In part that's because I've always been unusually lazy when constructing an internet persona.
Personally I've found it's way easier to just be myself.
Mostly though it's because I never had to go through a lot of the forum-related drama trauma that Bone experienced.
That stuff leaves a mark.

Vitriol is correct. I learned a valuable lesson giving out intimate details to untrustworthy people, some of whom went to great lengths to bring me down later. I had entire forums waiting for my next post with bated breath, and that's hardly an exaggeration. I was a veritable Godzilla with dozens of flamers and trolls trying their damndest to tear off a piece of me. Followed me to other forums, traded chat logs. Even then, Poofer is probably justified in saying I was overrated. I would read my old flames and say "there's a man who is trying too hard to sound cool."

Apart from all that, there's not really much to tell. I live my life and I observe people. I make (most of) a living off of correcting people's English and I don't believe in the Oxford comma.
Mostly, I just got tired of posting scroll bombs that sometimes reached upwards of 50,000 characters (yes, someone counted, though I pray not manually) just to prove that someone was an idiot, when I can do so much more with so much less...

It's history, and I remember some of it with fondness, despite the aggravation at the time. I probably deserved what I got, and in the end, it's nothing compared to real life. Forums are just a pastime. Take it easy, Herm.
It's preferable to remain a ghost and only disclose oneself to people who have already shown themselves to you. If you allow the right one in, you will be rewarded, if you let the wrong one in, you may be ruined.
Spending all of your internet time interacting with folks who label themselves trolls or flamers is extremely puzzling unless you have no other interests but to participate in unending drama and name calling. So many of these flamers boast about their abilities but never leave the safety of the so-called "community." Perhaps the concept of generating something that will be appraised by others who are not participating in these frivolous bouts of false bravado and vituperations is too much for their feeble egos to endure.
The most important skill for these so called "flamers" is being able to fake confidence, so that, despite the fact that they are writing absolute shit, they can convince everyone that it does not stink. It's also ludicrous that some of these fools claim they are beating up others on these forums.
Or proving their worth, whatever that entails. What better way to wow an audience of clowns than to act like an even bigger clown. It's all a bit delusional.
It's similar to the porn industry in that flamers are great at sucking a lot but that it isn't a skill that mainstream cinema is searching for. Hardly any of these trolls or flamers would survive on a popular creative writing website, it's simply not in their skill set.
