Forums have been done for a long time. We all know that. Other than chops, I haven't had a laugh in years on forums. The same lame insults day in and day out.
Almost everybody who isn't an imbecile or watched by the RCMP has left. I stick around because there are still a few people remaining I like, but mostly because I have no winter hobbies.

I actually made admong flip the fuck out just by ignoring him but mocking him to others. That shit sent him right up the living room curtains and made him get himself smacked in the mouth cause he couldn't control himself anymore

Then somebody lit up the barbecue and the rest is history.
My property insurance covered it even though it was slightly illegal... Its not supposed to be that close to the water.
It was all for the best because the legislation changed a bit a year ago and now I can build something I really like without any extra bullshit.

Then news sites started shutting down their forums because they were afraid someone would get mad at someone else and something would happen and the web site would then be sued into oblivion. Or if they did keep their forum you'd need an e-mail verification and the place would be crawling with mods. More and more people started getting banned for stating opinions which were unpopular at the time. Most social media still does it today.
The old forums I knew, Cosmic Outpost, Troll Valhalla, Bad Yahoo, the Cindybin board, and ( hang my head in shame ) The Dana Crew mostly sprung up from Yahoo posters who started their own forums to keep the discussions going. It went well for a while but then fights would break out and people would leave.
Just human nature I guess.
Dammit now I forgot what I was rambling about. Maybe I shouldn't have taken that bong hit.

I use the resale value as a metric only because of its intrinsic link to forum activity. If your forum is a ghost town, very few people are going to want to buy it. I suspect half the reason Erica took over the financing of this place was because she knows first hand that building interest is fucking hard work. So is maintaining it. I don't know of anyone who can do it solo, especially not in the face of people who are actively trying to tear it down. It also does not help that social networks have proliferated wildly over the last two decades, so the idea that some influencer might come along to revive interest in the old dinosaur is, to put it mildly, "bullshit".
The wild old days are a memory... a bit of fun enjoyed for a while by those of us who were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. These days it's more like sitting about a campfire exchanging pleasantries while the occasional wildebeest moos brokenly off in the distance for some hero to throw all the available logs on that it might slob on over to warm its tired bones while it thinks of something else to moan about.
Not so bad really. Having scaled the mountain before, I find it relaxing and theraputic.

Gary... I now spend the majority of my time on Patreon and Youtube doing digital art lessons with Flo and a few others, or writing for the Late Night Poets shows... To hell with scrolling through endless pages of the same Seamajor photos or listening to a Scottish man gargle cum for 30 minutes. I was hoping that a slew of Brawl Hall legends would emerge from a cornfield, but they never appeared... At this point, I've completely lost interest and won't be engaging in any future community field trips.
I'll will say Erica has done good job with the Blue Achoo...it reminds me of Panera Bread in that it's not filled with bums, it's clean, and the customers aren't shitting on the floor.

No, I know. You've seen a few of its members though... over a dozen who are still actively posting around these parts in fact. It was a fairly large site after all in its day, some 22,000 concurrent logins at peak (around 2005 or so). There's not a lot of messageboard sites that can boast that nowadays.

A dozen years ago maybe. I saw the metrics for BH, that site was worth over half a million when Poofer was at the helm, though it was largely off the back of PI peddling and other real life harassment, coupled with the porn and Usenet portals that Wheeliebin (the site owner) had employed. I wouldn't call it BH's all time peak, but it was A peak and it all started going south when Poofer was de-modded for pinning The Treasurer's RL details to the top of the flaming forum. Evil Blood (whose efforts had contributed greatly to BH's rise) was hastily shuffled into the slot vacated by Poofer which arrested the slide at around USD$330,000 for a few months, then he got jack of the arrangement and left and the slide resumed. Its resale value plummeted to under $100 before Wheeliebin pulled the plug on it a couple of years later.
