Who would have thought an ex cop and an ex con would form a friendship.

We all make mistakes.

For a brief moment there, you had me...the swish is on its way...but noooooo....the rug goes right out from under my feet. No swish for ME!!!

 :t1929:

Sorry I've had little to say lately. Just waiting for the next mass shooting in the land of madness. Won't be long, I'm sure.

I read regularly how people legally allowed to constitutionally carry are knocking down mass shooters right at the onset...

But that requires civic minded peeps who will put innocents behind them and keep firing... (not like pussified modern cops)...

Modern cops are cowards and I don't mind telling them this fact when they do "random" stops which aren't obviously random in nature at all, but fishing expeditions for revenue/fines.

You, the cops are some of the biggest cowards and pussies I've ever met.

I enjoy making you lot rage and backtrack into fear when you're being recorded, on my property illegally after being told to leave repeatedly, and while I've been charged face first within inches of my recording camera because the expectation was from them that I'd falter or flinch, therefore giving them cause to detain me, assault me, or both.... I never back down when I know I'm in the right.

Modern cops are the biggest bullies and pussies under the sun.... they're dogs.... but mostly puppies.... and puppies need to be kept on a short leash until trained, or euthanized....

96% of all cops need to take a dirt nap. I hate them and I hate what they're required to do. Any decent human being would quit a job like that.

So if I encounter these stupid motherfuckers, I'll comply.... but I will unload on these fuckwits at the same time.

I am going to take a wait and see approach to this new forum. As you know Brick, I do not fit in with these flamers. And vice versa, my posts about markets/economy/taxes/industrial policy are not their cup of tea either. Biggie Smiles said I will be able to ignore the flame sections, so I will probably test the waters.

I am glad that your surgery was a success. I hope it continues. My very best wishes to you in the future. With all your granchildren, I am surprised you had five minutes to spare for forums.

Awww...thanks for the love, guys.

Herman is 100% correct...I'm working these new knees and taking photographs along the way. All is well and recovery is exceeding expectations. Happy little puppy all round, really.

Here's a pic from a recent stroll...

Grandparenting is also consuming some time, but I'm not complaining. I have great grandkids!!!

Take care and stay safe...

Did you get a new camera. If you get new shins you might as well get a new camera too. You want the whole set.

There are no "bad" cameras. Unfortunately, "gear addiction" affects a lot of photographers who think THEIR kit is better than everyone else's.

In reality, the camera doesn't take the photograph, the photographer does. Most people now seem happy with the image quality of phone cameras, which these days is excellent, but the phone camera has its limitations. 90% of people who use their phone wouldn't even be aware of those limitations.

I use Olympus because it is a "micro" system. It is much smaller than other cameras, and its lenses are very much more portable and lighter. It's so much easier to carry around, and when you need to walk long distances with your gear, that's a real factor when you are no longer in the full blossom of youth.

What you don't "see" in many of my images is how far away the birds are, or how fast it is flying. Or how secluded and hidden it may be. In those circumstances, phones simply won't work.

Many photographers start out believing that you need the BEST gear to get the BEST photograph. So, they choose their camera brand, and buy the best they can afford, and then start buying lenses (which are the EXPENSIVE bit).

After a while their photography doesn't seem to be as good as expected. So...it's the gear they are using. So they buy more expensive models and lenses....and strangely their images don't seem much better. Then they realise it must be the GEAR!!!

So...they change their camera brand, selling off their current gear at a huge loss and re-investing in a whole new kit. Nikon is out, Canon is in. Because all the GOOD photographs are taken by Canon cameras (not photographers, apparently).

But, sadly...their photographs don't improve much despite $5000 worth of equipment....and the cycle continues.

Then one day the light bulb goes on...an epiphany. It's not the GEAR, stupid!!!

They're all on digital. And if their cameras memories aren't wiped out... the flash drives.... good luck if they have a power source still worth mentioning that could drive a printer unit.... mind you, a printer unit and ink cartridges shielded too...

Again you speak without knowledge.

Perhaps your mathematical skills fail you...but as you are aware of my age, and seem to know so much about photography, you are surely aware that I was a photographer LONG before the digital age arrived. Hence, I have considerable experience in processing, developing and printing images from both film and slide using my own darkroom. How about you, shortpants?

And I still use an Olympus OM2n FILM camera which produces a more subtle effect of colours on film, viz;

From what I've seen of your photographic contributions, your knowledge of photography seems to be mediocre at best.

Again, you demonstrate your inability to ignore threads which relate to matters outside of your expertise simply because they have the word "Bricktop" in their title.

That envy must really chew you up.

Title: Re: Bricktop
Post by: Bricktop on September 27, 2022, 07:52:06 PM
Of course, digital has many advantages over film.

However, film cameras are seeing a resurgence in recent times, mainly for nostagia, but their colour rendition and image characteristics are more appealing over digital images in some cases.

Many images we see today taken by amateurs could not have been taken in film camera days. Digital is much more accessible and user friendly, and digital cameras are effectively computers that record images.

Oddly, the demand for film cameras and film is being driven by a younger demographic. But film is not going to impact on digital photography to any degree.

And I still use an Olympus OM2n FILM camera which produces a more subtle effect of colours on film, viz;

From what I've seen of your photographic contributions, your knowledge of photography seems to be mediocre at best.

Again, you demonstrate your inability to ignore threads which relate to matters outside of your expertise simply because they have the word "Bricktop" in their title.

