Seems the whole Western World has nothing but totally justifiable disgust for him & is expressing it
As pressure builds, it builds on his party also. I would not rule out completely his own party booting him as their main competitor just did to their Official Leader

I have never seen anything like this. Canada is under a form of martial law. All because some vain little tyrants dug his high heels in on a useless policy.

Agreed. "People who live in glass houses..."
It's not just Canada in that position either; people were getting trampled by police horses a decade ago in Melbourne Australia at Occupy Wall Street protests and the current practice of disappearing healthy people into Pinko Pox detention centers in the Northern Territory has seen grumblings on the international stage. The CCP could just as easily shake their finger at the Aussies over that as well should they ever get too froggy over the treatment of Uighurs.
Not that I expect you have much to fear from that quarter. We all saw how quickly their leaders were encouraged to shutup and eat Vegemite when they were demanding answers into the origins of the Spooky Wu Flu. That line of inquiry was Bad For Business all round, as I am sure Truedeaup and his masters would be loath to admit.

It's been a while since I bothered to look; I'm guessing the answer is "no". Everything I've seen coming out of the place seems to indicate they've planned for a more protracted slog against their citizens and have often resorted to brutality and military grade methods of quelling their insurrections.
Both the currently presiding federal coalition and the lefter leaning opposition have signed off on Covid detention centers not expected to be completed until 2024. Additionally and in spite of the onerous (and dare I say it, "hamfisted") limitations enacted at the federal level, the opposition party has claimed it is not effective enough and that they can go much harder. Given what I know of the state of play in Labor governed states like Queensland and especially Victoria, I see no reason to doubt their sincerity on the matter. All of the major players seem to be on board with their contractual arrangements with the pharmaceutical companies.
And given that your average Aussie cannot juggle more than two choices in furry hairy little paws at a time and prefer to take their cues from a media that is heavily reliant on CNN and MSNBC talking points, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them voting in droves for it, irrespective of how many might be keeling over from myocarditis and VIIDS related illnesses at the time. Australians have been broken like little bitches - even if you were to remove every last restriction tomorrow, you would still see echoes of the last two years worth of fascistic rule for decades to come.

I have been critical of the Canadian government, and its Prime Minister. I have been critical of the response to the Canadian crisis by some members here, particularly cc.
I believe my fellow Australian protagonist on this issue has followed the same path. We have also been critical of SOME of our governments action from the very beginning of this plague.
But what we don't do is to offer some puerile, silly and disrespectful insult about Canadians as a nation, especially from a position of anonymity.

If you ever feel that this is not you, rest assured I do not mind a bit. Your long standing antipathy my way is as tired and toothless as it is undeserved.
In closing, if you genuinely felt that some of us were in need of "growing up", you might facilitate same by setting a better example to follow yourself. Fifteen years of holding someone else responsible for a problem you created is not it.

I had boots on the ground in Lincoln Fields when the whole "it's okay to punch a nazi" craze broke out circa 2018. Its loudest proponents were the university students... I had to ask a couple of them if they really considered their position on the matter - that if they were prepared to dish out violence, were they also prepared to receive it. Oh no, that was different... they were the do-gooders...
It saddened me more than I cared to admit. Up to that point Canada had seemed a more egalitarian place, a place where people worked more closely together, trading strength for strength. But that day I saw the societal rot getting ready to rise up.
There it is. I still don't believe violence solves the problem; in this instance they want the justification to beat the ever loving shit out of you, but just how long are you expected to endure getting trampled and bashed and very likely worse... indefinitely?
I dont believe him for a moment when he says the measures are time limited. 15 days to slow the spread turned out to be a lie and I've already heard ministers crapping on about making aspects of the emergency act permanent. i sncerely hope representative democracy might be clawed back, I might even return consider returning home to visit if it does, but now is definitely not the time.

Ya, I have heard that too. In fascism and communism a select few are fabulously rich and powerful. The rest are trampled under foot by horses for challenging the dictoarship. Oh wait, that is Justine's regime.

Punch a nazi is a load of bull. Those antifa fascists would beat up Fashionista because they say she is a nazi.
Low information activists will resort to violence when the power of the word eludes them. Most of them probably aren't aware Benito Mussolini created his brand of fascism off the back of a socialist template... or that the Nazi's unexpurgated name was tha National Socialist German Workers Party.
And don't get started in on Stalin's efforts, whatever you do. Or point out what a racist pig Karl Marx was by their standards... shit, they'd chase you up the nearest tree and set fire to it.
(But only if they didn't give you a head start before disappearing into the nearest Cry Closet for a good long "BAWWWWWW" first about what a nasty, horrid Trumplican Supreme Pizza you were first)
Fascism and communism are two sides of the same frickin coin.
Ahhh, real communism's never been tried.
Or so I'm told.
Don't really give a shit if it has or hasn't to be honest, even if all previous attempts at it were illegitimate, they all sucked as roundly as the current attempt appears to be doing. Ted Baillieu's as well, as Dinky Di will no doubt attest.

French place names too. Australia was very nearly a French colony, not British. French explorer Saint Alouarn mapped the west coast and buried coins at Dirk Hartog Island only two years after Captain James Cook mapped the east. Saint Alouarn died en route to the King of France however and therefore never communicated the claim he had staked.
Then in 1788, literally within days of Captain Arthur Phillip's arrival at Botany Bay, Admiral Jean-François de La Pérouse showed up with a couple of ships. The area next to Port Botany bears his name to this day and things might have looked a great deal different (some would argue better) had the frogs beaten the poms to the punch.

But, Australia never received many European Francophone immgrants did they?
UoT, I'm going to sleep, but before I do, I'm putting guest posting on mod approval..
It'll be back on full access again in the morning as soon as Cronus or myself gets here.

Yep, I know - it's not an issue from where I sit, I can easily wait out the clock until one of you is back on deck. Way better than seeing the site trashed in your absence I reckon.
As to your question, I knew a few out that way, though it was maybe more common to see French speaking polynesians on Australia's shores than actual immigrants from France. Let's face it, tropical paradises are more fun a pile of red dirt littered with numbats and comatose woobla drinkers, possibly with Jimmy Barnes or Peter Garret screeching screeching in the background, I dunno.
I kid. Australia isn't without its charm, but if there's a dearth of Francophones there, I can understand why. Plenty of more agreeable climates to be had if you're going to spend the time to get halfway around the world, better cultures too I reckon. And Australia used to be a kinder, more welcoming place back in the day. Like Ottawa was ten years ago. Maybe they all moved out.

know Autralia had waves of Italian and Greek immigrants, but not many European Francophones.

Wops, Wogs and Frogs.. there was a pre-PC time when they were referred to as such and nobody gave a damn.
They were good days; days where you could use what today we are assured are hurtful racial slurs, their very utterance indicative of supremacism, no quarter afforded to any of the myriad of other reasons they might be used.
Thing like familiarity... good humour... even endearment. Alien concepts to some, sure. As alien as the idea that Words magically convey inherent Intent that runs counter to the context people like myself might have actually intended.
It must be a sad and angry existence for those who cannot appreciate it. Lucky for me I was able to find enough people of different cultures that did.
I like those people, they are fun to be around.
No more true words were ever uttered by a Skippy....

Trudeau is having meetings with the devil on how to be more evil.
I don't know how much Trudeau is charging him though.
