MLB | Field of Dreams Game Highlights - A For Real Pro Game

Chicago White Sox & New York Yankees play regular season game at the original "Field of Dreams" Stadium in Iowa - build out of a corn field for the inspirational / positive movie

Anderson hit a two-run homer with one out in the ninth inning into the cornfield to end the Field of Dreams game in cinematic fashion, as the Chicago White Sox outslugged the New York Yankees 9–8 Thursday night in the first Major League Baseball game in Iowa.

"The fans came to see a show, and we gave them a show," Anderson said.

Costner (who made the magical movie) started the evening with a star's entrance, slowly walking out of the cornrows—like Shoeless Joe Jackson and his ghost-like teammates did in the film

From Barrie, Ontario

Sydney was born premature at 29 weeks with a birth weight of 1 pound 15 oz. The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto cared for her for the first 9½ months of her life. In addition to cardiac surgery at four months, Sydney at eight months of age had surgery to insert a tracheostomy and gastrointestinal tube.

Once home, Sydney became involved with Empower Simcoe Infant Development Program for in-home developmental support, family support and to help encourage community integration for Sydney and her family. Specialized funding for Sydney was received through Respite Enhancement Funds and Special Services at Home. The Innisfil Professional Fire Fighter's Association graciously donated a generator as a backup power source for Sydney's medical equipment to ensure she is in the best possible health at all times.

She is an energetic, playful and strong-willed little girl who continues to overcome challenges. According to Mom Jennifer, "Our family is so incredibly grateful for the support from Empower Simcoe. Because of this support, we have been able to adjust to Sydney's needs and maintain an active and stimulating environment for our family."

More from Barrie.

Corey Huggins takes great pride in hard work, getting his hands dirty, and nurturing something from seed to harvest.

Supported by Empower Simcoe's Community Support Services program, Corey looks forward each year to another season of growing pumpkins and sunflowers on his family's farm. Prepping the plants begins in the spring, about five weeks before seeds go in the ground. First, the seeds are planted into labeled starter boxes that identify the different varieties of plants. Supplied by no one but Mother Nature, the next essential ingredients are sunlight and lots of water. Before the transplanted seedlings go into the ground with a shovel full of manure, under Corey's supervision, the soil is turned with a cultivator and tractor. Then, it's months of early morning watering and weeding before the summer's sun gets too hot. By September, Corey's farm field is a vast sea of orange as the pumpkins are ready for harvest. Here's a little pumpkin patch fun fact. Once a pumpkin is picked, it's dunked in a barrel of water and bleach to preserve it and help it last through the autumn months. Corey also loves picking his farm's bright and cheery sunflowers so he can give out bouquets to family and friends. In addition to generous donations of his farm's fall harvest to a local café and his neighbours, Corey was thrilled to provide pumpkins to Empower Simcoe's Community Support Services program along with a beautiful Thanksgiving floral arrangement.

For Corey, it's a way for him to give back to his community, nurture his social skills, and share in something he loves.

Thank you, Corey, for this special gift of gratitude and sharing in those good things that come from the earth.

There is lots of good things as we see above

Afternote on "Field of Dreams": FOX Sports' Field of Dreams broadcast most-watch regular season MLB game since 2005 (//https)

Viewership peaked between 8:45 and 9 p.m. ET to just over 6 million

Thursday's game almost ranked as the most-streamed regular baseball game in FOX Sports history, according to the network's public relations team.

Surrounded by cornfields and other nostalgic details, MLB's first-ever game in Iowa did not disappoint.

[I guess we can count on regular repeats from the corn field ac_smile ]

Williams Lake trucker Rene Bremner is being praised as a "prince of men," after he helped an elderly couple who ran into car troubles along Highway 97 near Cache Creek recently.

In a Facebook post Bill Barr said his grandparents had a flat tire and when they stopped in the 39C heat discovered their spare tire was flat as well.

"This guy must have sensed they were in trouble," Barr noted in the post. "Anyway he took time out of his I'm sure long day and changed the blown tire and air[ed] up the spare with an air hose he had on his truck and then put it on and followed my grandparents to Cache Creek in case he had to air it up again."

Grandson's Posting:

Stories not finished yet, my grandparents went for lunch while they waited for the tire to be fixed, we'll be dammed if this guy didn't phone the restaurant and paid for their lunch as well

Sir you are an inspiration to mankind, as my grandparents say, you're a PRINCE OF MEN

Elderly Lady Stranded on I-85 Rescued by State Troopers—Who Buy Her Lunch After Ordeal (//https)

Getting stranded on the highway is an inconvenience at best; at worst, it can be a disastrous nightmare.

That terrifying situation befell an elderly woman in North Carolina, who was traveling alone mid-July when her car ran out of gas on the I-85.

