It's a mixed bag... the whole region experienced various things when we were just getting clips on the nightly news for decades.
It's best to judge each South African on their actions and history.... not what comes out of the mouths.
I've found that a disproportionate number of South Africans I've known or my wife was friends with, are a bit egocentric and can be manipulative. But I'd never say that about them all... I've met a number of really cool decent people.
It's something about the culture they were raised in which imprints biases and the need to succeed, full speed ahead.
There's often a heavy arrogance too.
