Title: Best Vintage Sports Cars for the Money/Value
Post by: JOE on April 07, 2023, 03:43:10 AM
I was thinking at some point getting an older used vintage sports car, say 10 or more years old.

Any recommendations?

Here's some videos I saw on the topic:

Like...I don't wanna spend 100s of thousands of dollars, eh?

I was trying to keep it within a budget

If at all possible a driveable used vintage sports car for $10,000 or less.

I just don't wanna spend too much on a car

If at all possible....$15,000 then?

A convertible if at all possible.

I looked it up and some of the older mustangs are somewhat reasonable.

Here in my town, some listings on Craigslist:

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=mustang#search=1~gallery~0~0

Keep in mind Canadian dollar is only .75 cents to the US dollar.

So a $13,000 car here would cost $10,000 US if you bought it in the States.

So Mustangs don't look bad.

I like the idea of buying a used Alfa Romeo

However, the cost and maintenance of owning them might be another story.

Hard to get parts for I suppose or mechanics around qualified to fix them.

I saw an old Mustang on the road the other day.

It was old, but it was sure powerful and fast.

It easily sped away from a much newer Ford I was driving that day.

A lotta new cars made these days are junk.

If a person's gonna spend $40,000 on a brand new car, why not just buy a decent used sports car for possibly half the price?

Get twice as much value and power for 1/2 (HALF) the price.

I mean, that's like an inverse relationship.

More for less.

Here's a listing where I live for an Alfa Romeo, Lokmar:

....What do you think? What are the shortcomings of them?

Sheesh! $20K wont even buy a fukin decent MG midget these days. Maybe you could buy a busted ass old mustang with a V6. You'd be just as well off to buy an AMC Gremlin or a fukin Pinto.

Well then, how about these...Lokmar?

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/bnc/ctd/d/new-westminster-southwest-1991-ford/7607612973.html

...what could go wrong with these cars?

what are some of the danger signs I should ask or look for?

Keep in mind as I said before, I wouldn't be using this kind of car as a primary vehicle, just as a secondary weekend recreational car to take a spin around town once in a while.

I wouldn't be nor have any intention of using it all the time, since 'Classic' or 'Collector' plates have a limitation on use or number of days/times when they can be driven.

that's why the insurance rates are so low on those cars.

High revving, Natural aspirated  and reliable engine,  manual transmission and RWD? A dying breed to be sure.

Actually, I'd like ta get a vintage European sportscar Lokmar!

However, I bet the repair and maintenance bills on those 'tings must cost more than the vehicle itself. I suppose that's why the sticker price on 'em can be cheap.

But they're probably not so cheap to own, eh?

So a person would probably have to be a mechanic to own one of them.

The mustangs don't look cheap to maintain either, but of the 2 they must be infinitely more affordable & there are more service options too.

If a vintage mustang was relatively stable and easy to maintain I'd probably choose it over an import.

Nah.

I've always thought that the BMW was a rather bland suburban car.

As far as styling and excitement go, I actually think a number ofvintage  American cars made around the same time were a lot more glamorous such as the Mustang and Corvettes.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Can you show me what I've missed...Lokmar?

Starry and googly eyed perhaps. But let's face it, with all the traffic going one way and competent paramedics on close hand if anything goes wrong... not that much of a man...

Take him on a rally, especially in less than ideal conditions. Something with a lot of blind corners and hills in it, unsurfaced roads littered with the odd gaggle of spectators. And pack a few industrial strength air fresheners in case he shits himself.

2 years ago, a guy went off track and was ejected. His heart stopped twice on the medivac flight but they eventually saved him. Generally its safe, but shit happens.