Luckily, a few good men came to her aid after she called law enforcement. North Carolina State Troopers Coggins and Linch arrived on the scene and made sure she was safe. Coggins went to get gas while Linch waited with the woman in her car.

After refueling her car, the Troopers offered to buy her lunch. Two other troopers joined her for lunch

The mine represents BHP's first foray into the potash business.

Jansen will create at least 3,500 jobs during peak construction and 600 in operation.

A Texas couple got married in a hospital room so the groom's father could attend after emergency surgery.

The groom's father had a staph infection that turned septic and required hospitalization and surgery in the days leading up to the wedding. When it became clear that he would still be in the hospital for their big day, Aaliyah and Michael Thompson came up with a new plan to bring the wedding to him.

"We immediately went to work and started making plans to be married in the hospital at that point because we knew it was really important for him to be there, and there was no way the doctors were letting him out in his condition," Aaliyah told Insider.

Aaliyah and Michael's pastor met them at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, the morning of their wedding. The bride and groom both wore plastic hospital gowns and exchanged rings over gloved fingers. Afterwards, nurses brought an assortment of the hospital's finest offerings.

Strangers bought a car for a fast-food worker after finding out he walked 3 miles to and from work every day.

Andy Mitchell offered a ride to a man he saw walking on the side of the road in 95 degree Texas heat.

The man, Justin Corva, told Mitchell that he walked three miles to and from work every day because he couldn't afford a car.

Inspired by his tenacity, Mitchell snapped a selfie with him and posted it on Facebook. Local business owners heard about Corva's situation and came together to raise enough money to provide him with a 2004 Toyota Camry, a year of insurance, two years of oil changes, and $500 of gas.

Corva's emotional reaction streamed on Facebook Live garnered around 358,000 views.

Its only 3 miles... Its nothing.

Most people casually walk that while on leave.

Wheatland County councillor donates entire 2020 salary to build a playground in Cluny, Alta.

CALGARY -- The tiny hamlet of Cluny, about 100 km east of Calgary has a new playground, courtesy of one of Wheatland County's councillors.

But Coun. Jason Wilson didn't go the usual route of lobbying his council colleagues to cough up tax dollars for the playground.

Instead the 24-year-old donated his entire salary from last year to have the playground built.

"I definitely noticed the hit but it's the same hit everybody in Alberta is facing right now. I put myself in their shoes," said Wilson.

"My family's just been around that community and they've really been a part of my life. So I wanted to donate back."

Wilson has long been a strong advocate of smaller government, lower spending and increased personal responsibility.

He says putting his $41,000 annual paycheque into the community project shows he's putting actions to his words.

"We in Alberta are facing one of the worst economic downturns in this past two years and probably going to get worse over the next three," he said.

"A lot of it is government screw-ups to be quite honest. And the average person isn't at fault for that. I don't agree with those average citizens, their kids and families, being not being able to go outside and play on a playground that the government was refusing to build or whatever the reason is.

"Well, provincial politicians or municipal politicians, federal politicians continue to take a very large salary when their residents are haven't made a salary in a year and a half."

Wilson did not publicize his donation. He actually tried to keep it out of the public eye, but Word eventually got out, as now Wilson says he hopes it spurs other politicians to consider donating some, or all, of their annual salary back to their communities.

"If you had every MLA say, 'one year out of our four-year term, let's donate something,' I mean, infrastructure for families would go through the roof. And it would bring back the importance of individual donations, if people don't have to rely on government or politicians themselves, they can be reminded, 'hey, we can do this as individuals or a community,'" he said.

"I mean, you have Rachel Notley, Jason Kenney making six-digit salaries, if they donated half of that to something that was important to the average person. How far would that go?"

Wilson admits he isn't holding his breath that any other politician will step up and follow his lead.

Meanwhile, even though having his donation come to light might be just the sort of news a politician wants heading toward a fall municipal election, Wilson will not be running for re-election.

Instead he will be heading to university in Ireland where he will be studying business.

WARSAW, Poland—An Olympic athlete from Poland auctioned her silver medal from the Tokyo Games to raise money for a life-saving operation for an infant boy (//https), and then was told by the buyer that she could keep her prize.

Maria Andrejczyk, a 25-year-old javelin thrower who overcame bone cancer and a shoulder injury to compete at this year's Olympics, said she decided to auction her medal to help the boy knowing how much she had to "fight against adversity and pain."

The money is for Milosz Malysa, an infant with a heart defect whose family has been raising funds for him to be operated on in the United States. Milosz's parents posted last week that the boy was at risk of dying soon without the surgery.

