Personal units are not "breathalysers" per se. They are breath test kits that provide an estimate of alcohol in the blood. Breathalysers are the machines used to obtain an accurate reading admissible in court. Those small test kits are not admissible.



Why I would be wearing a "breathalyser" at a F1 GP only a fevered and slightly maladjusted imagination like yours could explain.

And why people have personal breathalysers is to return zero readings before driving home from events which serve refreshing alcoholic beverages thus avoiding harmful interactions with nasty people in uniforms who steal from, bully, and kill people while calling themselves public servants and heroes for overcompensating for their micro genitals and extremely low IQ's.

If they take a reading before driving, it's a waste of time. If they take a reading and catch a taxi, that's fine.



But relying on a $10 tube of crystals to ensure your licence remains is a fools errand. As I implied above, blow in your little tube and record a reading of say, 0.3, then get stopped and breathalysed and it reads 0.5 and you're busted. Your little toy tube is NO defence to a positive test.



To be absolutely safe, drink no more than 2 standard drinks in no less than an hour. That should kick you to 0.4 or thereabouts. A third drink will potentially kick you over the edge...with other factors taken into account.



The golden rule is any more than 2 standard drinks and you should not drive.
