Haven't you ever given blood? I thought people were informed of their blood type when they did so.
For a long time, gay men in Canada were not allowed to donate blood.I was aware of that. And that it has only fairly recently changed. So, does this mean you've never given blood? What about blood tests for diagnostic purposes?
I have never donated blood. I had a phsical about fourteen months ago including blood work, but I can't remember my blood type.I'm assuming then that if you or your doctor needed the information for any reason, it would be in your medical records.
That is correct. She has that information. But, I don't remember my blood type.Is blood type included in regular blood work? thus on one's chart? It has never come up in any test results I have received. Never thought to ask.
It's important to know as one can at least get them started looking in the right direction should one need it desperately
Only time I had a peek was when tested and based on result was on placed call for an Ex Pat in Philippines who was in dire need ....As there is one of the A's that is non existent in locals, it was urgent to test Ex Pats .. Obviously I was his type, but I I forgot whether + or -

In an emergency if a patient required an immediate blood transfusion and their blood type isn't known, O- will be compatible without the risk of the patient rejecting it. The drawback with O- blood types, is that they can only receive O- blood themselves. It's the most sought after blood in the world and often is in short supply. Some patients with O- blood type even donate their own blood in some cases for their own medical procedures.
Some blood types make the person predisposed to particular diseases or ailments. Heart failure, strokes, cancers etc. Knowing your blood type can set you on the right path to a healthy way of life through an appropriate diet and a good exercise regime.
The reason why I posted this thread, and I've mentioned this before elsewhere, is that O+ blood type is often used in surgery with people that have compromised immune system. Blood type has the ability to give the individual some immunity to many bacterial and viral pathogens.

It helps treat sickle cell disease
B positive is an important blood type for treating people with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia who need regular transfusions.
These conditions affect South Asian and Black communities where B positive blood is more common.
There is currently a very high demand for B positive donations with the subtype Ro.
Approximately 2% of donors have this rare subtype and we need more.