Zabka, a popular convenience store chain in Poland, bid 200,000 zlotys ($51,000) but said it would let the athlete keep her medal.

"We were moved by the beautiful and extremely noble gesture of our Olympian," Zabka said.

Fans have contributed an additional 300,000 ($76,500) to help the boy.

Even before the winning bid was made, the authorities in Andrejczyk's community in Poland said they were prepared to make her a replica of the medal.

Indoor city cat survives almost two months in the wilds of Jasper National Park

Missing Instagram-famous feline found safe in Jasper by a group of volunteers

While many people on social media thought Draco would become coyote food in the Canadian Rockies, his owners knew their beloved lost pet was a tough cat.

"I told my husband if Draco met a bear, I would worry for the bear," said Alix Lizaire. The feline Instagram star would commonly join Lizaire on mountain hikes in his harness.

Last August, while hiking one of Draco's favourite trails — Valley of the Five Lakes hike in Jasper National Park — the adventure cat was spooked by passing hikers portaging a canoe. He slipped out of his harness and bolted up the side of the mountain out of sight.

He remained missing until this week.

"He's not scared of much, but apparently canoes," said Lizaire. The couple spent the next several days searching and putting up lost posters, even offering a $1,000 reward.

Occasionally, a hiker would spot the cat and the couple would drive back to Jasper hoping to find Draco, but always without success.

For several weeks, volunteers in Jasper combed the woods for Draco as leaves yellowed, temperatures dropped and the mountain peaks were dusted white.

While Draco had never been off-leash outside his Edmonton home, the owners worried he was having too much fun hunting in the mountains. Even as temperatures plunged, they were not sure Draco would want to come home.

"Unfortunately, he loves snow," Lizaire said.

Into the cat trap

Jasperite Owain Thomas walked roughly 300 km over several weeks, looking for Draco. He managed to trap him this week.

After 49 days in an area rich with foxes, coyotes, wolves and bears, Draco was lured with treats into a trap and returned home to his owners.

A man from Villa Hills, Kentucky is delighting his neighbors with an awesome Christmas display at his home, and using the attention to collect donations for tornado victims in Western Kentucky.

Ralph Mueller's front yard is decorated with a small army of inflatable Christmas characters and a stellar lights display.

On Dec. 15, Mueller told his Facebook neighborhood group that he would be putting collection barrels out in front of his yard. He said anyone who wanted to visit to see the inflatables could drop off toys and food, which were donated to tornado victims in Mayfield, Kentucky on Dec. 23.

The community was happy to spread some Christmas cheer and give good gifts to those in need.

"They lost everything. It's just so sad," said Nancy Trenkamp, who dropped off toys in one of Mueller's collection bins.

"We've probably got over 1,000 toys," Mueller told WKRC on Tuesday.

He explained that he was inspired to help the tornado relief efforts after his son was deployed to Western Kentucky with the National Guard last week.

The Billionaire Who Wanted To Die Broke . . . Is Now Officially Broke

https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevenbertoni/2020/09/15/exclusive-the-billionaire-who-wanted-to-die-brokeis-now-officially-broke/?sh=57aae98e3a2a

It took decades, but Chuck Feeney, the former billionaire cofounder of retail giant Duty Free Shoppers has finally given all his money away to charity. He has nothing left now—and he couldn't be happier.

Charles "Chuck" Feeney, 89, who cofounded airport retailer Duty Free Shoppers with Robert Miller in 1960, amassed billions while living a life of monklike frugality. As a philanthropist, he pioneered the idea of Giving While Living—spending most of your fortune on big, hands-on charity bets instead of funding a foundation upon death. Since you can't take it with you—why not give it all away, have control of where it goes and see the results with your own eyes?

Over the last four decades, Feeney has donated more than $8 billion to charities, universities and foundations worldwide through his foundation, the Atlantic Philanthropies. When I first met him in 2012, he estimated he had set aside about $2 million for his and his wife's retirement. In other words, he's given away 375,000% more money than his current net worth. And he gave it away anonymously. While many wealthy philanthropists enlist an army of publicists to trumpet their donations, Feeney went to great lengths to keep his gifts secret. Because of his clandestine, globe-trotting philanthropy campaign, Forbes called him the  James Bond of Philanthropy.

Not much of an Olympic or even hockey fan (a traitor to my country I know)

It was nice to see our Woman's Hockey Team beat the US in the final to take home Gold (& with not  a biological male to be seen)

After a short trip in their self-converted van turned into three years on the road, and a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the southernmost tip of Argentina, a Utah couple decided to put down roots. They bought a piece of land in Utah and built their very own tiny cabin in the woods, just in time to welcome their first baby.

Trent, 35, and Allie, 31, fell in love with the minimalist lifestyle while on the road.
