has grown to over $300 Million and now includes businesses going after truckers & contributors for loss of revenue
The class-action lawsuit launched by Ottawa residents against protesters in the city's downtown now includes an expanded area to include Sandy Hill and ByWard Market residents.
The team behind the original court action is adding businesses and workers as plaintiffs because they reported lost income, expanding total damages sought from $9.8 million to $306 million, and including a larger geographical area that extends to Somerset Street and the ByWard Market.
Lawyer Paul Champ successfully argued for a court-ordered injunction to silence the honking horns that plagued residents for the initial 11 days of the protest involving hundreds of semi-trucks and people who are against COVID-19 health measures.
Champ said his team is also going to start adding defendants who donated to truckers, as well as the truckers involved, as part of the action. The original suit named five defendants described as organizers but allowed for others to be named at a later date.
The injunction request came out of the proposed class-action lawsuit filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Feb. 7 by Champ, who was acting on behalf of Zexi Li, a 21-year-old public servant and downtown Ottawa resident.

We all know woke lawyers who hate working class people are behind this.
Go to the store and stock up NOW. This is going to get ugly. Truckers will be assaulted, arrested, and maybe killed. The outrage will be so massive that every truck driver in the country is going to stop driving. No food, no gas, no medicine, nothing will be available for weeks. Hunker down and get ready. And, as always, don't forget the manual can opener for when the power goes out.

It is my way of saying the response to these protests is hypocritical bullshit. Would any of those prog lawyers sue people lowering on one knee and destroying private and public property. Of course not. The government liked those protests, but not these ones.
This is an extremely distrubing development. I am so bloody glad I am out of this increasingly authoritarian country. I will keep an eye on what I say on social media until then. I need my retirement funds.

Are you frickin' kidding me?
For the last two years residents have been forced to take a vaccine they didn't want just to keep their job. They were forced to wear masks that don't work just to go to the store. They were forced into quarantine for two weeks if they tested positive. They were forced to show papers to go to a restaurant or a show. People who didn't comply were shamed, coerced, called nazis and looked upon as pariahs.
Businesses? How many aren't there anymore because of the restrictions? How many employees lost their jobs as a result? How many mom-and-pop stores vanished leaving only the big box stores (which were allowed to stay open when the small ones weren't)?
Now that people have finally had enough and are starting to fight back it's "Oh boo hoo hoo a truck is honking it's horn. Oh boo hoo hoo I have to walk an extra ten feet because there's a truck in my way. Oh look at these working peasants cluttering up my nice elitist area boo hoo hoo".
If you're in favor of continued lockdowns and all the other bullshit just go ahead and put a 'p' at the end of your name and be honest about who you really are. The rest of us will be fighting for freedom.

What about the rights of the MILLIONS of people around the world who lost their jobs, lost vast sums of money, were forced to take a drug and were prevented from attending work if they did not?
What happened to THEIR rights.
Do not speak of rights unless you take into account the rights of ALL, not just panic stricken women who think the world will end without a jab and mask.
Lowlife childish, silly & irrelevant Memes aside ....... Want to "temporarily digress" from the gist of this thread about the actions being taken by local residents as is their right? ..
OK. I'll "temporarily digress" Mr. "rights for me .... but not for thee" (Oh, the self-serving Hypocrisy)
Trudy's bullsh-t power play action was never needed.
Windsor merely got a court injunction to clear out the Ambassador Bridge entrance including ordering RCMP to assist if needed & Towing Operations to act ... Windsor police cleaned the area easily
Ottawa can do the same and in fact are now doing exactly that with a plan taking all needed actions including safely removing all innocent children being used as shields to make removal more difficult , (How low can one go!! ac_blush ) ... followed by walkers, .. followed by telling truckers they can leave peacefully .. and finally towing trucks out if owners do not comply by simply driving away.
Like Windsor who did not have enough forces to do it safely, they employed their legal right to bring in many RCMP & in effect "deputize" tow trucks.
Again, Trudy's bullsh-t power play action was never needed -- Cities can obtain the power to request and in fact order ALL help needed.
Ottawa now is doing exactly what Windsor did & we are now seeing the beginning of the end in Ottawa
But you are not seeing the beginning of the end of Trudeau's assault on the rights of Canadian citizens.
Hardly a cause for jubiliation.
If this protest had been about climate change, every woman in Canada would have joined in.
Relevant Step 1 post void of female hate, pessimistic & evasive "buts"... as Canada maturely takes it one issue at a time
Step 1 - Police Restrict Access To Ottawa's Core (//https) to help local residents get their lives back
Ottawa's interim police chief says officers are working to keep more protesters from getting close to Parliament Hill as they try to end the occupation of downtown streets. "'Only people with lawful reasons' to be there can enter, says interim police chief"
Steve Bell told the Ottawa Police Services Board early Thursday afternoon a major increase of police officers will be seen throughout the core.
"Only those with lawful reason to enter the core, such as residents, businesses and others with lawful reasons, will be allowed in the area," Ottawa police tweeted around the same time as his remarks.

That don't matter. Working people had the nerve to question the wisdom of the ultimate intolerant prog prince.
Remember... Two years ago. Six weeks of blockaded rail lines, 60+ ships awaiting unloading at both East & West coasts,
Quebec in dire need of propane which couldn't be shipped via rail due to blockades.
Sabotage, fires, thousands laid off, food/necessities shortages, CN sued for $270M (was dropped), property damaged.
And not once was an Emergencies Act even suggested. Did lawyers sue greenie groups. Not a chance.

