I don't think I've ever met or even heard of this 'Maxis' fellow but is it at all possible that Maxis was such a horndog that he jumped to a few conclusions and ended up embarrassing himself?
Not trying to make insinuations but I find it difficult to believe anyone could mistake Poppy -in any sort of costume- for a little Japanese girl.

I'm just exploring the possibility that the events unfolded slightly differently than you remember them.

If Maxis had bothered to take 20 seconds and do a search on that name (like I just did) he would have known it was a fictional anime/manga character.
...which brings me back to the idea that Maxis did kinda bring this on himself and that's hilarious.
It almost makes me wish I could have seen it happen in real time.

I wasn't commenting on Poppy's intelligence. No comparison with Seaboobs on that..... Poppy is a bright spark and can be very creative when he chooses to be....
But he has easy buttons that can repeatedly be pushed is all, much like Seaboobs....
