentioned the recent death of Las Vegas teenager Jonathan Lewis, who was beaten to death by a group of black teenagers, video of the crime showed. According to reports, the suspects got into a fight with Lewis' friend over a robbery that had allegedly taken place earlier that week. A young Jewish dentist in California was gunned down in cold blood, and a "Middle Eastern" man stands accused of the crime.

Larson claimed she first heard about the alleged attack after school that day when the school principal and her daughter's teacher approached her vehicle. So, my oldest is naturalized and my youngest is not. Both are permitted to be dual nationals. I did it for the first but not the second (at least not yet). Both however were born in Australia to at least one Australian parent.
So which kid could or shoukd be deported and stripped of AU citizenship if they, heaven forbid, said or did the wrong thing?
Citizenship stripping only works here if a person has two citizenships..
How far would you take it?
Perhaps consider if you and hubby had kids, he registered them as dual nationals for his European nation, and they said or did something off.