I've seen a lot of protests in Ottawa in my lifetime..
Ive never seen the such a draconian response to any of them as there has been to this one..
The government is misusing it's authority and encouraging human rights violations..
This is frightening.
I'd be quite happy to just chase them out and give locals their lives back
We do not need or want the draconian stuff. It is disconcerting
Now, locals going after them .. (what this thread was created for & is about) .. is not a Govt action, is totally private and every citizen's written legal right to sue for damages to their lives
All that said - We have a power mad PM to get rid of .. Trudeau 2 ... albeit not as bright, but as vile as Trudeau 1
Trudeau 1 was clever enough to stop just short of creating his own demise.. Trudeau 2 is NOT
I sometimes get the feeling that some prefer to sacrifice their own fellow citizen in Ottawa (so don't even want Ottawa resolved) in the wider goal we all want ... to get rid of Trudy
maybe even thought from the start these truckers would do their work for them?
one even accused me of "enabling Justine's tyranny" .. a bit of a shocker in light of my hatred for T2
I am NOT willing to sacrifice my fellow Ottawa citizens for another goal I agree with PERIOD .. and find that concept repulsive and extremely unpatriotic toward fellow citizens
I want Ottawa cleared out tout de suite + want Trudy gone .. but will not approve of "using" my fellow citizens in Ottawa to do it
Clean out Ottawa NOW .. & go after Trudy .. truckers cannot and will not do their work for them .. pipe-dreams aside, that was never in the cards

Try to get a grip on "proportion" .. and while you are at it, on "reality"
.. although that clueless irresponsible Drama Queen compulsion can be a hard one to break

This will have the approval of Justin Trudeau and turban wearing coalition partner. Perhaps government funding too. :negative:
While I would expect they might like to help, this is a "civil" action only and will play out as such in the courts only .. short of an out of court settlement
Does anyone else recall a protest against a sitting federal government garnerning such a disproportiante response.
Gaon, I can assure you that your federal government and the city of Ottawa is offering any and all assistance they can.

In my view, you seem deeply affected by current events. Your comments are becoming more stridently aggressive, and you seem to be losing your grip on rationality.
There is NOTHING vile in that comparison. The point being made is that in China, ONE man was prepared to stand before the tanks and tell them their intervention is not right, while in the other, people simply stepped aside when force was imposed on them.
Tank Man, as he is called, was not killed nor identified.
Your neurosis is getting completely out of control.

I agree with everything in this post except for your diagnosis of cc.
So, you're OK with her calling Oliver a "clueless irresponsible Drama Queen" for posting that image?
I'm sorry, I just can't agree. cc is a core and valued member here. I get that. But her intolerance and attacks on others is becoming increasingly strident.
I know I will be reflecting a minority view as she has many friends here, and that's OK.
But if she keeps attacking those she disagrees with, no-one should be surprised if she takes some hits in return.

He's been my Doctor for a long time .. but I'm getting no better
I'm not changing my view on the comparison. Yes Tank Man survived but he was part of a movement ending as a horrible massacre
And I have low tolerance for Drama Queens not understanding "proportion"

Absolutely not. I think my demeanor on this forum has been respectful. I get cheeky at times, but it's meant in good fun.
I get Oliver's point. It was valid. I disagree with cc's reply.

I've noticed that with experimentation via the drama pushing to civil discourse pendulum, it all depends on the person with cc.
There is no appeasing a dyed in the wool drama queen.
I knew a Bangladeshi once who insisted that if you kill a cobra, you'd better dispose of the head lest its mate be permitted to gaze into its dead eyes and see a rough image of the party responsible for its death. He swore by this and insisted it wasn't based in superstition. He and fellow villagers had experienced being "hunted" down... the mates literally banging their heads against sliding glass windows and tracking the particular person from outside homes as they moved around the interior.
cc is much the same in that regard. She has that same vengeful streak except without the venom.
It's a more common trait with women...
No dispute there.
She clearly seems a little unstable of late.
Karen's come from all over the political spectrum...

You pair of Women Haters remind me of the little boys who wanted a tree house to put a sign on
"No girls allowed. Boys Only!! Come and Talk About Everything Bad About Girls"
Not all that bright ... and lazy .. the Girl Haters then tried another track ... encountered this embarrassing situation ac_blush

True, they do build erections  .
They don't build shit.
That's why they flood universities to get "professional" career jobs. Heaven forbid they demonstrate equality in the manufacturing and building industries.
They'd break their nails.
They don't want equality. They want to flood the desk jobs.

Thanks......I have a desk job.
Exactly.
Why aren't you an electrician? Or bricklayer? Or mechanical engineer?
You're equal to males, after all. Why aren't women doing the heavy lifting in equal proportion to men.
My niece did a bricklayers apprenticeship from 17... by the time she was 20, her lower back was screwed.
She's been a stay at home mother who does part time hospitality work ever since.
Women need to accept that there are differences between the genders. If they can't perform, they have no business being in any line of work and particularly in combat military roles.
I think most women do. It's just the feminists and their puppet millenials that live in an alternate universe.
