Title: Subway is closing more stores in Australia
Post by: Frood on February 16, 2022, 01:39:01 AM
Because experts say that consumers want more plant based dining options.

I call bullshit.

Subway has been plagued with accusations about their tuna and meats not being 100% what they say they are.

People want to know what they're eating and this push towards plant based fake meat is a top down initiative to promote the Great Reset.

I see more and more of this retarded crap in supermarkets, fast food ads, and the like.

They're running up the costs of real meats to discourage meat eating and promote malnutrition, weakness, and mental illness.

They want us ill, stupid, and easily led.

Viva La Carne!

Most towns here over 1500 people have a Subway..

I never buy anything from them.

Happily my town has 1,197 and no fast food whatsoever.  One mexican restaurant, no hotel, one market.  And I can make my own sandwich.

Subway used to be convenient for me if I was running late to work  and needed something for later but after laboratories started dissecting and analysing their ingredients, I was repulsed.

Haven't had a Subway sandwich in years now...

Only order from real restaurants...

They are convenient and I suppose if one likes sandwiches they are better than gas station sandwiches made by Hygaard.

On drives to and from Florida, I'll grab a wrap to go. I never go to a Subway here in Barrie though.

-----------------------

About a year ago I read an independent study on their meats. They thoroughly tested all meats and found all sliced "meats" were a minimum of 50% soy

I don't mind Subway, but I prefer Quiznos. Better than either is Pita Pit. I like a veggie wrap or pita with hummus and guacomole.

Losing some kilos?

I am in discussions with my orthopaedic surgeon about have both knees replaced. There is, however, a weight limit on having both knees replaced at the same time...a limit I am perilously close to.

So, I have to wind back on bread, cakes, chocolate, beer and pies (all of the five food groups) to make sure I stay under the limit come surgery time.

I am Ukrainian. I love bread. But, when I first registered here I was the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I weighed 252 pounds. I had a gut. I am active and I hate sweets, but I liked my bread. Six years later I am a svelte 207 pounds on my six foot one frame. My tou tou fits me again.

Good luck with your surgery brother. Drop the sweets and bread, and you will drop the weight.

Thank you all.

I have not yet decided whether I will do two at a time (the most likely) or to take a conservative approach and do one at a time. That, however, doubles the rehab period, and I'm not keen on that.

My 85 year old mother in law just had her knees redone after getting them 1st done in the mid 90s.

She chose to do them individually this time.

I doubt my Doc would do a double on a person of that age. Even at 70 it may be problematic.

Redone??? Poor woman. Going through that twice. I'm told the modern prosthetics do have a longer life span...

Stupid question, but here goes. What causes knees to need replacement?
Title: Re: Subway is closing more stores in Australia
Post by: Bricktop on February 16, 2022, 10:52:25 PM
The knee joint literally corrodes over time, changing from a smooth, frictionless surface to a pitted, rough surface.

Playing sports, hard impact physical activity, incorrect lifting of heavy items over extended periods and high impact accidents all serve to wear out the cartilage in the knee joint that protects the surfaces, accelerating the rate of deterioration until the knee joint just won't move smoothly.

Because women's bones are more brittle, they tend to wear out quicker than males, unless the males have mistreated their knees, like me, in their younger days.

The original surgeries weren't meant to last as long as they have. She wanted them redone now rather than in her 90's...

Walmart has many cheaper items than local retailers..

If money was no object I would avoid big box stores and Amazon.

Local businesses push up the prices. If I need a shovel from a local hardware store, it's likely to cost me 45-65 bucks.

A hardware chain 25 minutes drive from here.... at least half that.

Same with the local grocers... at least a 30% mark up.

I'm all for buying local but it's ridiculous. We've got a Cafe down our village mainstreet which specialises in all day breakfasts.

Cup of coffee there is over 6 bucks.

711's 25 minutes away... 1-3 bucks.

The couple that own the Cafe are being subsidised by sparse yet expensive sales on items. A sandwich costs 10-12 bucks.

Ack!  711.  I'd put coffee in a thermos before I'd drive 25 to spend money there.

Corporations will win of course due to this lack of choice and someday taco bell will be the only restaurant just like in the movie demolition man.

Post by: Frood on February 17, 2022, 04:18:26 AM
The quality of the coffee is the same and I won't spend 6 bucks on the same thing you can get for 2 bucks.

However, since turning my vehicle into a camping setup... I rarely buy a cup. Water boils quickly and there's a side kitchen unit with provisions and cups in it. I use the individual coffee bags. 28 of the Mylar wrapped things for 5 bucks. Works out to about 30 cents a cup if you factor in the butane.

Even within big chains there is less competition..

We used to have Zellers, K-Mart, Woolworth's, Bargain Harold's among others.....they are all gone now..

Even Target couldn't survive in Canada because Walmart wouldn't share suppliers..

For retailing we have Walmart with Canadian Tire and Real Canadian Superstore trying to act as competition.

Yes, Zellers was good and our only Dept store at the time. While not considered by many as up to Sears, Bay etc. that was a bum wrap, as  they carried good items. They were smaller and that was actually a plus