That envy must really chew you up.

My apologies.

I stand corrected.

Most photographers these days are 70 years old and above, were raised in a dark room, can fabricate their own analogue photography materials from nature if BASF European plants are crippled, and have a sanctimonious buffoon-like know everything attitude which makes them lose their cool and spout rubbish.

Both of them I'd say. You might also consider the corruption of those delightful countries who would use the unrest there to money launder by way of waging a proxy war. I do not exempt members of the Commonwealth or the warmongering fuckpigs in NATO here, they have been jonesing for a return to the Cold War foes ever since the Soviet Union broke up thirty years ago.

I imagine now would be a good time to get while the going is good. If any of you are in major urban centers, consider the country life and what it might afford you in terms of food availability if nothing else.

Ah.

See, I would disagree here, based purely on the idea that if I knew there was a good chance my quality of life was set to take a serious downturn - indeed if it were in the process of doing so - then continuing to invest my efforts in maintaining and promoting it was counter-productive to my long term interests. This in fact was the reason I bailed out of the entertainment industry in 2020 once it became apparent that society was being reengineered along authoritarian lines. I reasoned that smaller communities offered better long term prospects for myself and mine and the sooner I made the choice to establish myself in a smaller and more tightly knit environment, the better my options were.

I could have rode it out, sure. And found my choices limited to "take our experimental injections which might irreversibly damage you" and "fuck you, you're not getting out of Dodge because we say so". Which would have put a serious dent in my ability to assure me of my health AND remain on the world stage, at least as a Canadian citizen.

But you do you... just hope that's not a "bridge out ahead" sign on the highway you're careening down. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it isn't.

Speaking from experience, you'll get that irrespective of where you sling your shingle my friend. At the risk of incurring the subforum owner's ire, a government doesn't actually produce anything (except inflation,  they have the market cornered there), figuring out new ways to get you to pay for that is what they do. You can mitigate against this in some measure by barter and trade, avoiding the use of money and other promissory notes that are centrally managed and controlled by such institutions. If no money is changing hands, it becomes more difficult for any third party to stick their hand out for an unearned cut of such transactions.

Your average taxman will of course attempt to express your efforts in  the currency of the realm should they ever get wind of them and you prove yourself to be operating beyond their sphere of influence. Make the bastards work for it, let them do  the running about. If you aren't using their currency, you aren't leaving a paper trail for them to follow and can sidestep  the worst of their moneygrubbing ways. Easier to do in the country for sure, but speaking as someone who has savoured city and  country life, I can tell you the big smoke offers such opportunities as well.

If by "black economy" you mean anything other than the approved fiscal system, then I know... I used it to great personal advancement. As did pretty much everyone I knew, some more so than others. Why would we not? Provided it was kept on the down-low and the Joe Normies of society kept their noses clean for fear of getting their lives fucked up by the ruling class (many of whom were also balls deep in this so-called "black economy"), things continued to run more or less smoothly.

I very nearly missed out on the best part of the ride too; early 2016 I was gearing up to hop the border into the US and make my way to LA. Circumstances changed my plans somewhat (some posters here know what I'm referring to) and by the end of the year my off-the-books hustle had provided for a comfortable and rewarding existence, working for and with associates of some big names, some of whom you know. Had Covid not reared its ugly head, I might still be cruising along with it today - it was as fun as it was precarious and I have a lot of good memories of it. I might never have made those connections had I buggered off to the US as initially intended, or if I had then it would have taken far longer to achieve. Caskur's efforts to scuttle my move in that direction actually had a positive outcome, haha.

The irony being that no matter how well I did, I am of the opinion it wouldn't serve me greatly going forward. Society is deteriorating at an increasing pace and anyone who thinks they can survive the crash by being a law abiding person in a major population center is only leaving themselves open to becoming a victim of it. Defunded and weaponized police forces aren't going to do anything for them, inflation and other such stealth taxes will rob them blind. This is not the society of the twentieth century, the goals and achievements that secured our parent's generation will be worthless to us in our winter years, literal albatrosses about our necks in fact.

If bartering your skills and goods for others is to be considered "black economy" then so be it. I've been called worse names and never shed a tear over it. I'll support those who support me and the rest can go hang itself I reckon. Loyalty is my currency, the realm's approved system of pretty pieces of paper/polymer is an inferior system of running our affairs that is open to abuse by the very organizations that insist upon it.

No doubt. Canadians as a rule these days are too "nice" and "proper" to really do for themselves.

You will ultimately exit Canada of course. Even if the Klaus Schwabs of this world don't get to have their way with your sovereignity and turn you into a vassal state of the NWO, you get to die eventually just like the rest of us. Likely as a pauper, if your assurances are to be believed.

No you wouldn't, such countries do not exist. I don't know if you had noticed (probably not) but countries themselves are essentially non-sentient landmasses incapable of caring about anything, while those overseeing their regulation are pretty much only in it for the money, the citizen's best interests be damned. Well, unless "best interests" might be freely interpreted as being herded like cattle for the amusement of the ruling class. Sounds rather authoritarian to me, I prefer a measure of autonomy myself.

And speaking of autonomy, tell me, did you ever barter your bodily autonomy for freedom of movement? I understand quite a few Canadians felt compelled to, a number of truckers and their supporters  were faced with the choice of barter or freeze to death after they  were denied access to things like banks. And in the middle of winter too, just imagine!
